Do you ever think which one came first the Air Jordan I or the Nike Dunk? I was reading the lastest issue of sneaker freaker mag and there is an article aboutthe new vintage bttys dunks that are coming out. In the article the interviewee Jesse Leyva states that the Air Jordan I came first and that how the dunks cameabout was that they needed some thing like it but in different colors that matched the college's school colors. if this was discussed already sorry.

Air Jordan I's were based off of Dunks therefore the Dunk was released first. I've got a book at home that this was mentioned in.

I believe it was in the fall of 85 that the Dunks first appeared.
I know that MJ wore the Air Ships in the early part of his rookie year. When did hestart lacing up in the AJ1s? I swear it was the fall of his rookie year, but I could be wrong on this one...I was born in August of that year.

Dunks were released in 85 along with AJ1's, even tho I think the AJ1's were released before the Dunks the design was branched from the Nike Dunks

thnx to sole collector...

driven from within states that the I's were a basketball shoe that already existed, just with diff colors

since i'm old enough to know, the air jordan I was released before the college dunks. i don't know if the shoe(the dunk)was already designed...itprobably was...but i bought the red toe air jordans first, then later on i bought the michigan dunks that came out after the air jordan I.

The Dunk came first... but flew under the radar, then Air Jordan I came and was much loved yet much hated by sneaker heads, the first Air Jordan logo wasconsidered trash by many (I love it though)... the only person that Air Jordans look fresh on was Jordan himself...

The Air Jordan I in black/red released in March of 1985 along with the white/red/black. Dunks released in the fall of '85. I thought Jordan's were moremodeled off of the Air Ship, but I could be wrong.

If one shoe comes out before another, I would reason that the design was taken from the first and used towards the second. This may or may not have happened, just my opinion.

From Wikipedia:

Air Jordan I
Designed by Peter Moore and released in 1985, the Air Jordan I pair ofsneakers was considered a revolution in basketball shoe design[sup][2][/sup], although its design was improved upon later with the Nike Dunk. The shoe gained much initialpublicity and interest when the NationalBasketball Association banned it, saying that its vibrant black and red color violated the league's design rules, giving a five thousand dollar fine toMichael Jordan every time he wore the shoes on court. Nonetheless, other shoe companies scrambled to emulate the design, with some even introducing directknock-offs.

I'm not really sure when the dunks first appeared, but I think I remember reading somewhere that the AJ1 was based off the dunk
