Ash is a child's character in a child's TV show. If you're looking for character development read the Pokemon manga. The anime is nothing more than a tool used to push games.

Every other kid's cartoon / anime the protagonists always win. This "losing is okay as long as you have your pokefriends" is meh lol. He was even supposed to win the last league with Greninja and they still made him lose

I think the series would benefit from someone dying and actually staying dead. The problem is no matter how strong the villain is, we all know that the dbz fighters can be brought back to life if necessary. Naruto benefited from losing key characters (Ex: Jiraiya) and that is something we have yet to experience in DBZ. Does anybody agree?
