Hope everyone is holding it down, I wanted to reach out for some feedback on music production.

I just started with Ableton for the last 3 months and I've enjoyed the process. I also have a novation Launchkey mini for chords and melodies. I want to eventually get to a point where I'm sampling for production and wanted to invest in either a Maschine Mikro Mk3 or an Akai Studio Black (i'll invest in the more expensive gear later in life).

My question is, are these really necessary? Am I making an impulse buy? Will my workflow improve drastically if I purchased one of these products? And can I use these with the Ableton Daw? Or should I just make the most out of the software without buying gear?
 
Its really going to come down to what your comfortable with. You just gotta find your workflow. I always hear good things about Abelton. And for the most part, I believe its compatible with most hardware/midi controllers. Now back to workflow. Some cats just need a laptop and FL Studio (they use nothing else) and they making bangers for every genre. But, if your a keyboardist, then point/clicking notes may be too cumbersome. So a keyboardist will benefit more from having a hardware keyboard. Or you may be a drummer. Then having hardware with pads may be beneficial. Or you may be a drummer and a keyboardist. Now having hardware with both keyboard/drumpads may suit you.

I use Reason 3 lol. I have an AKAI mpd24 and a cheap Casio midi keyboard. Then, I bought an Alesis Vi25 about 8-9 months ago because its more portable + its got both keys/pads.
 
That helps a great deal! I have some background in drumming. I used to play them in HS and always wanted something that would emulate it, so a drum machine is always interesting to me. Thank you very much for all your help. :pimp::nthat:

Any producers in here want to give me feedback on a song i made last night? I have garage band and no mixing background. Can i share through email or something ?

This is another beat tape i've produced. Tons of sampling and a bunch of my own production. While just about all of these are dummy fire, tracks 4,6,7,8,9 are my favorites. GIVE IT A LISTEN!!!!!!!

We had mixtapes featuring songs from all the NT rappers and producers and several collaborations.

There was a lot of fire on those and an NT south by southwest showcase came out of it. A couple of the people went on to internet and music fame. the real Florida man or whatever his name on Twitter is (guy with the Simpsons Fred McGriff avatar) was the original organizer of it all.
