MLB 13 The Show Fact Sheet

NEW FEATURES IN MLB 13 THE SHOW:

- The “Post Season” Mode (PS3 & PS Vita): MLB 13 The Show will introduce users to Post Season Mode this year as it offers quick entrance directly into the Post Season, fast-tracking your run to the World Series. The mode offers you the choice of selecting to play with one team, or all 10. The format utilizes the newly changed playoff structure, with a single-game Wild Card round leading into the standard Division, Championship, and World Series rounds. The Division Series, Championship Series, and World Series can all be set to varying lengths (Single game, best of 3, best of 5, or best of 7 are all available). Only the Wild Card round is hardwired to a single-game, winner advancing format. Additional options for the mode include selecting the venue for each game. Lastly, all of the game control options you've come to know are available in this mode, including: single player, head-to-head play, co-op play, and PlayStation[emoji]174[/emoji]Move support.

- Cross Platform Online Home Run Derby (PS3 & PS Vita): MLB 12 The Show introduced Online Home Run Derby[emoji]8482[/emoji] to the PS3. MLB 13 The Show brings this experience to the PS Vita with the inclusion of cross platform play. Regardless of whether users are logged into a PS3 or PS Vita, selecting an Online Home Run Derby match will gather users into one game experience. You could be playing against users in a train, plane or their living room!

- Beginner Mode (PS3 & PS Vita): In an effort to make The Show more accessible and to help users learn the fundamentals of the game Beginner Mode has been added. No matter the age or skill level, the new Beginner Mode offering allows the user the opportunity to succeed when playing The Show. Beginner mode uses an advanced, adaptive AI system that dynamically updates your skill level on the fly. It starts out on the easiest of levels and only advances as the user improves.

- New Push/Pull Hitting Trajectories Engine (PS3 & Vita): New to MLB 13 The Show is our Push/Pull hitting trajectory tendencies engine. When you hit select during the pitcher-batter matchup, the in-game screen it will show you if the current hitter is Extreme Pull, Pull Hitter, Balanced, Opposite field Hitter, or an Extreme Opposite field hitter. Both A.I. and human hitters will hit more balls to their preferred side according to this attribute. This data is derived from real yearly spray charts provided to us by MLB.com. Despite this shift, very late and very early timing remains unchanged. Rather, within good timing, a larger chunk of the timing window is considered early for pull hitters. This means if you swing too early on a changeup, your timing won’t change at all. But if you get good timing on a pitch, it will be biased towards the hitters preferred zone. You will also now see more defensive shifts when Push and Pull hitters are at the plate.

- Franchise and Season Mode Evolution (PS3 & PS Vita): MLB 13 The Show is set on improving the user's experience in Franchise mode by focusing on player development, while creating a more realistic and dynamic league as time progresses. Additions include a newly implemented team budget that focuses on a reward-penalty system which is solely based on a team's performance on the field. MLB 13 The Show is the most realistic baseball game ever as multiple years’ worth of real-life data was used to determine the team-specific correlation between win-loss record and budget size, while also looking at postseason performance. This new budget system results in a more dynamic league, in which a low-budget team can become a big spender after a period of sustained excellence, mirroring real teams in the big leagues.

Furthermore, team-specific player valuations were also added in order to add personality to each team. These valuations are based on the team's league, their home stadium and historical tendencies. These changes affect every facet of a team's decision making process, from drafting, to promotions and demotions, to trade decisions and free agent acquisitions. In addition to these changes, the user can expect improved Player Generation and Career Progression, as well as new Scouting and Training systems.

- Road to The Show Evolution (PS3 & PS Vita): One of the most popular aspects of MLB 13 The Show, Road To The Show, has been reworked this year in an effort to provide players with the most immersive and realistic on-field experience ever in a sports video game. More focus has been made to bring simpler control over a users’ player on the field in order to bring an unparalleled experience to the game. Environmental improvements, such as a revamped on-field sound system, enhances hundreds of new sound FX, player yells, and crowd sounds so they are heard prominently and realistically from the player's perspective on the field. Other notable improvements include a new user-controlled catch system, a revamped catcher mode, an improved Performance Evaluator to include baserunning and fielding, new custom batting animation sets, pitch type tip-offs when on defense, position-specific tasks such as calling for a pick-off as a middle infielder, and much more.

