In all honesty, it is a punk move.  But he's only 22 years old, so he still has a lot to learn.  I understand him wanting a big payday, but like every other fighter that has reached the pinnacle, he has to earn it.  If Austin Trout outboxes Canelo and beats him, what sense does it make to put him in there with Mayweather 4 months later?

Exactly. A 22 year old kid with nowhere to go but up with all of Mexico riding behind him. He'll put up numbers regardless and put up even more as he gets older. Right now, what has he done to have earned that fight?

Plus, PBF isn't a dummy. Even if Canelo does manage to secure a fight win or lose, I'm sure he'll weasel in a clause that can have him get out of the deal.

IDK, Canelo and his team are been smart IMO. Floyd is a big name and boxing fans will buy this PPV but Floyd VS The Ghost really sell to the Casual fans that help get you over a million buys and to EVER boxing fan? canelo knows they will use his name as some floyd may fight down the line and is the future of boxing and mexicos new star. so why shouldnt canelo ask for PPV money out of it or a contract that says he will fight floyd in sept win, lose or draw?

Canelo did bring Showtime its best boxing rating in years with his last fight. and people where hyped to see him on last years may card when he fought mosley

ESPN's David Faitelson interviewed Canelo

"Saul "El Canelo" Alvarez desde la ciudad de Mexico:"Si Mayweather no firma para pelear conmigo, no peleo contra Austin Trout". "

"If Mayweather doesn't sign, I don't fight Trout"

I can see that side Mike but I don't agree with it. Floyd alone will get that fight a million buys. It's different than his HBO fights, they'll promo the hell out of this during the tourney and that'll get them more casual fans. They'll do the backstory on Ghost and his wife and get more fans. You're right saying Canelo will get them more buys than those factors combined but IMO that doesn't give him "the right" to demand a fight with Floyd win, lose or draw. He hasn't earned that. I feel he's trying to cash his chips too early. If he's as good as he thinks, he'll make back what he thinks he'll lose by not making the Floyd fight in no time. Especially if he ever fights JCC Jr.

Maybe it's just me. Or the fact I don't think his resume warrants consideration from Floyd (outside of his drawing power of course).

Maybe it's just me but Canelo could get a taste of his own jinx with this.  Canelo just needs to sign for Trout and take it one fight at a time.  I would hate for it to turn out like Ortiz' situation when he was going to square off with Canelo after he was suppose to walk through Lopez.

Good move by TeamCanelo but messed up the Cinco de Mayo event smh. A lot of fights still up in the air Peterson vs Matthysse, Kell Brook vs Alexander. I wonder how GBP going to fix the card for May4. Prob put Broner vs Bum fighter, Ishe Smith vs Bum fighter. All fighters on that card are champions if so i'll will stream.

chavez tested positive for the sticky icky?

I hate that dude, but everyone can agree that fine is OD. I agree with Bob Arum (shudders) that this is like extortion.

He got suspended once for it already. How does the commission look letting giving him another slap on the wrist? They had to bring the hammer down on him a bit. And it's not like it'll affect him that much. I doubt he would be fighting in between a rematch with Sergio this fall. It's retroactive to the first fight so he's not going to miss that much time.

Just to clarify I have no problem with the length of the suspension. The dollar amount is od. Nevada pretty much just said give us 10% of your last purse or you will never fight here again.

My reaction at 2:16
