Planning on starting a hand car wash for a weekend hustle...

So my family owns a hair salon, and the rear of the building is a perfect setup for a hand car wash. My problem is, I'm not really familiar with the business, but I know I can jump in and do work. I can wash a car.

So what's pricing like at local places? What kinds of services are offered? What are the best kinds of supplies to get with a pretty limited budget?

So this is all the services I've come up with so far. What other services should I add to the list, and what's reasonable pricing? I'm in Atlanta, if that makes a difference.

Services:
- Exterior wash
- Vacuum
- Wheel clean/tire shine (Should this be included with the wash?)
- Rain-X window treatment

Seriously, though? It's not profitable? I think it depends on how you market it. Why not get your car washed for the weekend while you're getting your hair done? It's a vanity focused business.

theres a waterless car wash in my local mall garage...

Convinient and seems too be making profit.

Try it... if it fails...

Get dat sack.

You gona have a water tank attatched to a truck?

Those kind of washed usually go for a bout $10- complete exterior only and quick vaccum inside

More detail inside plus wash is 15

become a paint exterior wonk...understand which towels dont scratch paint when you dry da car.

ATL, were you the NTer that wanted to do door to door computer troubleshooting or something like that? If that was you, how did that work out?

Sounds like a terrible idea IMO.

Why would I get my car washed by some random guy with no liability, when I could just take it to a car wash...

Once you get accused of scratching someone's car (and it will happen) you're ******.

$20. They're paying around 15 for the automatic & tire shine and vacuum around here. Get that premium for SUV's. Oh, and go to autopia's forum.

You are gonna need buckets , a good car wash soap , quick detailer , a good wheelcleaner that will handle all coatings and a Bunch of microfiber towels go to autogeek.net you can find everything there . If its at a salon thats perfect get their car washed while they wait . You have to set up a system it works better with 2 people because you can clean the cars a lot faster (one washes one rinses ) What do you plan on charging ?

might as well go sell lemonade on the side streets while you're at it

Try it out you don't got nothing to lose. Customers get their car washed while they get their hair done might get some to bite.

Kinda ghetto but use a leaf blower to get rid of most of the water off the car especially the very tight spots before drying with a towel.

Don't do it. This only works if you're high school girls.

What part of Atlanta OP? Judging by the plan you described I don't see why you can't succeed with this as a weekend hustle.

Don't listen to em op . That sounds like a good idea. I've been considering opening one myself.
You're gnna need a pressure washer to really clean the cars tho amongst other things.
Its not just as simple as a hose and soap if you want it to thrive.

Cut you supplies by half

provide bikini service (not you in bikini please)

profit

Yeah, that was me. It wasn't door-to-door, though. I probably mentioned putting flyers on every door in my apartment complex, which I did, but it didnt' proove lucrative at all. I think I'm impatient though. I posted a flyer on the neighborhood bulliten board and got like 3 calls off of it. Two repeat customers. I need to post the flyer back up because I actually had the front office referring me to residents.

I need to learn patience.

Word? That doesn't ruin paint? I'll have to look into it.

And as far as liability, wouldnt a quick photo shoot of the car before washing cover me as far as that goes?

If you're a one man operation go for quality not quantity. Learn how to do paint correction (the right way, autopia.org) invest in the tools/supplies and target the luxury/exotic crowd

There's setting in which you can turn it down a bit i believe and it's mainly for the wheels. To really get the dirt out.
All car washes around my way have em and the spot I been going for years uses it as well . Never damaged the paint.
