For the Wine and Champagne Connnoisseurs

SDS45 hit the nail on the head, you do not get your money's worth with the lower end of the big name champagne houses. If you are spending under $100, I would look to sparkling white wines from Europe or Nothern California. Good prosecco or cava is better than bad champagne any day.

with da mad dog though...you gotta get the grape
cause it has a higher proof than da other flavors & it tastes stronger too

with mad dog you will either end up fighting, puking or both

Negged. That stuff is so disgusting :x

Not necessarily true. A lot of great Champagne exists in the $40-$60 range if you know where to look. Prosecco and Cava lack the complexity, depth, and aging potential found in Champagne, not to mention the autolytic characteristics that Champagne is known for. They are great if you want to spend $10-$20, but they will never be a substitue for a great bottle of Champagne. Even though I enjoy Cava (which is produced in the traditional champenoise method, unlike most Prosecco) in the sub $20 category I would prefer a non-sparkling white from Alsace, Rhone, or Germany over either a Prosecco or Cava.

bringing out the 1996 Dom tonight, if i like ill buy another bottle since i got it for half price

Thanks for the info, interesting.
Any reason your mom wasn't impressed? Was it dull? Not profound?

The actual tour and Champagne House in Riems was very "touristy" she said and wasn't an authentic portrayal. It was a modern building/factory that they made look like a rustic/historic house that had been producing champagne for ages. It wasn't terrible, but it was.......shall we say "over commercialized."

Just picked up my sister from the Airport earlier and will post whatever bottle(s) she brought back.

Tried this along with the 2000 a few months back and they are still way too young, but hopefully it shows well for you. Let us know how it goes.

About how many bottles of wine do you keep stored and how go you store them?

Makes sense, probably done on purpose. I see.

It was too young, you were right. I have multiple bottles, just curious since I've heard by some that it's ready, I'll try another bottle next year :smh: .

Any good recommendations for a bottle of Rose? No price range, was thinking Perrier Jouet Blason de France Rose . It is for New Years, so I'm not going to savor, just pop and drink from the bottle

Not really into Champagne cause it's disgusting to me but tried this on Xmas Eve and loved it! It's a dessert wine but I drank it while wrapping my son's gifts at his mother's house. Not too sweet but not bitter at all. Will definitely be picking up a bottle tomorrow...

I have a few hundred bottles stored in a temperature and humidity controlled cellar.

If price is no issue, personally I would pick up either the 2004 (since I already tried the 2002) Bollinger Grand Annee Rose, 2000 Dom P Rose, or MV Krug Rose.

A cheaper option for a big Pinot dominated Rose would be the NV Billiot Rose. This comes from the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay, the same village where Krug owns an enclosed parcel of land and charges around $3,000 for their Blanc de Noirs bottling.

The first wine I ever tasted was a cabernet sauvignon that was $3 a bottle and I absolutely hated it. I think I'm turned off from wine forever :frown:
I'm not sure if it was that variety or because it was $3. Can you guys list some good, common inexpensive varieties?

start off with dessert wines and work your way down to dryer stuff.

8) A few hundred bottles, that is impressive. Do you have a picture of what your cellar looks like? I need an idea for what to plan for my future home.

I'm leaning towards Krug Rose and Cristal Rose. Dom Perignon Rose I have never had, might try.

Don't really do much wine and only drink champagne on new year ( any recommendation on a non dry starter wine would be appreciated)

Just got my New Years package in the mail
