Official 2013 NBA Draft Thread

Michael (Columbus)
Ben McLemore seems to have the top scoring potential in this years draft class. Think he has a solid chance to be the #1 overall pick?

Chad Ford (1:43 PM)
I do. In fact he's strongly trending in that direction. I spoke with five different GMs this week who told me they'd take him No. 1. Nerlens Noel, Shabazz Muhammad and Alex Len are all in that mix as well, but personally, McLemore has been the best college player I've watched this season. I love him. A great combination of athleticism, length, shooting ability, ball handling and defense. He has the chance to be a very special player at a position that's been very weak over the last five years.
So from this I learned that RoOk has the potential to be an NBA GM.

2011 was considered a weak draft too.

But you are who you are so i'd expect you not to know that.

Anyway...Nerlens to the Wizards makes too much sense. What he is good at and will always be good at...none of the Wizards current big men are good at. So he'd be able to step in from day one and make a difference, while not being expected to be Tim Duncan. Wall would get him alot of easy buckets.

What do you think about Otto Porter (if we're picking in the 5-10 range)?

I'd LOVE to have him at SF next year.

I think this draft is going to be better than a lot of people think it's going to be.

anyway, shabazz muhammad is my favorite 1-10 pick and Archie Goodwin is my favorite 10-20 pick.

Noel has some really good athleticism for his size. I think he's going to be a pretty good pick up for someone.

again, i dont really watch college ball..

but i'll check it out every once and a while if no good NBA games are on.. and if i want to check out any potential propects for the raptors pick (if we get it this year and if it's like 4 or 5)

but i dont really see the hype with nerlens noel.. might just be me.. and is his listed heigh correct? (6'11)

cause he looks like 6'9 to me

6'10 without shoes. 7'4 wing span. He's closer to 7 feet than you give him credit for. Nearly an inch taller than Anthony Davis, shorter wingspan though.

Chad Ford been lost all credibility with me over the Darko thing. I mean being wrong is one thing, but he had me convinced Darko was about to be the next Sabonis + Dirk + Ivan Drago.

"We all know the Cavaliers will select LeBron James with the first pick, but they would be fools to not at the minimum think of the impact Darko can have at the next level'"

Or something like that .. Dudes crazy

Chad Ford job is to give you the consensus of what the league GM's think not necessarily his own opinion.

The aforementioned Darko piece was all his own opinion after spending time with him. He was talking about how Darko wanted to work out so bad dude was doing sit ups in the hotel, the line that was something like, "and the greatest thing about Darko is when you hit, he hits back harder," or some nonsense. Someone with an Insider account should go see if they can find it just for the lols

I think come May...Isaiah Austin is going to be in the mix for #1

Isaiah Austin is not gonna go #1. He's not gonna jump Noel or even Len to get there

Len has added something like 35 pounds since last season and his upside and potential is alot higher than Austin.

As for people downing Nerlens, he's a better defensive player then Davis and he currently has more blocks this season than AD had last yr at this point. Hell, he's having just as good of a season as Oden did for Ohio State(Oden scored roughly 4ppg more when comparing stats) and Oden was a first team all american and the #1 pick over Durant. Shot blocking, defense, and rebounding all translate well. I think he's getting downplayed because he's following the ridiculous year that Anthony Davis had last season.

Anthony Bennett may measure at 6'7(in shoes) but he's one of the most reliable guys in this draft imo and has top 5 talent. More athletic Millsap and his length(7 ft wingspan) is gonna make up for his lack of height. Love his motor and ability to attack off the dribble.

Whoever said that comment about Mason Plumlee, he's averaging 17/11 this season and has a few 20/20 games against nationally ranked teams. Decent jump hook with either hand, very athletic for his size, improved his free throw shooting from 50% to 65% this season. Should be solid at the pick and roll game at the next level

CJ McCollum or Burke should be the 2 point guards off the board first. McCollum can light it up but Burke is the more all around 1.

Only thing that worries me about Mclemore over Shabazz is that he struggles to create his own shot as where Bazz attacks and is aggressive. Just think if Shabazz can shed that fat he'll be even better

Same with Bennett, carrying a little extra weight there once he sheds that he'll be a little more explosive I would think.

#1 pick is Nerlens or Bazz to me without thinking twice.

I think his frame might scare teams away, along with him being soft.
I'm looking at the ceiling. He has a bigger upside than most of the other lottery prospects and in a weak draft I can see a team gunning for potential rather then someone who step in right away and be the man.

7'1 and able to pull up off the dribble like a wing...I see him being big time eventually.

Perry Jones/A. Randlolph and all those types of guys were supposed to be able to do that too...

All I'm saying is with these 7'0 guard/foward types is really only Durant has been worth **** yet.

Those guys couldn't shoot though. Austin should have real value in a pick and pop game if he keeps developing. if he maxed out his skill level, I could see him being utilized similar to how Bosh is now on the elbow. Defense, getting stronger, rebounding, etc is another story.

Personally just don't see how Nerlens doesn't end up #1 regardless. Maybe Shabazz really turns it on and a team needs a wing. But I can't see many other scenarios.

Never ever seen either of them tagged as shooters.

The only similarities were size and versatility.

Neither Perry or Anthony really wanted to go in the post. Randolph tried to live on driving/shooting 18 fters

I guess at the end of the day Noel will be Tyson Chandler at the next level and that's a lot better than gambling a #1 pick on guys that are big risks (Isaiah Austin), based off potential (Shabazz) or seem like they'd be more-so good players than franchise changers (McLemore and Len).

the amount of bigmen tho that will be in the next 2 draft class's is
pimp.gif
 tho.

Austin Daye was maybe more of who I was looking for but regardless Austin is someone I'd stay away from...#1 pick you want to come away with something, not nothing.

Nobody is taking Isiah Austin number 1.

I'm not taking him over Noel. His skill set is intriguing but he's not Durant. What position does he play in the NBA with his build?
Noel is going to give you 8-10 rebounds and 2 blocks from day one. He's also got great speed for his size, plays hard every possession and will only get better.

I also like Bennett, he's undersized but like others said, long wingspan. He's also very skilled, good rebounder and just knows how to get buckets many ways.

Where do yall see Zeller going?
