24 Looking to build Credit... What are some good tips on your first Credit Card

Is it hard to get a CC when you never had one?

No. I just applied for one end got approved in seconds. Provided that you have been paying your bills on time you should be able to get one with ease. As long as you dont get one of those high end credit cards.

My brother got approved instantly with discover and he had basically zero credit

someone on NT trying to snake referrals for discover? :nerd: got an email referral invite from someone named "A". the only place I posted about the discover card was on here  dudes trying to be sneaky out here

For those who have a Chase Sapphire credit card what was the credit score needed to get that?

The sapphire does require excellent credit. you can't get lower than a 5k starting limit cause their card begins at least with 5k and up with this card . Any credit score 700 and up you should be good. I've seen people get it with high 600s too however it really depends on your overall profile. You should try chase pre qualify site to see what's pre approved, chase is usually on point with those so if you're pre qualified you should be golden. It's a great card one of the more prestige one and it's made out of metal. It's catered towards high spenders though and there's a annual fee, the upside is their sign up bonus of 40k points is worth about like 500 bucks in travel or 400 in cash back, but you have to spend 4K in 90 days lol

Just planning for the future. I already put 1k a month on my card anyway. Dont mind charging another 340 a month.

If my credit score really is above my CK credit score I might be there already

not sure, mine is pretty easy to find via facebook/twitter/linkedin (same usernames for everyone) or whatever. It's gotta be someone in here though

Honestly idk...don't know what my fico is and my score on credit karma was nothing to brag about....I have it and they gave me a 5k limit...

I haven't used it outside of gas though

Just do the chase pre approve thing and see which cards pop up

Hopefully people are still using this thread.. I stop visiting at page 28, so i'm reading everything from page 28 to present, but I want to ask a question about what i'm dealing with now.

So i'm on credit karma checking my score, and looking at the four items i have in collections.

I've had these items in collections for ranging years, ones from 07, 2010, 2011, 2008 and that is all.

Credit karma stated my score at a 529, but after i got a consult with Lexington law they said my true score was a 600. I kind of know how the point systems works, but not in detail like a lot of the members on this board.

My question is, Lexington law wants to charge me 12.99 initial fee, and then 99 dollars after the first month to clean up these inquires how every they can. Ones from sprint, which was back in 2007 so i know due the 7 year stat law its should be dismissed, and the other two don't even have proper dates of collection and if they don't have dates then they cant enforce the collection i've heard. one might stick, but i'm still unsure..

My question is, is it stupid to use Lexington law? I don't want to handle these inquiries myself, id rather some paralegal do it. And is there a company i should use? Is the range difference in my score fishy? Any information will help...

You can easily do what they are going to do yourself free. You are willing to pay the company up to $1200 (could take 1 year to clean up your scores) for a very simple task IMO it is not worth it.

You don't want to do it yourself ,so paying a company is the only alternative.

No it is not fishy for your scores to differ. CK uses FAKO(non official credit scores) not FICO scores, so they will never be accurate.

CK scores are usually 30-100 points lower for most people.

Good looks NT fam, those 5 who wanted to join through me thank you and you should be getting yours when your card comes in :nthat:

Nah, only put it. For some reason 5 NTers all PMed me in one day and they all got approved other than that I don't think I've done a discover referral in over a year and before that I only did two. A NTer and my brother

If you are going to do the sapphire might as well do the freedom card too. The freedom card has no annual fee and pretty sure 0% interest for first 12-18 months. You can link your points with freedom and sapphire card together for a greater total.

Capital One just said they would increase my limit to 3500 after a few more on time payments. Is there a way to say I want more than that. I was at least expecting a 1k increase. Not some ******** 500 increase.

Do you have the quick silver card?

Don't worry after a few months just ask for an increase and unless you have a lot of debt they should give you it

Every forum I browse has Discover giving people $10,000 initial limits. Apparently it's not uncommon to have a $20,000 limit on a Discover IT card either. Meanwhile I think Bank of America has done maybe 3 random credit line increases in almost 9 years for me. It started at $1,000 then $3500 then $5500 now it's $7800 but i had to ask for that last 1. That's not counting the cut from $3500 to $1800 during the recession.

Maybe if you got long history and excellent credit and what not

If you look on the forums those people are obsessed with credit and got like 10 different cards with 20k limit each
