There's no connection between GT and Super. GT is connected to Z though, since it directly follows from the events of that series. GT and Super are basically just two alternate storylines that take place after the destruction of Kid Buu.

Not sure if there were issues earlier, but it seems to be good now.
They don't bother to write any life into Videl
She actually had a bit of personality when she was first introduced and now she's just there, supporting Gohan in all his lame glory.
Not much to say beyond that other than the animation being rough, which makes me hopeful that they're putting that extra time and effort into getting as much of the tournament on point as they can right now while these fillers are running.
