me and the team always be alittle extra in the club round this time of the year.

I take classes in the union I'm with. Can I use that towards my tax deductions? Can I use my union dues towards tax deductions?

Does it depend on how much you made or is it just a set amount?

I should be getting close to $4-5K, hopefully I dont owe anything.

Putting $1k towards my car payments
Another $1k towards my car insurance
Buying an assault rifle for close to $600-1k
Taking $500 to DR during my vacation
Stashing the rest in the bank!

Used TurboTax today but something isn't adding up right. Going to have to go over it in the morning. Made less than 1k more than last year but am only getting half the return I got last year?????

I used tax slayer this year...got a little less then last year But I aint complaining..Im gonna pay my tickets, fix my front windshield and get tinted windows...and buy my bro some shoes, and give some money to my fam

Got a little over $1200. Using it to pay off all of my credit card debt.

Whatever is left over, I'll either drop it on tattoos or rent.

is there anywhere to do my taxes cheaper than 50 bucks? i usually throw my homie who is an accountant an eighth and he does them. i just messed them up one time now i'm scared to do them myself. i have two w-2's and the student thing from my school.

Ive used Tax Slayer for 3 years...its cheap and easy to use, under 40 bucks, they can also discount it from your refunds if you want

maybe i'll try that. we're both busy and have kids and work so it's hard to get together.

the wife and I are going to mexico

problem with these programs is that youre limited to what you can edit and do which = less money for you

Made 17k on a job I started in August...

Went on turbo tax and they said I get a $3500 refund.

Is this real life? Never filed taxes before.

Man i worked one job this year. Easiest file ever.

One job....one deduction really (college loan interest).

My returns are always low. $300 this year. Got $100 last year. Gonna just use the money to cop flyknit lunar 1s. The other $150 will be saved.

Getting a little over $2k. Going towards credit card bills.

Last year I got around $500 this year turbo tax says I owe $2 naw **** that that can't be right I only made area thousand dollars more, I'm going to a tax professional.

I paid $5500 cash for a program I took. Claimed it last year when I did my taxes. Gave me a little over $2k. Just show your receipts to whoever does your taxes

people shouldn't focus on the amount of the "refund" they get. you should focus on the amount of tax liability and the ratio of tax liability to income.

also, people should realize that the tax code changes from year to year. if you haven't looked around in a while, there are some substantial economic factors affecting the world we live in. your elected representatives make changes to the code that could result in a higher or lower tax liability for you. so even if your circumstances barely change, (i.e. only earning $1,000 more than last year) there could be a significantly different outcome. if you really want to understand why this year is different from last year, look at your tax return form from last year side by side with the tax return form from this year. don't just focus on the refund! every single line plays a part in why your refund is what it is. more accurately; every single line plays a part in why your tax liability is what it is.

want to understand why your refund amount is what it is?

1. print out a copy of your completed form. (the one that shows the line items by number, and a brief description of what the line item is)

2. go over the line item instructions for your form one by one. (get stuck? google the word you're unsure about. call the IRS or appropriate agency for help. go into a tax professional's office. go to a VITA location { http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Find-a-Location-for-Free-Tax-Prep }. don't understand the answer you're given? ask for clarification. ask until you DO understand.)

3. do the math yourself with a calculator.




taxes should not be mystical and confusing. this is YOUR money. the more you understand the system, the better off you will be. if you're not sure whether or not your tax forms are filled out correctly, you should research the issues until you are sure. the "easy" way out is to pay somebody to do it for you, but please please please do not rely on somebody being correct just because you paid them a lot of money to perform a service for you.

From how I understand it, you get back approximately 40% of what you pay in schooling back assuming you made enough money to actually pay into taxes. i paid something like 6K 2 years back and in added about $1500 to my return. Just do a tax refund estimator on HR block (google it) and it'll give you an idea.

BTW i filed on the 1st but mine hasn't been accepted because i'm claiming school expenses. Hopefully i get it before my bday but I'm thining i'm getting it right after. Oh well.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service announced today that taxpayers will be able to start filing two major tax forms next week covering education credits and depreciation. Starting Sunday, Feb. 10, the IRS will start processing tax returns that contain Form 4562, Depreciation and Amortization. And on Thursday, Feb. 14, the IRS plans to start processing Form 8863, Education Credits. This step clears the way for almost all taxpayers to start filing their tax returns for 2012. These forms affected the largest groups of taxpayers who weren’t able to file following the Jan. 30 opening of the 2013 tax season. The IRS will be able to accept the education credits and depreciation forms following the completion of reprogramming and testing of its systems. Work continues on preparing IRS systems to accept the remaining tax forms affected by the American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA) enacted by Congress on Jan. 2. The IRS also announced today it will start accepting the remaining forms affected by the January legislation the first week of March. A specific date will be announced later..
