24 Looking to build Credit... What are some good tips on your first Credit Card

What are some good credit cards that offer more than 1.5% cash back indefinitely and not just a promotion?

Currently, I am grandfathered in with my Mastercard where I get back 2% on all purchases, but I reached my annual spending cap in August, where I should be receiving $5k CB. Also got DiscoverIT to take advantage of the double cash back for the first year and the rotating 5% cash back, but my first year ends the first week of November. Should be getting $6k CB from that. Also carry my AMEX Gold.

Any other cc which offer decent CB? Much appreciated!
Citi doublecash card is unlimited 2% cash back. 1% when you buy 1% when you pay.

And gotdamn fam what are you buying to get that much cash back?

Pretty sure @LiLcHiCo4LiFe is a covert baller

crazy ebw crazy ebw I'll definitely look into the Amex Blue Cash Preferred. The thing is most of my purchases are for business so the 3% supermarkets, 2% gas, 1% everything else doesn't really apply to me as I don't really go grocery shopping and purchase fuel. I'll still look at it nonetheless. Appreciate it.

jon4rd jon4rd Will look into the Citi double cash back card as well. That 1% when you purchase and 1% when you pay doesn't sound bad at all.

Majority of my purchases are for my businesses. I deal with vendors where some accept cc as a form of payment. Why not get CB for it since they're major purchases. I can easily spend $600k-$800k annually each for just a couple locations of mine.

Dat spending power :smokin 8)

You may want to look into the Chase Ink card if that's the case. I'm not sure what their limits are and when you cap out at spending, but work a look. I believe they do 5% on some categories

He out there maxing out 2 CC CB rewards in the same year and looking for another!

Definitely a good situation to be in. CC rewards are so competitive now a days, why not take advantage in being a loyal customer :pimp:

Did a dispute for an old collection on Transunion, and it got deleted!!!! Happy bout that. I did the dispute through experian as well, still waiting on results

Is it gonna bump my score up??

Want a new card... only have CapitalOne and DiscoverIT...is American Express easy to get??

Traditionally AmEx wasn't "as easy" to get, however requirements for the BC Everyday cards don't seem too difficult. As much money as they spend marketing that card, they want a high approval rate.

Their BCE card offers more for me personally instead of their charge cards.

Speaking of Amex; for those of you whom never carry a balance from M2M, do you all also use charge cards, since they are aren't calculated into the credit utilization aspect and has other benefits over credit cards, if paid off monthly.

I have Amex charge Card. Question regarding paying off my charge card? I understand I pay off in full every month, but does it work like a cc in the sense that I have 30 days to pay? Thanks.

Personally for me, I pay in full but it doesn't matter if I use a charge card or credit card because yes that it's true charge cards utilization won't count towards you, but for a credit card you can pay it off right before the statement cut so it reports $0 too if you wanted to anyway.

For the charge card there's a "please pay by" date which is about 14 days after your statement cuts, however it's been said that you can ignore that and as long as you pay before the next statement cycle cuts ( 30 days) that you'll be be good and on time. If you wanna be super safe or OCD I guess paying by the "please pay by date" will give you peace of mind even though you technically you get get that 30 days grace to put in payment before the next statement.

The biggest benefit of an AmEx charge card will be the rewards points and accrual rate that you get them at. If you spend enough to make it worth the annual fee, its a great card to have. Their lounges at the airports are awesome if you have access.

Pulled a MyFico report, 730/703/708 (Equifax, Transunion, and Esperian) across the board. If I get an auto loan it'll go down 15/5/20.

Was bored as hell last night so I decided to request a CLI with Discover and got the 2 business day alert. Got upped to $21.5K this morning :pimp:

I just got an increase to 15k less than 30 days ago too. I'm def done now don't want to deal with the headache after 25k limits and verification

I've never paid after the "Please pay by this date" day. The annual fee isn't bad on the PRG either was better at $175 - $100 airline credit but it's $195 now.

Long story short I have neglected my credit for years. Stumbled on this thread about 6months back and have been reading and reading trying to get my acumen up.

I haven't had a credit card in at least 5 years and still have an old collection on my report. Decided to open a Capital one card befor going on vacation about a month ago. They only gave me a 300 limit and I rang up a quick 220 and paid that off. I then rang up another 200 and payed off 120 and left about 82 on the card for it to post on my first month statement.

Nice, if you get that collection removed you'll see another big jump. Keep working bro

just did a discover IT CLI cause the 30 days from last months CLI just passed. went from 10k to 16k after getting the 2 business day notification :smokin

Got approved for Amex PRG, fee was waived for the first year so I said **** it.  Just gonna carry that and the Sapphire and leave everything else at home.  Hopefully it'll help me curb my spending knowing I have to pay it off every month.

hey guys, i had a question...

so ive had the chase freedom unlimited for about 8 months now and have been doing paying off the bills, but it says the minimum i need to pay each month is only $25? is that okay just to be paying $25 every month if i dont have the money at the moment to pay off the entire balance? it says i have 0%apr for first year and not too sure what that means either...

i also just opened a chase sapphire reserve card because ill be traveling next week for a month to europe and wanted a card to waive the foreign transaction fees, im not sure how much i will be spending out there, but i plan on charging everything onto that card. would i need to pay off the card the first month or can i wait a little after i get back to repay without getting any penalties?

i have about 710 credit score right now and do not want to eff that up... (im not even sure if 710 is even good or not?)

Concerning the minimum payment, you are correct, that is the amount you have to pay to keep the card current.  0% apr means you won't pay any interest on your purchases for the first year.  If you have a balance after the first year is up, you will start getting charged the regular interest if the card is not payed off in full each month.

so my credit score won't go down until the first year and that's if i just don't pay the balance in full right?

Great card and good choice, imo the PRG is Amex's best charge card overall. 2x in dining, gas, supermakerts and 3x on airfare, including $100 airline credit. It's their best charge card to pile up points quick. Even their platinum card isn't on the same level points wise unless youre spending a whole lot on their new 5x airfare category because everything else will be worth 1 point. The plat is more of a perks card and PRG more of a rewards card, so if youre into points and spend in those category its a great fit for you.

With 0% apr you wont have to pay interest the first year, depending on how high your balance you may want to pay it down more or in full because high utlization still kills your score (if you care about that). So on one side you can hold on to your money and pay the min. because you wont be charged interest but on the other side if your balance is high your scores will take a dip.

Also congrats on the chase sapphire reserve approval! tough card to get with a min. 10k credit limit for acceptance, your profile must be solid. I would definitely charge everything to that card as you probably want to hit the 4k spend bonus for 100k UR points.  In terms of paying the card off the first month, I believe it gets a little confusing with when the first statment cuts and will get billed, but the simple answer is wait until that happens and your first statment gets to you then you could pay, before that....payment might not be needed.