- The Show Live (PS3 & PS Vita): The Show Live provides an exhibition-based mode using data from MLB.com to populate daily match-ups, line-ups and starting pitchers, giving users the opportunity to play in an environment that matches the “real-world.” The Show Live presents games in the same way as season-based modes, with up-to-date player and team statistics. Hear commentators reference the previous or next day’s events, based on real-world situations and information. Users have the choice to play a game from today, or turn the calendar back and play any game from earlier in the season. The Show Live brings users closer to Major League Baseball action than ever before!

Buster deserves the cover of any baseball related cover this year....but being a Giants fan and being supersticious... better that he wasnt on it

looks like they didnt add anything important, all crap imo

The fact sheet doesn't reveal much. Skipped last year's game because it was pretty much the same as 11. RTTS needs a revamp badly.

Haven't played MLB 12 in a minute.

Gonna hold off from copping MLB 13 right away; probably pick it up around Black Friday after the price drop.

^stopped buying the show after they banned me for boosting

Toine, you waiting for BF to cop?!?

Season will be over by then

New Scouting and Training System in Franchise Mode is what i'm looking forward to the most.

Nah GHIMS, just don't have time for a new Show game in my rotation right now.

Shocked he won the cover, I thought Cabrera would win.

I was hoping CC would but I'm sure he was last in votes

I've been looking to pickup a baseball game for a minute, since I first got my ps3 years ago.  Was about to get 12, but figured this would come out.  Glad they added the beginner mode because I heard it's a challenging game to learn.

Pretty sure the contest was rigged..how did this guy get more votes with so many celebrities RT'ing CC & Kemp. It was probably decided months ago and this was for exposure. Anyway, got a PS3 in August, felt it was too late to cop The Show 12', looking forward to 13' very much.

The same here Dodgers even called out the Pirates on twitter. I really thought Posey was going to get the cover.

Still pissed that they didnt add the Wild Card game to last 2012...........A simple game update would have been perfectly fine.

Anyway.............Im sure ill have It.

EXCLUSIVE! In MLB[emoji]174[/emoji] 13 The Show[emoji]8482[/emoji]: Last year we introduced Online Home Run Derby[emoji]8482[/emoji] to the PS3 with MLB 12 The Show. MLB 13 The Show brings this experience to the PS Vita with the addition of cross platform play. Regardless of whether users are logged in to a PlaySstation[emoji]174[/emoji]3 or PlayStation[emoji]174[/emoji]Vita, selecting an Online Home Run Derby match will gather users into one game experience. You could be playing against users in a train, plane or their living room!

Like last year, when entering an Online Home Run Derby[emoji]8482[/emoji] contest, you will have the option to play a “Random Match” or “Play With Friends.” Random match will set you up against other online users in the queue. This can be against 2-7 other players (8 users max).

When you select “Play with Friends” you’ll be shown a list of any lobbies your friends have created, or you can choose to “Create Lobby” yourself.

Check out Home Run Derby Online when MLB 13 The Show comes out, for a chance to be crowned the Home Run Derby champion and earn extra XP.

All players will see and be able to swing at pitches at the same time and watch each hit, which is represented by multi-colored hit ribbons that stretch from home plate to wherever the ball lands.

[h1]MLB 13 The Show: Diamond Dynasty Puts You In Control[/h1]
+ Posted by Nick Livingston // Game Designer, MLB 13 The Show

Hello friends, Nick Livingston here. I am a designer on MLB 13 The Show. First, I brought you a blog about the new Universal Profile. Now, I want to talk about Diamond Dynasty.

Tons of feedback from TheShowNation.com has driven us to expand, improve, and fine-tune the systems that make up Diamond Dynasty. Take a look at the content below for a preview of what you can expect from Diamond Dynasty in MLB 13 The Show. Please note that the video footage is of a work-in-progress, and many things will update before we hit the shelves.

We’re really excited about how the Dynasty Card has evolved. They now display more information about the player’s abilities, which will give you an idea of what you are getting right away, but more importantly how good a player can get. Be aware that each Dynasty Player has maximum thresholds that he can reach in each attribute, so picking which cards you want to activate to your team has become much more important. We really want to drive the point home that cards now distinguish between Starting Pitchers, Relievers, and Closers. This is one area where we really took fan feedback to heart to improve this year’s version of The Show.

One issue we had last year was with players quitting. We want you to know that all systems are now compatible with partial games. For example, any systems that earn you Budget for playing a game are displayed and resolved on a per inning basis. We’ve made a number of efforts to encourage players to finish games without dropping out. For example, the Mercy Rule is in play (10 runs after three innings). Of course, someone is going to want to quit if they are getting obliterated. Now you just need to grin and bear it for a little while, and mercy will be had.

