"Remember The Sneakerheads"

I remember the days when I would read the same eastbay catalogs over and over on the toilet everyday and just look at the shoes I want.

how about the kids who use to get the sneakers because of the player (childhood idol)? Not just because it was the cool thing to wear

penny and griffey nike commercials

dee brown reebok pumps (in first grade i would pump up my sneakers thinking i would be a better basketball player  )

getting a pair of space jams at footlocker three days after release date in 2000...no lines, no wait...just walk in

This! I'm grown and still a fan of them and still cop if I feel like it. The biggest change is that athletic shoes are looked at from a fashion standpoint and not sport/function. Although I don't do it now, I used to rock my kicks right out the store. Ane one more, I remember when you were corny if you had a new pair of the Jordan's from two years ago. You got clowned for that before.

Nothing last forever....once it hits the mainstream and commercialization takes over, it's a wrap.

All you have left is memories and nostalgia.....It won't ever be the same, some were in it for the love....others for the money.

I was fortunate to grow up in the 90's and watch Mike play and experience the "golden era." It's pathetic these days.

Bingo

Back then when the OGs were known simply as "Air Jordan" or the "new air jordans" when they first released and last years were called "last years air jordan" or the "old air jordans". No nicknames or numbers or roman numerals attached to it
I am not sure where you are from, but when I was growing up we would refer to them by the year. It wasn't until I became a member here back in 2000 that I first heard them referred to by roman numerals.

 at the Olive 9 comments. The way people talk about them now you would swear that shoe was always popular.

why are people so mad though? I mean why can't people just buy kicks because they look good or if they are popular?

Of course they can, it just gets annoying when dudes come through trying to front and hype things up. Its all good though, not that big a deal

If you like em, you like em, cool. Just not my cup of tea. I saw more of the black and red, black/white, and carolina 9's when they came out. Those were the more popular colors around here. Not too many were on those olives.

only shoe i bought from the eastbay catalog was the questions. my swag was on hunna thousand trillion but it didnt last since i wore it to p.e.

One of the best feelings was moms checking me out of school on release day and me showing back up around lunch with the "new J's". The nostalgia is whats missing with the younger cats, there is no emotional connection with the shoes. Some of those old jordan commercials still make me smile. (XII's commercial damn near brought a tear to my eye)

Because you can't just buy shoes because the look good(I'm touching "because they're popular, thats soooo sheepish to me), no you gotta twitter RSVP, wait in line, get a hook up. Back in the gap, getting a connect/hook up meant you were paying a discounted price. Nowadays you need a connect just for the opportunity to pay retail.

I always hope the day will come where I can randomly walk into a mall and see a pair of 11s just sitting on the shelves.

I hate what it's become today, but I find peace in the fact that this is just a trend to most. The day'll come when it passes, and buying shoes won't be such an arduous task.

The ill part to me is always that a lot of these kids buying up the shoes have never seen MJ play. And with all the outlets for them to view him in his greatness (ie YouTube, ESPN classics, etc), they don't give the guy a passing thought beyond his sneakers.

That feeling of when you put on a new pari of kicks and actually believed they could make you run faster, jump higher and improve your game.

These new kids don't know nothing about that. :smh:

I used to always rock my kicks out of the store.... Throw the old ones in the box and be out. I'm doing it when I pick up my XI's this year.

Co-sign on all of this.

Man... This right here.

You couldn't tell me I wasn't going to make it to the NBA when I first laced up the original black/red 13s.

Boy Scout Jordans, LOL. They used to used them as casual shoes here, lol.

I remember walking by the French 7's when they came out multiple times at the mall for several weeks ( salem,  NH ) and then finnaly decided to cop em .

i completly forgot i bought them and sat in my closet until summer of 2010 . When i found them buried in the back of my closet , next to my empty video game boxes i jumped up with excitement lol DS with the original box , retro card and reciept !

How times have changed . i used to by them just to match them with a shirt or something , now there more of a " statement " smh .

I remember when I copped my pair, I fell asleep on the train and when my train stop came, I forgot the kicks on the train :x

My grandma felt sorry for me and bought me the black/red 7's later that day :pimp:

I still remember when my pops copped me the white/navy XIIIs (first pair of J's)... word to the guys stating the good ol' eastbay days.

Nah son, I have a hard time giving away any shoes even if they beat like hell.

I got kinda emo when my mom threw away some old vans I had...still had plenty of life man. :frown:

you know you're an og when you remember jcpenney's and nordstrom used to carry jordans.

When you hated the xi's when they 1st came out. (or maybe that was just me)

Back when jordans were just known as the old jordans or new jordans. no number association.

I think everything else was covered.
