Just like he didn't destroy Buu because he wanted to let Goten and Trunks have a go and take over, thereby placing the entire planet in danger (Whereupon that plan failed miraculously and leading to that terrible saga dragging on forever) 
I have no beef with his fighting ability, but he's far from perfect.

Actually yamcha took that L because he actually wanted Bulma. Vegeta just put a baby in her and bounced and had Yamcha in his feels. He got draked

A very true statement. If it weren't for Chi Chi Goku would eventually smashed on Bulma. A majorly missed plot detail is how Bulma remarks on how Goku became a powerful, imposing man. It was clear on several occasions how she wanted the D.

Goku and Bulma's story is the best part about the whole dragon ball mythos. All this came about because of those two meeting
I also remember bulma making a comment in dragon ball when goku comes to the tournament to fight piccolo and no one had saw him in years and didn't recognize him because he was taller.

Times have changed. Somehow J Stars Victory Vs is making its way over here, the One Piece Pirate Warriors titles always come to NA, the Naruto movie had a limited release with subtitles in February, and this new DBZ movie is hitting theaters in the summer.
Localization is much more common now

The difference:
Vegeta let Cell become his final form because he somehow thought he would still be stronger.
Goku gave Cell a Senzu bean because he KNEW that Gohan was still stronger than all of them.
So, Goku was right. Vegeta was wrong.

Goku also KNEW that Trunks and Goten could stop Majin Buu, and look how that turned out ******* train wreck of mistakes time and again in that saga on the parts of multiple characters (Goku, Gotenks, Gohan)
