24 Looking to build Credit... What are some good tips on your first Credit Card

I'd cancel that card before they got trigger happy honestly. I don't trust ANYONE with my credit. My mom would just have to be mad at me.

Just want to make sure this would be correct....

So the Discover has the 10% cashback for new members.

I see they have a 10% Discover Deal on a certain website.

If I buy something from that website, I would get 20% cashback, right?

22% back since they give you 1% back on all purchases.

They also have a 10% cash back promotion when you use apple pay in store.

Yea I knew about the Apple Pay bonus for the rest of the year. I was making sure the Discover Deals counted too. I didn't realize I would get the 1% bonus now as well. Thought it was just the 10% initially

Yes Discover Deals count too. You can take advantage of 10-15% Cashback when you combine a Discover Deal with a 5% Cashback category.

They suck for traveling tho. Outside the Americas the places that take the card is few and far in between
Thats what other cards are for. While I'm in America 99% of the time Discover It is usually my #1 choice, haven't been to a place that doesn't accept Discover. American Express on the other hand a lot of places don't accept.

Discover is widely taken in America I know. American Express is hardly even taken in America

What is your favorite Discover Card anyway? I'll be looking into one around Dec-Jan

Can you name a few sites doing this right now?

After I close on my co-op this discover card will deff be my next card. I thought i was doing it with my Chase freedom :smh:

That is pretty much how I ended up with my Citi card.

That 18 month no interest is too clutch

Other than when I used to it to transfer a balance a year or so ago, it sits at 0 though, lol

I will probably do another balance transfer in the next month or so, because I just realized that my wife has 2 dept. store cards with balances and she letting them hit her with those 20+% interest rates

Damn. I easily spent the $1,500 5% limit on all those stores too. Not to mention free FICO and one of the few cards that can drop down to 10.99% APR too. Will def get that next. Prolly around Christmas

Yea I need to remember I can cancel the BoA credit monitoring I had with them. Granted theirs was nice as it alerted me instantly if my credit had an inquiry or anything. I just had to pay for it monthly was the issue.

Man I have to remember not all places have a sign saying they accept ApplePay, smh

I also forget that the phone will pick up if it is near a terminal it can use.

I got a sub from subway yesterday and as I was walking out, the Discover card was on the screen asking if I wanted to pay with it

Discover deals is different from the revolving 5% cashback window?

Yes two separate cash back programs that are stackable.
Yup they have their normal cashback program in general and then they you can on their site and "activate" other deals for the month/quarter that can stack.

               - I believe the current one is Department stores & Amazon.com; last promo was Dept. stores, home improvement stores & Amazon.com

They then also list out websites where there is another 5% cashback as well when you shop online.

            - I was looking for a new bookbag to carry with me to work. I was on their site and notice North Face was listed, so I figured I would see what deal they had. It was the 5% cashback when you use the card. Once you clicked on the offer, it told you that you had 3 hours to checkout from that link and the redirected you to the North Face website to make your purchase.

Curious why you're going with the Discover Card? I've been trying to look into and debate in my head which of these two I should get as my first card.

Pros/Cons of both if you dont mind?

I originally got the chase because you get the 1% on everything then the 5% quarterly bonuses that rotate. Discover from what im seeing has multiple stores that I frequent that get 5% and up where as the offering from Chase doesnt look as good to me.

I would look at where you currently spend most of your money and what your looking to get (points for travel ,cash back, etc) then pick the one that fits your needs.

I want cash back because i just look at it as a discount so why not get cash back then just pay off the card.
