24 Looking to build Credit... What are some good tips on your first Credit Card

That's if you completely ignore any benefits included.

So you can get the card with $350 AF. If you fly at least once a year with a $250 or more ticket, you'll get reimbursed $250, making it essentially $100/year. If you use the 4th night hotel free benefit at a spot that costs $100/night (there's no limit as to how much that 4th night costs and no limit as to how many times a year you can use it), you've already evened out. Everything else is gravy.
I haven't even gotten to take advantage of it yet

Actually signing up for the Global Entry right now. Super useful for me since it comes with TSA pre-check and I fly domestically at least 5-6 times a year. Also live in SD and this would give me the Sentri pass that lets me bypass all that traffic at the Mexico border.

Dope! I decided to do it after my girl and I went to Miami in December. On the way back, we were on the TSA line for 30 minutes while precheck was empty. I said never again.

When we got back from Spain, if we didn't have to wait for our baggage, we would of been no more than 10 minutes from the time we got off the plane to stepping outside.

Up $75 on the AF on this hotel booking alone.

I get a 15% bonus points for being a CitiGold customer. I'm earning 3.45 points per dollar spent for travel. It comes out to 6300 points which is worth about $100.

I'll also earn SPG points and get a 50% bonus for being a SPG gold customer.

:smokin

Damn dude. I want your life.

Yeah like based said the prestige will pay itself off time again. Haven't had my Amex PRG pay itself off yet. It's literally just used as a debit card.

That 4th night free perk is gold, I'd love to take advantage of that hotel in Miami 4 nights for the price of 2 :pimp:.

Yup, a lot of hotels offer 3rd or 5th night free, so you can combine it with the 4th night with the Prestige.

I just signed up for the CSP for its sign-on bonus, but I personally don't have much of a use with the CSP as a regular card. I'm planning on converting it to the Freedom Unlimited once it comes time for the AF to kick in. You might want to consider the same instead of canceling it altogether. You might want to confirm that the UR points travel with the card though before you do that.

Prestige's card is plain old plastic which was kinda disappointing

UR points won't transfer to the freedom unlimited or any other non annual fee chase card.

Good to know. I'm probably gonna transfer to Hyatt in that case.

Aware me on this. I didn't know hotels offered that

It's obviously hotel specific so not every one offers it. Gotta look for them on their websites.

For Four Seasons:

Starwood has a few too:

All of the other chains seem to do it, but they're location specific. Definitely have to look for it.

Blue cash everyday from amex worth it?

Depends on what you spend on. It's alright for groceries with 3% back 2% gas and department stores and 1% on everything else so there are similar or better cards out there. A while back when I got mine they had the $250 sign up and 10% back on cell phone company purchases not sure if they're still running that promo. Been paying my cell phone bill with it every month and getting 10% off

Amex Blue cash everyday is worth it since there's no annual fee. I don't have any other Amex cards, and the Offers program is great since you get $xx off $xx from various stores every once in a while.

Posted this a while back:

PM me for referral. You get $100 statement credit after spending $1k in first 3 months.

I got the preferred because it raises the groceries to 6% and gas is 3% up to 6k spent i believe. Annual fee is 95 so its not too bad if u do a fair amount of grocery shopping or driving.

Not related but i got an email today chase freedom is doing 10% cash back on hotels and car rentals made thru ultimate rewards. Might be worth looking into if your traveling.

Damn idk if I wanna go Amex Everyday for the 3x CLI/Rewards or Bankamericard Cash Rewards for the 200 bonus churn (I need a TV )

Decisions.

I love my amex everyday card. 3% groceries year round, plus large credit lines and other random savings.

Yea unless you guys will be applying for a car loan or mortgage soon, apply for cards and take advantage of the sign up bonuses

What are you looking for in a card? Just to get your first credit card? Rewards? Discover it card is good for people with slim profiles

I would love rewards... but my main goal is to start building my credit and then in the future start applying for other cards as well like chase etc etc etc

So now my question is after I get discover and build up some credit history... like when do you say to yourself "Ok my credit score is solid and could apply for another CC such as a chase/amex etc etc"

EDIT: I also heard it isn't a good idea to apply for another CC right after you just got declined? Not sure how true though thoughts?

Yea chase is hard to get for a first or sometimes even second/third card. try discover for a first card. They like slim credit profiles and you can increase your limit pretty fast. Great cash back card too with the double cash back promotion. If you use a referral link to apply you'll get $50 cash back too, and that counts as cash back that they double after your first year. Check your pms.

You should only apply for cards when you have a good use/need for them. But prequalify tools on the respective credit companies websites are a good tool to use to see if you've got a good chance of getting the card. Age of accounts is what I usually consider when thinking about applying for a new card though. I try to let my card(s) age for about a year or so or 6 months at the soonest before getting another card. Somebody else may have some other input though

Edit: forgot to answer your other question. It only looks bad when start to rack up a lot of inquiries on your report. If you're declined for a card the only thing others can see is the inquiry on your report. But if you're declined like 3-5 times, more than likely you need to get something fixed on your report or build some credit history
