Official Luther Thread

Nomad, Stringer was a snake tho. Unless you cool with those traits and characterize that at "real" iono potna.
Not to derail the thread, after this post lets take this to many of the "Wire" threads. His behavior was subjective, according to who's point-of-view you see it from.

Stringer never killed anyone that didn't deserve to die, many likable characters were more snake that Stringer. Stringer kept the bloodshed to a minimum and money was his concern. Avon approved of the D'Angelo hit after it was disclosed to him, D'Angelo's own mother approved of Stringer smashing Donette, and when I was younger I used to think that Wallace didn't deserve to die, truth is he HAD to die. Wallace knew the rules and it was a hard pill to swallow to see a child killed, but Omar lost a boyfriend because of Wallace's drop. Stringer's business mgmt fundamentals made MORE money that Avon's brand of distribution, and there was less killing. In season 3 it's  evident Stringer kept the Barksdale ship afloat for years. You cannot blame him for wanting to put his hardheaded friend behind bars for a few more years while he generated enough money to leave the game alone for good. This is what McNulty was trying to explain to Avon by showing him Stringer dime'd him out.

Stringer was no snake, just very pragmatic.

Won't dereail. You have your POV, I have mine. Carry on.

Thanks for this thread. Keep it going till season 3. This show is great. As for Stringer, they made him seem weak because they didn't want to portray wisdom as strong. He didn't want to stay in the game as much as my boy Lester Freeman was trying to do things right. He ended up being corrupted by Mcnulty. String had heart to go to school and connect in the right investment circles. Even still he was shady.

No derail just someone explain to me how Stringer is a snake? In retrospect.

Stringer was smart no doubt, but he was always a shady dude. We know he was the brains and Avon was a goon, but String was just straight up shady. Nomad, for the same reasons you say he was pragmatic, I say he was shady in his movements. His moves were calculated but still blurred the lines with loyalty at times. I'm done on this and leave it at that.

Shady or not. Just goes to show how realistic this show was. It's all very believable and fascinating.

Oh, I wasn't disputing the authenticity of the character, just pointing out he was a snake. People are definitely like him

I wasn't a fan of stringer. He had some redeeming qualities like the thirst for knowledge and keeping killings down. But I still thought he was shady. Everything he did was "understandable". He was a great contrast to Avon and his thug tendencies. Avon wasn't shady but he damn sure wasn't a saint

man, what a show

I heard Luther is excellent I still need to check it out

What drug dealer isn't shady?

Prop Joe, Marlo, Avon, Stringer...it's the nature of the game

Add the Greek to that list. Every man has a code, and Stringer's still didn't fit in with the rest.

Now back to Nomad's LUTHER thread. *Drops mic and leaves*

Marlo wasn't shady he was a borderline sociopath. He was a robot. only time I remember him killing someone for no reason was the security guard.

Avon wasn't shady either. Just a normal hoodlum.

Prop joe was shady lol. So was cheese.

Do you remember the whole Prop Joe/The Greek/Marlo ordeal, and how Marlo got Cheese to screw over his uncle?

Now name ONE person Stringer killed that didn't deserve to die.

Name ONE person Stringer tried to cut out the pie that didn't force his hand.

Stringer wasnt a snake, AGAIN he was pragmatic and assumed everyone knew the rules to the game.

Avon was merciless, Weebay was merciless, Prop Joe, Stinkum and even Omar...Stringer played chess, treat players like pieces and NEVER hurt anyone unless they forced his hand.

Again no one can name a snake move Stringer made...Avon came home to quiet streets and a penthouse suite, a millonaire and CEO of B&B properties.

How you gonna jack your own thread?

...

Idris is a goddamn beast in this.

ive been trying to put people on to this show, one of the best i have seen in years. uk tv shows keep on winning. between this, love/hate, identity, the black mirror and a few others they are def giving us tv a run for its money.

I loved Black Mirror, especially the 3rd part.
Heard they're doing a second series of it.

Never heard of Love/Hate or Identity, though.
