The Official Tennis Thread (Vol. 2024 Oz Open Nadal Out)

Yeah, they said that they delayed their trip by a day to make sure the security was ok... or something like that.  Definitely a bit uneasy now.

Interesting that he had his team sit up in the stands so that he wouldn't berate them when things wouldn't go well.  A different mental approach by Muzz.  It's something he needs to change, definitely.

Another thing is that Muzz doing his job isn't enough.  Need the other guys to step up.  We saw it with Maria in the Fed Cup.

Yes in the early rounds it was James Ward and lately it's been his brother. But the fact is in every tie he has won all three rounds he played without which we would not be in the final so it's a one man job almost. What Andy did I the tie against the French the week after that Wimbledon pasting by Roger will live long In the memory.

Great DC final so far. Doubles a real quality match. Don't think it will be straightforward for Andy v Goffin toda.y. Yes he washed him in Paris a few weeks back but this is entirely different 4-5 sets for Andy I think [emoji]133660013031[/emoji]

That match point was insane. I know it's a team competition and I'm very bias but what Andy has done this year must put be the best Davis Cup achievement in pro history. Won every rubber, all 11 all live rubbers against the three other grand slam nations and final away from home. His commitment to the cause was outstanding putting the competition before achievement in other tournaments. He won some points today he had no right too. I know there are a lot of haters on here of him and I get why but you have to respect what he has just done.

In all the years I have been involved in British tennis and on the fringe of the LTA and I can tell you that not one person believed we would ever win the Davis Cup again until now. 5 years ago we were in the 4th divison. Hats off to Leon Smith too for what he has done when you consider Andy only started playing the competition again 2 years ago. Is there any other nation that has won with such a large gap in rankings between the 1st and 2nd ranked players in the team?

I guess you can tell I'm happy.

If Andy can get Australian (very possible) and French he has the lot. Perhaps some people will really accept then he is part of the big four and give him the respect he really deserves.

Full respect to his brother and James Ward too for that 5th set win against Isner in 1st round.[emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji][emoji]133654770156[/emoji]

Congrats to Andy!!
You forgot the US Open!
Not at all. I just put the events he won that I figured were most important to him and his country (which players would want on their resumes the most, I'd assume). Congrats, by the way!

So the Maria Sharapova & Friends event next month will be televised on Tennis Channel... Too bad I don't own an NT hat.

Just wish she would've been able to close the deal at Flushing Meadows but man what a year of dominance from her :x :x.

Serena had the Grand Slam thing going, but at face-value, I'd have to say Nole had the better season.  3 Slams, 6 Masters (a record) and 82-6 for the season.  Serena had a not-too-shabby season too, with 3 Slams and a 53-3 record, but a lot less "Master-equivalent" titles... 1 Premier Mandatory and 1 Premier 5 title each.

Still... I can't get past the fact that a damn horse was in the running.

No, but she did have way more pressure winning the first three legs of the GS

I agree. In reality they both had a great year and I would give the edge to Nole as far as his season went but winning a major on three different surfaces can't be overstated.

gotta go out and cop that issue. Very happy for Serena and people criticizing her because she chose this kind of cover can go **** themselves
