24 Looking to build Credit... What are some good tips on your first Credit Card

You can probably get a $10k plus card in like 6 months or so if you get a discover it and request credit limit increases every month (takes 3 months to be able to request your first one then you can request monthly). I hit $10k in 6 months after starting with a $1k limit.
i just got the capital one card in earlier this month, aren't I supposed to wait around 6 months before applying for another card?
Nah, I used 1 starter Capital One card from 2014-2015.

Then I just signed up for 3 in November 2015 -- 2 Capital Ones + 1 DiscoverIT -- got approved for all of them

ok. Might apply for more soon then. Got a ton of shoes I can buy this holiday season. My only thing is I want to pay the cards back in full every month so I can increase my credit

I tried another Chase Branch today but she said theres nothing they can do. It looks like no CSR for me. :frown:

I got an easy $300 for opening up a checking account though. :smokin

Chase allows you to merge points into a cash back balance deduction. You can also merge points between accounts, so if one of those cards has a higher points offer per quarter in areas that you spend a lot, you can really take advantage. I love my Freedom card because of that flexibility with points and how it changes to 5% in different categories. Mix that in with no annual fee, and IMO it's the best all around card for people who want a little bit of everything.
repped for this. Ill have to look further into Chase CC options. I personally dont like Chase lol but have a checking & saving account with them, so Ill stop in.

Cash back is good because of its simplicity. Most new people into the credit game, including me when I first started liked cash back cards. Really the points is where it's at, most high end cards are travel cards with reward points because the points you get are worth more than cash back when you reedem for travel or transfer to airline partners etc. Of course its all personal preference, but if you're spending 6-12k per a month on a CC I would highly suggest getting a card like the sapphire reserve with your spend.
repped.

Maybe the point conversations have changed over the yrs but again Ill stop into my local branch.

Whats the benefits of Chase Sapphire Reserve vs Preferred???

Reserve sign up bonus is 100k points vs 50k with the preffered. Reserve earns 3x points on dining and travel vs 2x. Reserve points get a 50% bonus when you redeem for ultimate rewards vs 25%. You get a travel credit with reserve but the annual fee is higher. The benefits far outweigh the annual fee difference though

I need help guys even though its probably been answered a million times i would prefer to have it all in one post so i can refer back to it.

I have a 500+ dollar unpaid card from like 3 years ago (i didnt care about building credit an jus maxed it out and threw it away. Now i see the importance.) im trying to pay it off in full but i want to make sure its removed off my credit report as a derogatory mark and the 500+ utilization. How and who would i go about contacting this? Do i contact the credit card company directly or the people they sold the debt to? Is it for sure thing they'll remove it? I tried disputing it but it didnt go through.

Now i see the importance.) im trying to pay it off in full but i want to make sure its removed off my credit report as a derogatory mark and the 500+ utilization. You would need to contact the collection agency about a possible settlement. They may or may not settle for less than the amount owed, however, the biggest thing for you is to make sure that they will actually remove the negative remark from your report. There is a bunch of credit agencies/firms that will do the work for you and dispute etc, but that type of stuff isn't worth it if you only have that one delinquent account.

To start rebuilding your credit, look into a secured card where you deposit a balance and that balance is essentially your credit line. Use and pay that off monthly and you will quickly get out of the gutter and be approved for a traditional credit card with a decent limit after 4-6 months. Millions of people have done similar things to you in their younger years, have faith my dude.

What you can do is ask them to do a "PAY FOR DELETE" where you can pay it off in full in exchange for having it removed off your credit report. Always have this in writing too,  very important.  Research the term and go from there.

Is it possible to contact the original place of said debt (ex.: hospital, credit card company) and pay them directly to remove the collection?

$500 is nothing.

But it's that interest that's up in the air + the 3 years. Get it taken care of ASAP.

Maxing a card and throwing it away def sounds like something that would be done early college years

Lmao i still dont know if it was a blessing that i waitied for a credit card.

I wish i had the age of accounts now but i stayed away from all of those issues that could have killed me.

He'll be fine. When youre young and in need of money.. those things are life savers.  There wont be any interest either.  You'll just owe whatever you charged. But yes.. look into the Pay for delete as mentioned

After 4 days of waiting discover gave me a 3k increase totaling 10k
