24 Looking to build Credit... What are some good tips on your first Credit Card

jaypesoz jaypesoz you are blessed.

screw it I'm gonna check my score........

EDIT: i used CreditCheckTotal these scores are based on a FICO Score 8

EXPERIAN: 521 :smh: :x
Transunion: 651
Equifax: 637

i don't think there is anything i can do...............i have no debt. its literally $0.00 an i have a lot of money, any advice?? I'm in the market to buy a car.

FICO is but one part of the puzzle. Bureau content is more important. There is such a thing as a good 521 and a bad 521.

Go to a local credit union, and see what approval you can get. With two bureaus in the 6's they'll be able to help. Cap One might be a good choice as well.

DO NOT go into a dealership without knowing your buying power.

some advice i just got from another forum, ill call my credit union tomorrow

also i was told by someone else if i can put down 50% MOST places will approve me

It's true if you put down A LOT of money they will approve you. I mean I haven't heard anyone do it lately but in the past even with garbage credit if you throw down a BIG payment and close to half the cost of the car you got approved

What car are you looking to buy?

You can buy a car with bad credit with a really big down payment. Only problem is your going to get slapped with a 15-20% rate [emoji]128514[/emoji]

Yeah he will get approved with 18% apr LOL, Al just wait.

I know your still trying to decide on the perfect car.

If you are impatient your best bet is to apply for a credit union car loan and have your financing done before you even walk through the door.

That is what is best to do when buying cars anyway, but with your scores like that the dealer is gonna kill you on the apr no matter how much of a deposit you put down. The money borrowed will be at an extremely high rate.

Then once your credit boost your gonna want to refinance, just not worth the hassle .

Al I also recommend you signing up for myFICO's 3 Bureau credit monitoring.

Do the monthly subscription, you can cancel at anytime.

Al, wait til those collections drop off. In about 30-45 days your scores will be high 600s or low 7s, maybe 675-710 range.

Just be patient wait to buy the car.

@FreshPairs  my total credit limit is 43K (4 cards), was around 49K but closed 2 cards. Highest card is 17.3K .

I'm not the highest in here I think @WrightOne86  has a 20K limit on his Discover IT.

But yea it is ~67k for 4 cards and the DiscoverIT is the highest at 22k. Others are like 17.5, 15, & 12 or something like that. I didn't include my BestBuy Mastercard or PayPal Connect Credit in this though. Never applied for a CLI, these are just the limits they gave me or do their little 1-2k increases randomly.
Damn yall eating, thats a car right there

Privacy Assist is FAKO also, just checked myFICO forums. If you are paying for it I suggest you cancel it.

Credit Karma is fine for a free FAKO.
Damn you Beezy!

I pay for this monthly, but I liked it more for the privacy assist and instant notification if my credit is used and not for the actual credit scores themselves. Got me thinking about dropping it now. I think it is like $13/month anyways at that

Excellence!

My goal is to hit $40K limit by year's end.

I'm currently at $25K but I'm slowly getting used to using my CC for everything instead of my debit.

Also using my CC to pay for my tuition each semester so that should help my case when I ask for a $6K increase next month.

After putting it off for months, I just requested a $5,000 limit increase from discover and got it instantly. You can ask for increases every 3 months correct? Does anyone know if Navy Federal does hard or soft pulls for credit limit increase request?

Request every 31 days. Discover does soft pulls unless they need more info for whatever reason and in that case they'll ask you if it's ok to do a hard pull. I got a $4000 increase then requested again 31 days later and got another $4000

Man something has to be up with that, all collections deleted and still in the 500s doesn't make any sense.

@WrightOne86 lol man I'd try to find something comparable that actually provides FICO.

Hold on with Discover you can request what limit you want?

When I requested mine, they gave me a range up to $2k. So, I just did the max range of $2k  . The last time I requested (maybe a year ago), they approved me for whatever they felt was reasonable.

Sounds like Discover is very lenient when it comes to CLI requests.

Anyone have any experience requesting credit increases from AMEX and/or Chase ?

I just requested a credit line increase from discover just to see what would happen. I wasn't expecting anything since I just received an increase in December, but they offered me a $5,000 increase, so my limit is now $19,500.

@Pitman13 I've gotten AMEX credit increases easily. They are very generous if you are a good customer and have good credit. I never tried to do an increase on my Chase account because it's usually a hard pull unless you call in and get lucky or if they send you an unsolicited offer.

Haven't requested with either yet, but from what I've read Amex lets you do a 3x CLI request at 61 days after your account opening then you can request every 6 months (all soft pulls). So if your starting limit is $3000 after 61 days you can request $9000 and most have been successful as long as you've had good history within that time. And chase only does hard pull requests or you can move balances from one chase card to another if you don't want to take the hard pull. I think they sometimes do auto CLIs but I can't chime in on those
