http://obamaphone.net/
Ooooops
It looks like that's what the govt. calls them.

I can make a random website that called PigLovePhone.net and then claim its you giving away phones?

Some idiot dubbed it Obamaphone and people ran with it.

Anyways it looks like that's what YOU call them. If the GOVernment is going to call anything anything they will add a .GOV to it. Here let me help you http://www.lifeline.gov/

So the program was started by Bush but its being misnomered "Obama Phone"....makes sense.

:smh:

works both way, obama championing for for tax cuts for da 98% of americans...aka da bush tax cuts

the bush tax cuts were for 100% of Americans....not the same

and lol @ piglove not being able to distinguish between legitimate websites and disinformation. Too Ironic

You guys amuse me. You're jealous of poor people living in Section 8 housing using outdated flip phones with 250 minutes a month? Are you serious?
Do you guys know any actual poor people? Like in real life? Clearly you don't by these comments you make. I would think people on government assistance are living the good life with how you guys talk.
Explain to me how one just "chooses not to work" and receives all this government assistance. Most of these people are EMPLOYED and do not make enough to make ends meet.
"These leeches need jobs." How are they supposed to get jobs without a phone?! How can employers contact them?! It's easy to look down on those that are less fortunate when mommy and daddy provided you with everything you needed to succeed, but some weren't born with that luxury.
We look down at those under privileged ones that seek out assistance ("entitlements") to survive on the day to day, but champion large corporations that receive billions in subsidies and cuts in order to pay for large bonuses to already ridiculously wealthy executives. And it's incredible how good the amazingly wealthy are adept at getting the amazingly UN wealthy to go along with laws and policies that directly contribute to making those amazingly wealthy even MORE amazingly wealthy. Sickening.

You have to realize that 90% of NT comes from an incredibly privileged background.

"I'm not privileged, I was only allowed a new pair of sneakers every couple of months when I was growing up in the 90s!"

The scope of perspective here is very limited. Dudes talk down on the poor because they don't have the empathy or perspective to try to understand how things might be different for someone of a less privileged background. Obviously not everybody from a decent background carries this attitude but a large portion of NT does.

everything Obama do or is apart of that people don't like gets dubbed w/ his name ....kinda corny...especially since bush started it

My grandmother has one of these phones. As she started working at the age of 14, I can assure you that she has never been a lazy so and so, who lives off the hard work of others. In her late 50's she was diagnosed with Lupus and had to go on disability. Despite what some of you think, she hasn't been living it up on easy street.

Keep thinking that the majority of poor people are poor, because they're lazy. See if it keeps you warm when your job downsizes or you get into a horrible accident, that takes all of your savings.

Schmucks.

I like how piglet always gets ghost every time his BS *** threads get debunked.

What no rebuttal big dog?

Pigman stay away from infowars brosky.

Wait, so the information in the article has been proven to be false and "debunked" because you guys can't agree on what the name of the program being talked about is?

Only on NT.

There are people in the thread who's family members have these phones and I'm a liar, ok.

Bush wasn't giving out cell phones, hence the term Obamaphone. :smh:

Please don't use me as example to solidify your statements. Feel free to visit the real site that I've linked below. Hopefully you will see that it was started in 1985 for landlines and cell phones were added in 2005. In case your confused, Obama was not the president in either of those years.

Please stop you pick and choose what you want to respond to and refuse to accept the fact that you argument is invalid.( my honest opinion is that you like to debate because you have no friends to talk to)

12. The Lifeline program was implemented in 1985 in the wake of the 1984 divestiture of
AT&T. Its initial purpose was to ensure that any increase in local rates that occurred following major
changes in the marketplace would not put local phone service out of reach for low-income households and
result in service disconnections.
19
At the time, the Commission was concerned that the implementation of
subscriber line charge (SLC) would force low-income consumers to drop voice service, which, the
Commission found, had “become crucial to full participation in our society and economy[,] which are
increasingly dependent upon the rapid exchange of information.”
20
The program made carriers whole

13. In 1996, Congress codified the Commission’s and the states’ commitment to advancing
the availability of telecommunications services to all Americans, and established principles upon which
“the Commission shall base policies for the preservation and advancement of universal service.”
23
Among other things, Congress articulated national goals that services should be available at “affordable”
rates and that “consumers in all regions of the nation, including low-income consumers, . . . should have
access to telecommunications and information services.”
24
Based on recommendations of the Joint
Board, the Commission revised and expanded the Lifeline program after passage of the
Telecommunications Act of 1996 (1996 Act).
25
After implementation of the 1996 Act, all states
participated in the program and the level of federal Lifeline/Link Up support steadily increased.
26

Now this was 85 and 96 cell phones were expensive and were not needed because there were also payphones in most cities.

Fast forward to now everyone has a cell phone a payphone is a landmark at this point. An old cell phone that has been over produced would cost money to destroy so why not pass them on to people who can use them?