So, you saw what was in the video. But, what improvements weren’t covered?

Well, we decided to introduce the Designated Hitter in MLB 13. Users can choose whether they want to play by American or National League rules. Are you a baseball tactician who wants to use small-ball tactics and challenge your opponent to make strategic substitutions? Or will you stack nine sluggers and let your bats do the thinking?

If you love customizing, the Logo Editor got a handful of new tricks and a boatload of new samples. The Expand tool allows you to expand the borders of selected layers without skewing the core of the layers. This is perfect for quickly making borders, or altering fonts. Easily choose between MLB Team primary colors to exactly match your team with the team you love.

And finally, Diamond Dynasty Home provides at-a-glance information about the status of your team to help you stay on top of your managerial responsibilities.

We hope you enjoyed hearing about all the improvements and additions in Diamond Dynasty. What are you looking forward to the most?

[h1]MLB 13: The Show preview - Learning to hit all over again[/h1][h2]Baseball’s barrier to entry is taken to ground level[/h2]
Realism and interactivity have proven to be bedfellows-at-odds in recent MLB games. Between esoteric stats, precision pitching, and ever-fluctuating lineups, casual fans face a stiff barrier to entry, and that's a problem Sony hopes to address with MLB 13 The Show. The developer has created a mode that feels like a cross between a mini-campaign and a robust tutorial, aptly named Beginner mode. Sony admits that accessibility has been one of the problems of the previous versions of The Show--getting people to understand the controls is one thing, but turning that level of understanding into actually winning games is a grand slam.

The most promising aspect of Beginner mode is its tutorial-based thoroughness. It starts off simple by giving you easy fastballs to hit, but The Show won't progress unless you've shown you can hit. If you could handle those straight fastballs, you'll graduate to changes in velocity as well as movement of the ball around the strike zone. This kind of hand-holding also applies to pitching and you'll undergo a series of exercises before the game feels you're ready for the next level: Rookie mode.

Despite this emphasis on training new players, MLB 13 will have more than enough authenticity-tailored content to keep the series faithful busy. There’ll still be the expectation that most batters will only have one or two hits per game, just like in real life. The return of Legend mode will ensure you're facing an AI team where every fielder has perfect Golden Glove skills.

With memories of MLB 12 still fresh, we were able to spot subtle changes to the camera work in this year iteration. There are new camera angles and it felt like there were more camera changes and zooms within a given play.

This console generation has given sports game studios enough resources to truly emulate the TV production experience, down to the over-saturation of glossy graphics and transitions. So far, MLB 13 has done a good job copying that TV-network aesthetic, though it’s admirable the game for keeping those camera angles that no real life on-field camera man could pull off. This drive to improved ambiance can also be found in the newly added post-season national anthems and the expanded variety of Jumbotron visuals.

For a 162-game-season sport like baseball, you can't have true realism without keeping up with the ever-changing line-ups. Past MLB The Shows have had weekly roster updates and Sony plans to improve upon that for MLB 13. Not only does this include trades among active players, but also players who have been called up from the minor leagues. New to MLB 13 are updated mugshot photos so in the unimaginable event that the Giants' Buster Posey gets traded to the Washington Nationals, the game will update his mugshot with the same red, white, and blue uniform that MLB has.

In terms of visual realism with the players themselves, we didn't notice any improvements with textures, but Sony was proud to show off the player-specific swing animations. While we're used to seeing sluggers' trademark stances and walks to the batter's box, this is the first MLB The Show to have the players' distinct follow-through animations of in-field hits and home runs.

For the statistics nut, the newly added The Show Live is going to ensure you'll be playing MLB 13 every day from April to October. This feature pulls the current day's stats and line-ups right off MLB.com. Teams turn in their lineups hours before the start of each game, so you could actually play that evening's game with every miniscule change factored in--say, if Josh Hamilton ended up batting seventh instead of clean up.

Sony isn't waiting for the competition to motivate them to improve The Show. TV network production values could always use fine tuning and the loyal fans will hopefully appreciate the subtle animation changes and constant stat updates. With the amount of work put into Beginner mode, this also looks like the year that Sony manages to grab a considerable amount of new customers.

As a Sony exclusive, MLB 13: The Show will be available for both PlayStation 3 and PS Vita on March 5, 2013, right in the middle of spring training.
