The Official Tennis Thread (Vol. 2024 Oz Open Nadal Out)

Kei got a fit off.
I recognize that Uniqlo shirt, lol. Their tennis gear is kind of boring, but all of their clothing is high-quality stuff.
I'm interested to see how Serena looks against Camila. Who knows what's up with her knee but she has a good opportunity to go far.
I'm worried about this myself. It's always the early rounds where Serena's prone to lose at Slams.

My favorite potential second-round matchup by far is Kyrgios vs. Nishioka. Genie vs. Aga probably second.

I like Ernie over Chardy first round. Muzz's quarter of the draw looks weakest IMO.

Puig beats Linette then Stosur. Dominika could make a deep run if/when she gets past Mladenovic. Picking Venus to lose to Johanna first round. Garbine my horse to win it all.

Ernie has been in the poorest form of his life last 6-8 months

Im holding two $100 tickets. Berdych at 90/1 and Milos at 55/1

Think there are a few darkhorses but I'm on mobile. Ill upload my bracket tonight

Sloane looked so good in Auckland too. Aga should have no problem cruising through that section now.

Meanwhile, Nole breathes a sigh of relief with Karlovic going out early.

Always thought it'd be a doping scandal that would rock Tennis before a damn match fixing one :wow: :\

Really not digging the sleeveless look. Rafa can get away with it, but it doesn't work for most tennis players, lol.

Woz was a HUGE letdown. She was playing so aggressive in Auckland (at least before the Sloane match)... Painting the lines with winners and coming forward to the net. I thought this would turn out to be a nice season for her, but then she reverted back to the old Caroline "Death by Moon Ball" Wozniacki against Poots.

This is her last six tries at the Oz Open: SF (2011), QF (2012), 4R (2013), 3R (2014), 2R (2015), 1R (2016). She's literally going in reverse...

I always thought it was the unseeded or players she hasn't played a ton which gives her problems.

Everybody gives Serena problems when she's unfocused which was most of last year regardless of the outcome. I saw enough slow starts to last a lifetime. I don't know if it looks worse that she clearly had things other than tennis on her mind or that nobody on the WTA tour can beat Serena with a 1 set head-start. Serena doesn't come out guns blazing unless it's Sharapova on the other side of the net. It's almost like she doesn't really care about losing to anybody else.

I agree. Serena has been on this unbelievable run, however, she just isn't as sharp mentally as she once was. Serena is still a tremendous fighter and mentally tougher than 90% of the players out there but in the past she would lose in majors because she was out of shape, not motivated or turned into Venus and hit tons of UEs. Serena is more fit than she has ever been during this run (maybe not 19 year old Serena fit but still very fit), her game is cleaner than ever and she has reigned in the UEs but her mental edge isn't there. Serena seems to get down on herself if she hits a poor shot and she instantly gets negative and starts to cry, curse etc. Her negative emotions will cause her to be up a set and two breaks only to miss a few shots or serves and then she goes on a downward spiral where she will have to scrap just to win in the third. That was her year last year which I don't know if that was because of being unfocused or just not getting over poor points or games like she used to.

@SinnerP, any pics from Nishioka's match?
Oooo... sorry man, haven't seen any...

Rafa in a bit of trouble!  FeVer playing well, but Rafa should have taken that TB... missed 2nd-serve-return on SP... double-faulted on his serve... then Fer served it out.
