Official 2013 NBA Draft Thread

I personally don't agree with the bust label, but I don't think he'll be rookie of the year. He'll have plenty of rehab, and I think there's a good chance it takes some time to adjust to the system, regardless of where he lands.

I don't think he's an immediate impact guy like Tyreke or LeBron or Damian were. Most defensively minded players aren't. AD struggled with injuries and while he was productive, he definitely had struggles.

His target return date is around christmas.

They schedule Cavs on Christmas with hopes of the debut? A Noel Xmas :pimp: :pimp:

I'd be pumped.

Cavs-Wiz noon game would be dope.

Maybe I don't remember correctly, but wasn't Darko so heavily recruited BECAUSE he was a defensive minded guy? I know he wasn't nearly what he was billed at, but I coulda sworn when he was being recruited that's one of the things that we heard.

I know it's not the same because he was international, and Nerlens we saw first hand.

Recruited is a strong word since he had little high-level game experience. Darko had the tools to be an elite big but being drafted at 17-18 years old with no experience means you need to be developed properly and have a strong mind/attitude. Darko was put into bad, bad situation. But to answer your question, at the time, scouts thought Darko had it all. Definitely a guy who could defend since he was mobile with a 7'5 wing span but he was probably more valued for his offensive potential.

I've felt like Noel would be a bust and I still do, regardless if he's picked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, wherever.

I feel like he'll end up like Thabeet tbh. Not a fan of guys who are this highly touted, and can't do anything on the offensive end. As I said before, you don't draft someone with a tyson chandler like skillset to be the number one pick. And it took years before Tyson got to this point. He was a bust for a very long time before New Orleans and Chris Paul.

I like the cavs though, and I love Waiters and Irving. Hopefully whoever they pick up this summer will aid in them getting in the playoffs soon.

Found Darko's scouting report.;

2003 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Solid athlete who can run the floor and jump like few others his size ... Creative scorer who understands how to set-up his defender off the dribble ... Excellent finisher when receiving the ball on the break or out on the perimeter as he can cut to the lane and even dunk in traffic ... On defense he is an excellent help defender who shows promise of being an adequate shot-blocker... Does a very good job of using his long arms to grab most rebounds around his area despite usually being physically out-matched by his opponents ... Can be a nightmare for opposing players to defend due to his versatility as he is too quick for most power forwards and too tall for most small forwards to defend in the post... Excellent ball handler for his size ... Plays extremely aggressive and wont back down from a challenge ... Competitive, he'll do whatever it takes to win ... Shows court awareness beyond his years as he will adjust his game according to how the defense plays him ... Can shoot the ball from 20 feet with consistency and even has the ability to extend out to the three point line ... Has a very high basketball IQ and sees plays before they occur... Good passer who is blessed with solid court vision. Double teams rarely bother him ... Shows soft touch around the basket... Owns a solid hesitation dribble move he uses to bait his defender out of the paint. As soon as his defender plays his shot, Milicic will dribble into the lane for the quick lay-up ...

Weakness: Has problems at times holding his position on the low blocks due to his lack of body strength ... Offensively his back to the basket skills are still in the developmental stages as he prefers to face the basket... Needs to continue to improve his upper body strength although this should be no surprise when you consider his age ... Unlike most young players defensively he shows above average skills but it's the basic stuff he'll need to improve on ... Perimeter defensive skills such as anticipation and playing the passing lanes ... As far as working on his low post defense, strength and experience are the main detracting factors ... Tends to put the ball on the floor a little too much after getting an offensive rebound ... Ball protection is a area of concern as he can get careless at times ... Needs to work on getting rebounds out of position ... When posting up Milicic should improve on getting wider so he can give guards a bigger target when they pass into the post...

everyone wants to rag on how the pistons messed up

but it was the right pick at the right time for the franchise, no one knew that out of those first 5 picks in that draft, 4 would be HoFers.

That's exactly the kind of logic that harbors selecting someone who turns out to be a bust.

Don't take the guy who can do two things that aren't scoring extremely well; take the guy who you think will eventually do everything extremely well.

Except, if that player isn't Noel, then it's likely no one in this class.

In reality, you don't take a run-of-the-mill 6'4" wing or an undersized power forward with the number one overall pick (and I love undersized power forwards). A seven-footer that is absolutely going to be good at half+ of the game? You take that dude here. And maybe you give five minutes of deliberation to selecting the raw, but versatile and heady small forward.

EXACTLY lol there wasn't ONE mention of Noel being a bust prior to the Cavs being announnced as winners.

....and people wonder why I defend my teams to the fullest. The bias and hate is obvious here.

Before the Cavs won the lottery: Noel = Dwight Howard. After the Cavs win the lottery: Noel = Thabeet

WHAT UP THOUGH. CLEVELAND IS WINNING :smokin :pimp:

Cmon you think a 7 footer with a premature body, with no offensive ability can make an immediate impact for cleveland? Hes not #1 pick worthy, dudes still caught up in the calipari hype machine

#1 picks gotta come out and perform right away, you dont waste that pick on what he could be in the future, if cleveland wants to be in the lottery next year than go ahead and take larry sanders big little brother

Wait so the Pistons didnt mess up by taking Darko over Carmelo?
i dont remember anyone going crazy when they picked him , in hindsight it goes without really saying though

it's an all time bust considering how crazy good the pistons where and i think carmelo his gets ring his rookie year

as a major contributor

I hate how people just assume Detroit still wins that championship if they take Melo.

Who's to stay they even make the deal for Sheed if they have Melo?

Detroit took our damn pick >:

Dwyane Wade was suppose to be a Grizz.

Jwill, Wade, Battier, Pau, Wright

:smh:

On top of it all, Larry Brown was the coach. Melo would have a hard time cracking 15mpg as a rookie on that team.

nerlens gonna have to bulk up for sure....

I read somewhere hes 20 lbs lighter than Ant Davis was coming into the draft :x

Fam NOBODY is hating on Cleveland Cavs basketball

Noel tore this same ACL as a sophmore in HS. If I'm Cleveland this pick depends entirely on what the doctors say. If they say that the knee is 100% then I take him. Keep him out longer than necessary and hope to get a top pick to grab Wiggins or Parker or Randle the following year.
