24 Looking to build Credit... What are some good tips on your first Credit Card

We going to have to start a round-robin list of all the DiscoverIT NTers, and we all take turns getting the $50 referral bonus

Yea the major difference is the fact that with a condo you own it like you own a house but with a co-op the corporation owns the building but you own shares in the corporation based on your square footage. It makes sense that they aren't in the south or mid west because you guys don't have these big apartment complexes.

But yea its the first step for us to be able to save and spend the extra money on investment properties. I'm hoping to buy a house to actually live in within 3-4 years. Credit should be excellent by that point

I found these links for anyone else that is interested or hasn't heard of them.

How's the process going for ya ? I've been looking into co-ops/condos for a while now. It's really annoying to find one that accepts dogs and how much more you have to pay.

It is honestly very long and tedious .

Once you factor in what you are looking for it really narrows down your options and you find yourself having to compromise . We don't have a dog currently so I had to give it up in the end because there were only 2-3 buildings that allowed them and they were a lot more expensive for what I was getting.

But one you find a place the hard part is getting all of your information and applications submitted.

First you have the bank which in my case wasnt bad but the co op board wants all the info the bank wants plus more. The application was at least 50 pages then you have to print out w2s, bank statements, 401k, student loan info, references 3 work 2 personal. etc etc. I think it took at least 2-3 weeks to gather all of the info and have the letters written from our references and jobs.

Then you have to stay on top of the bank and make sure they are doing there job (my bank was good but the seller still owes money and they had some delays getting info from her side).

If you have any specific info let me know im in westchester county so its a lot different than the city but i may be able to help out.

Also this thread is good for info http://niketalk.com/t/345379/home-buying-real-estate-thread/980_20#post_24257559

Does anyone know if credit card points are considered an asset ?

Depends on who's point of view. To the bank it should be a contra asset similar to "Purchase Returns and Allowances". To the debtor it should be a contra liability similar to "discounts on bonds payable".

When I move from this Cap One card to Discover can I cancel this card without doing major damage to my credit score since it would be less than a year old? Once I stop using it I wont want to pay the $40 a year fee. Right now it is worth it since I earn enough cash back to get that fee back.

I love the discover deals portal in addition to the regular 5% rolling cashback categories. So many stores I shop at online with the portal like BB, NDC, finishline, etc. For the dudes looking to cop carolina 1s tomorrow with discover card dont forget to go through the NDC link on the portal first for your cash back.

also, those discover referrals are clutch. racked up $150 already :smokin if anyones still interested PM me.

Just close it. The potential for identity theft on an open card you're not using isn't worth it for a handful of points on your score. I think mine dropped like 15-20 points when I closed my Citi card a while back and it recovered in no time.

I've been eyeing the IT card for awhile and they have been flooding my mailbox with offers.

Finally broke down and signed up, my plan is to xfer balance of my oldest card which is capital one and then close it out. Its my oldest card but I feel like the IT will offer better value w/ no fees, rate, etc.

Received my Discover card. It's a very nice looking card (got the light blue one).

5% cash back gonna be clutch during the holidays

discover is clutch i recommend people to have signed up if they have a clean profile just let me know ill put you on :nthat:
