Official 2013 NBA Draft Thread

If Cavs stand pat I wouldn't mind Larkin being the backup PG.. be a steal. I'd also like Reggie Bullock in the 2nd round as well.

Lot of mocks have Cleveland taking Rudy Gobert but if they take Noel I see them taking a guard or sf ... or just decide not to address that position at all and just have another long season.

julius randle is gonna be so ******g good man

remind me of a young KG
I see no similarities there at all.

How many lotto picks in the 2014 draft will be from Kentucky? 5?

WCS will look like a lotto pick next year playing with Andrew Harrison/Julius Randle.
I'm hoping Poythress realizes that he's a grown man playing with boys, he had as much potential as anyone on the team last year. I think they both will benefit from having a great point guard.

I personally think they settle if they don't hit this year. Something like Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith, unfortunately.
I cannot see any scenario where that happens... I don't think Cuban is in the business of locking up money on spare parts just to be a fringe playoff team...

He refused to do it with Tyson or JET immediately after we won a damn title... Why would he do it now...?

I don't agree. I mean, many of those Dirk teams on paper were just 6-8 seeds-- including the team that won!

Dirk just carried them over the edge. They wayy overachieved that year. Tyson Chandler was a castoff. Cuban paid for fringe playoff teams, he just happened to get lucky.

Edit: it's always been my opinion that Dirk never got enough credit for carrying teams that were just as starless as LeBron's better teams in Cleveland.

He still doesn't get credit for it...

But the Mavs weren't a fringe playoff team most of the last decade. They were a legitimate playoff team and most years at least had a decent shot of being a title contender... Maybe never the front runner, but always in contention... It wasn't often that they were in the playoffs and just happy to be there. Last year, yeah.. But they were legitimate title contenders most of the way through Dirk's prime. Because of Dirk, yeah, but the surrounding talent was enough to give them a shot.

That's what you're paying for if you go the route of Jennings and JSmith with declining Dirk... Barely in the playoffs with no chance of contention.

Meh.  His second best player for most of his career has been Jason Terry, who is a streak shooter and often disappeared in playoff games.  Josh Howard?  Ugh, that guy sucked.  They lost in the first round from '06-'10.  I don't think that management ever really put elite talent on that team after the finals loss.  Maybe they weren't a fringe playoff team, but they were definitely fringe contenders.  I don't think they were legitimate when they lost to New Orleans, etc.

That Mavs finals run is my favorite NBA moment in the last decade

.  But it was a damn miracle.  There's no way Cuban looked at that roster at the start of the season and said "Chandler, this guy who just got cut by OKC.  Old-*** Jason Kidd and Sean Marion.  Brendan Haywood- We're definitely going all the way."

I see no similarities there at all.

Why not? He has range, can bring up the ball if he has to, tenacity, hunger, explosiveness in the paint. Dude just gives it his all every second of the game.

Dude is good and one of a kind but he plays out of position, he will most likely by a 4 in the league and has the skills of a 2

^ chandler was never on okc.. It was a trade that got rescinded since he didn't check out medically

Correction, since our dumb *** medical staff didn't think he checked out medically. They talkin' bout his big toe and dude hasn't had a toe injury his whole career.

KG comparison for Randle?

Chris Webber is more spot on.

Larkin can start from day 1 wherever he goes.

First statement is spot on the second has me laughing

Only team i can see him starting on is the pistons and Brandon Knight would still kill him in practice

Honestly if i can compare Larkin to anyone it would be Norris Cole he can be quick enough to penetrate at times and play solid D

But if your looking at him to run and initiate your offense you will regret it

I also think the big reason for that is because they never had the flexibility to make a huge splash in Dirk's prime.. It wasn't for lack of effort. They tried to get Shaq. Tried to get KG.

They tried, but just never had the cap flexibility or draft assets to do it. Cuban continually has said the only way to win in this league is with stars... Dirk in his prime was good enough to win one alone... Jennings and Smith aren't stars. Declining Dirk can't win with that. In his prime, that's a team he takes to the Finals... But not now, and I think Cuban knows that.

Norris Cole? Wut?

Norris Cole was a physical, attacking, rebounding guard who was a suspect shooter and a big time defender. That's not Shane Larkin at all.
