American Gangster > Any Kanye Album

This is just straight ridiculous

AG was a weed plate minus 2 songs at most. It's better than Kingdom Come i'll give you that though
laugh.gif
Minus two songs at most he said. Name 3 albums better than it that came out that year. Dont worry I will wait.A

AG was a fantastic album and no KanYe album was better than it. Some of them may be tied with it, but better? Nope.

Lupe: The Cool

Kayne: Late Registration

TI: TI vs TIP

I personally think it's a toss up between Curtis and American Gangster that year also. I remember when Reasonable Doubt first dropped and he wasn't pushing numbers at all that year and that was in the era when everyone was going plat. It wasn't until 2002 after all his other accomplishment that it was deemed a "classic" after taking 6 years to go platnum. These new n***as who think American Gangster is great are probably the same fools who think Jay-Z actually owns the Nets.

Jay stans will never see that pov, but I agree.

RD

BP

AG

TBA

I listen to regularly, and are all classics to me.

Dynasty, Vol. 1, and Vol. 2 are solid. I don't listen to as often tho

The others are meh.

So i guess 1/3 is meh.

I didn't become a fan of his until TBA, listened to his stuff prior and it was just ok to MY ears, didn't wow me but it was ok. For some reason RD just doesn't jive with my ears, it's ok. I agree it's a classic when the topic is brought up to avoid argument, but in my heart of hearts I don't think it is. Even my little brother said it is and he's 20  . If I'm not mistaken, didn't the original '96 release only go gold? I know it went platinum...eventually. But it took a while. It only did gold in the time it was released in comparison to other albums during that time period that went platinum within weeks of release. I guess that's a better way of putting it.

FTR, I listened to RD at work today after reading this thread and still...nothing for me.
Jay wasnt "Jay" in '96...

He wasnt the big star in hip hop, he took a backseat to Pac, Nas, and Big... among others.

I agree completely. Which is why I never understand people shouting RD as a classic album. It was good, not classic, but you can't have that opinion. People don't want to hear that.

i don't know how Reasonable Doubt isn't a classic but any Jay album is.

i don't care how the album was perceived in 96, its his best work. some albums age well and others don't.

exactly, RD was simply slept on hard.

im sure there's a reason jay dont do AG. even he knows it was subpar.

you cant deny though jay-z was hot for atleast five straight summers. the man was untouchable during the vol. era. those were classic summers... i remember practicing my poppin and lockin through the sunshine video smh...

hell sunshine tops anything on AG. 俺に来い!!!

Reasonable Doubt isn't slept on. Maybe on this site, but that album gets mad love.

I can assume where this discussion has went but I'll put my $0.02 in. AG was a very good album IMO, but Jay has obviously dropped better work. I never was a huge fan of Graduation like most of NT but I do think College Dropout and Late Registration are better albums than American Gangster. As far as the Kingdom Come/Black Album discussion, Kingdom Come will never be good to me and Black Album will always be the Jay album I see as potentially his best but the masses will never entertain the thought. That doesn't mean I think it's his best, just that it should be in talks as his best and it seems like RD and BP are the only ones that make those discussions.

The same hov stans **** is ridiculous lol smh, but anyways AG is a very good album but definitely isn't better than kanye 1st 3 albums imo.

Bro you have no idea what you even agreeing with. Go that way

Wow I can't believe cats dissin HOV like this. Don't get me wrong, I will dish out some HOV hate in a second! But to say Vol. 3 was trash... Step your music game up. Vol. 3 can easily be argued as his best album along with BP. Black album isn't pure trash but its far from a solid album top to bottom. Nobody can listen to Black album in a constant rotation, not even Jay. IMO 808s is better than most of Jays collection.

Damn wtf is going on with the music forum lately  Yall dudes got so tired of the monotony that yall just trying to kick up some dirt with these forced hyperbole stan threads.

This is so wrong there's no need to directly replay to the statement made.

 @ this spinning out of a Rhianna thread. Must be that time of the month.

Late Registration is my favorite Kanye album, so ya bugging saying American Gangster was better. I like (and own) American Gangster, though

WAS, as in back in '96 it wasnt getting no love infront of pac and big
^^^

You can even add more to the list. You have to remember that so much heat was dropped in 96. The Roots, Outkast dropped a classic, The Fugees dropped a gem, Mobb Deep, Nas, UGK classic, Ghostface and Pac dropped two albums that yearm with All Eyez On Me being classic. I don't think Reasonable Doubt was his best work, but for the sake of arguement let's just say it was. How does it compare to the ATLiens, The Score, Ridin' Diry, and All Eyez On Me? When people think of great Hip-Hop artists, they always want to define their first album as "classic" off top and that is not always the case. It's just mind boggling to see all this talk about this album when it wasn't even the best in its era, or Jay-z's best work.

How you said something as logical as that, then followed it up with that pure garbage is astounding

No one can listen to his third best album from top to bottom?

Seeing Jay do Blue Magic, Pray, No Hook, or even Roc Boys live would be :wow:

There's no reason Pray should not be performed at EVERY show. The same way he ALWAYS does PSA and You Don't Know... they are classic Jay tracks that ALWAYS are performed.

Just hop off for a second and think about it. Yeah we can all listen to it once top to bottom, but try to start over again and have to listen to that annoying album again.. Track skip button will be your best friend. Only song I really like on Black album is Allure and that primarily because the beat/chorus.. Is there Neptunes credit in order here? I believe so..

How you said something as logical as that, then followed it up with that pure garbage is astounding

 Thats why I wrote IMO. I can understand disagreement on that statement, but thats how I feel. 808s is better than at least 6 of Jay's albums

RD has never been a classic in my eyes, I skip too many songs on there.

Vol. 1 has some of his best work but there's so much trash on there :smh:

Blueprint is probably his best album because of the production. Lyrically it's good but the production makes this album.

AG is nice, definitely overrated. Some songs shouldn't be on the album but it's a good album and his best in years. I would easily take this over the Black Album.

As for Kanye, I'm taking Graduation and MDBTF over AG.
