What's it like living in the suburbs?

When I visit my aunt it's always quiet like somethings not right quiet, especially at night

There's also a bunch of trees and I could see the stars in the sky clear as daylight

I dont live in suburbs. but i have cousins that do. when im out there its boring. its dead. streets are dead. everywhere around is closed early besides 7/11. Gas stations close early. Everything. Cops are posted up in random spots ready to pull young kids over or black people over.

Cops will harass the f outta u there because there is no real crime that happens over there. So they try to get something going on in their lives of boredom.

Its dark @ night time. You cant see **** in some areas. You will see weird animals such as wolves and coyotes over here in MA.

It sucks. I could never do it.

Da culdesac >>>

Dead center of mine.

My kids can play in the street in peace, my neighbors have anything I would ever need to borrow. There's 1 lonely **** on my street that's good to look at. My dog has a social life. I haven't heard a gunshot outside of New Years Eve. The only smoker I've seen around is my wife's uncle and my uncle. Yard of the month ftw. I'm about 20 mins outside the city and at times I'd like to be a little closer, but my house in the city would triple in price.

The burbs out here in the bay > anywhere

You can go 35-40 mins and you in the city. I live in the East bay which is in the middle of everything. I'm talking about SF, Berkeley and Oakland are just up nort. Then you have Fremont, and SJ in the south. San Mateo is just across the bridge and Pleasanton the other way. All are in 30miles radius. :pimp:

I used to live in the Bay.

Now live in Cerritos. 30-40 minutes to the beaches (depends on which ones), 30 minutes to DTLA, 30 minutes to the heart of OC.

The most similar Bay Area cities are probably Palo Alto and Cupertino. But a much more central location

It is safe, clean, quiet, and stable. People aren't always leaving and you can grow with friends. There is a sense of security there that isn't as prevalent in city life. But then it's much easier to get lost in your own world and know too much. The great thing is that I didn't grow up in the boonies but was a stones throw away from a major metroploitan artiface - DC. Having the metro made living that burb life much easier.

When I was growing up in PG County, there wasn't nearly as much crime and debauchery as now. When city folk move into the burbs.

Prince George's County, Maryland = Greatest 'Burbs of all time.
Million dollar house full of ratchet people.
Every drug at the tip of your finger.
No matter where you at you're like ~20mins outside of DC at the farthest.
Desperate housewives are very real.
Can't explain it. It's like the perfect suburbs with a crazy twist to it.
Probably because it's like 70% Black 10% Latino 20% White/Asian/Arab.
QFT. Largo MD = best of both worlds.

Living in both types of areas.... I do prefer the country style lifestyle. I grew up on a lake from age 11 up. Coming from the city it was a different experience but well worth it. Polite neighbors, girl next door yambs, I love fishing/hunting, hitting the trails with dirtbikes. I think u should vaca somewhere nice and experience it for yourself.

I think there's a big difference living in the country/rural area than the suburbs. Personally, i'd pick the country over the suburbs.

city>country>>>>>>>burbs

well yeah if we're counting country then city>country>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>burbs. the country i can buck my gun in my back yard, take the 4 wheelers out and go out on the lake. all the burbs are is lacking all the plus's the city has. i love going out to my homies families farms and stuff and going ham. the country is fun as hell. i'd still rather live in the city though and drive an hour when i want to be a cowboy.

True, where my grandpa stayed was rural'ish.... but mainly suburbs when new houses all around started going up and less forest life. Man, it was so bad you could see Deer chilling at Burger King on main streets

I lived in a suburb just like that! All my friends had cows in their back yards. When I'd go for jogs i'd see so many deers. I moved into the town right when they were making the transition from country to burb :smh:

Grew up in Carol City. Same stuff that went down in the city, went down in the burbs. In Dade County the gullyness doesn't stop on 79th street, but that's city limits.

Same thing in Chicago. Harvey, Markham, Blue Island, Dolton, Calumet City, Maywood, Forest Park, etc. are just as grimey as the Chi.

the thing is i grew up in a low class city ( don't want to say ghetto), parents were doing well and now live in a suburb got a 2nd house in the mountains, they reached their american dream but I want city life, while my friends born n raised in suburbs would like to stay there, maybe not same city just switch suburb towns

i visit relatives in the burbs from time to time and it ******g sucks. I can't take more than a few days at a time.

The fact that I have to drive (at highways speeds no less) for at least 30 min to get anywhere close to civilization is infuriating.

I could rattle off a list pages long about the drawbacks of NYC but I could never live in the burbs.  There's literally nothing to do.

Yeah I hear you. Sometimes to get away from the city I plan trips for these reasons, but after a week it gets dull quick. Makes things feel like a checklist. I'm not accustomed to hearing crickets chirping at night. I fall asleep to traffic and loud people. Having everything around me within walking distance is highly appreciated, it would be very difficult letting this perk go.

Yup! How'd u know? You too?

Cough up a lung, where I'm from, Bay Farm son. Everything is nice!

I now live 10 mins away in the Fruitvale district of East Oakland. It is incomprehensible how these two locations are so close, yet so different in terms of ethnicity, social class, and criminal activity.

This.

There are a lot of suburbs that are still pretty much city living ( i.e. Camden, NJ is a suburb of Philly; Mt. Vernon is a suburb of NYC ).
