Flopping in pick-up games.....WHY?

I think anyone who's played ball for awhile knows when a rule is just being abused in a pickup game.

Calling 3 seconds is just absurd in a pickup game. There are times when charging and moving screens need to be called though, but it has to be OBVIOUS and over the top. If im just standing there and you come at me full steam with your head down, its going the other way. If I go up for a shot and someone trys to slide over and take the charge? *****.

On a screen ill give you a step either way but any more than that and youre getting a shoulder to the gut or chin.

If I had to choose though, id rather play a game thats overly physical than overly soft.

ive had someone do that in a pickup game, i literally stone faced dude for a minute. most embarrassing thing ive seen on the court.

When I play pick up I don't call fouls. Just not my thing. Some times my boys get mad but I just look at it as a punk move. And it helps me become a stronger finisher.

But one time I saw dude pump fake, catch my teammate in the air and then he jumped into him and said "check".

Like this dude really jumped in to create the contact and called a foul. He didnt even put the shot up. Just jumped into him and "check".

Got this a lot too :rolleyes :smh:

I hate this, the fact that there's no FT's shouldn't dictate how you guard someone. It isn't really basketball anymore when someone tries to go up after a board and they get borderline mauled.

Kudos to you though for recognizing and embracing an un-ethical loophole in a social activity that has no real consequences. *Thumbs up*

I think you projected onto this statement or misinterpreted what I wrote. I don't need to hack or molest someone on defense like I am Ruben Patterson. I know how to move laterally and stay in front of an offensive player, but I am one of the few who also take pride in my defense. I like the challenge of stopping the best offensive player on the court. I know fouls are a part of the game as well. So if I am defending a 3 on 1 fast break and covering all my bases and happen to go for a steal/block and there is obvious contact which results in the offensive player losing the ball out of bounds. I give them ball up top, because I don't need charity calls and I own up to my fouls. You can play hard without playing dirty. If a man goes down hard, I am one of the first to help him up or see if he is okay. Most dudes these days are "too cool" to play both ends of the floor and the games turn into a Gilbert Arenas practice session of cherry picking and deep chucking. I don't appreciate folks implying or insinuating things about my character over the WWW.

I play through the contact and fouls on the offensive end because it isn't the NBA and learning to play through the contact down low is a must. I enjoy the challenge. You'll gain more respect though when you are getting hacked and you keep working to get the rebounds and STILL finish the bucket.

I've played with a few NTers on here while in college and in a work league. Basketball is a great yet simple game, damn shame a lot of people don't get satisfaction of playing it in its most purest form.

Moving screens when it's game point or about to be game point and a dude blatantly OD's on a moving pick is going to be called a lot of the time. That's not "playing tough"...that's just not part of the game of basketball. And for the dude talking about some guy that plays D2 basketball and plays at the gym with you guys and makes some of these calls.....yeah, that's because he plays organized basketball not fake tough guy weekend warrior pickup games. Dude isn't trying to go out there and get hurt by some bums and not be able to play in games that really matter. Most the time when a moving pick is called the offensive team gets to keep the ball, the point just doesn't count. It's not that complicated...just score the ball again while playing within some basic rules.

i dislike that hacking dude that gets mad at you when you don't call foul on him.

you like to tackle people on fast breaks? i'll just run you over and keep playing

Yall dont call moving screens? Foh.
Pick up games are far from nba regulated games but they have to be somewhat civilized. ****** forget its basketball not football driving in like they're Adrian Peterson and as for moving picks son is following me around with a screen through the entire three point line like he's holding an umbrella for me.
We call that **** out , don't eem hesitate.
Just cause its street ball doesn't mean it doesn't have to follow some of the nba rules.
Let me rephrase it..if youre blatantly following me around screening it gets called. If you move on accident cause you didn't know any better ill let it slide.
Very rarely do ppl do moving picks though . 99 % of the time im playing with my friends and we get ultra competitive.

Agree with everything in this post.

It tends to get ugly when guys play pick-up ball like it's football because they think there's some rule that they can't ever be called for a foul because it's "pick-up ball."

Fights always start because the guys with no skill want to hit, grab, hold, etc. to even the game up. Then those same guys want to call people a *****, female dog, etc. when they get called for an obvious foul.

Not to generalize but I've noticed that people from New York or the DMV area like to argue and fight over calls the most.  Anybody else notice that?  I hate playing with dudes like that.  It makes the game last too long.

its the worse when u get into an argument with someone about traveling and they just keep showing u what they did and try to say the took 2 steps.

worst things ive seen are a kid bringing a clipboard for plays for him and his boys and one guy called a shot clock violation

while no you shouldnt call moving screens, i tell the dude to stop that BS tho :rolleyes set a proper screen and play...
