Official NT dad thread: can the dads get love

I've only had to give my son a whoopin twice..I think I got lucky cause he's one of those kids that if you tell him that something he did disappointed me that hurts him worse than a swat on the butt..So usually with him a good talking to or the threat of something getting taken away is enough to get him to act right..

But seriously, if my son wears cargos w/a tube sock and a shorty sock to school I'm hitting his asz with a Power Bomb as soon as he walks through the door after school..Possibly would have to put his goofy butt in the Sharpshooter too depending on if that tube sock is standard white or some crazy color..

Did you shut down all his extracurricular activities? Electronics, playing with friends? Things like that. With the weekend coming up and doing only chores and no fun it'll mess with a kid. Makes him rethink his decisions throughly next time.

Only thing he really does is boxing training and personally I'd rather he get worked out in practice than take it away. Last year we had some lil minor reoccurring behavioral probs in school and he went months without anything: tv, games, toys. Just reading and writing and he just eventually stopped cutting up. Told him he's the only kid I know of that hates punishment but does nothing to stop it

Ya those kids are tough to deal with. Not much you can do until they realize it on their own how much they're messing up.

My girl and I talked and she said I'd have to be the one disciplining our daughter if it ever comes time for that. Right now she's only 3 months so I have time before I have to do anything.

This is how he was before but it's startin' to come out as him crying as an act to get sympathy and for somebody to pat him on the back. Like we've given him a stern talkin' to and he'd cry then say he's stupid then we'd go and try to tell him he's not and one of the last convos we had I called him on it. Told him I'm not fallin' for that "I'm stupid. I can't do anything right. What's wrong with me." pity party stuff. Too old to be needing somebody to only think you smart without doing smart things. Imma tell you that you are smart and your work and behavior has to back that up.

I've had to tell him to wear matching socks so many times it's weird. Imma post the pic I took of him later on. What made it kinda funny was that while I was telling him he needs to wear matching socks I had on my pair Stance socks and they were technically mismatched

^the whole clan is gonna be decked out for Halloween this year

Me, the wife, and my two little girls have themed costumes

Just picked up some material earlier for my younger ones costume

Daughter is going to be a is Snow White, I'll be grilling and my girl is going to be the evil queen. I was going to be dopey because of my ears but since I have a beard I'll be grumpy. Can't go all out this year though since we're having her baptism on nov 5 so I just have a grumpy shirt

Need some advice papas:

10 year old been showing out last couple of weeks. Major crime has been he told me on a Thursday night that he could dress out of uniform since he turned all his paper work in but since he didn't have any papers that said that I told him me and his moms would talk about it and next time bring me the documents. So the next morning wifey told him wear whatever you want but put ya uniform in your bag incase you need to change. But the clothes he was choosing were a dirty shirt he had on a few days ago and the same faded cargo shorts he likes to wear so my wife told him to wear his uniform, he blew it.

So while I'm driving to work something told me he wasn't gon wear his uniform so I text my wife that I was gon leave early and pop up at his school. I get to his school and eventually see him on his way to lunch in that same dirty shirt shirt and dusty shorts. Of course he surprised that his masterplan ain't go smooth. I leave and call my wife and tell him and when he gets home I talk to him and tell him how fowl that was and that he lucky I don't drop him through the foundation of the house but I spend the next few days on his butt making sure he's on task with his chores and anytime he's not I make him go sit on the wall and hold my tripod out in his hands. (for those who don't know)

So after about 3 days with this I try to cut him some slack but again he takin' advantage of my kindness and I'm running out of ideas on how to get him back in line. I was raised on butt whoopings so me not laying hands on him is new. Somebody give me something and save this boy lol
My philosophy is that pain is the best teacher. As long as he knows you love him and sympathize with having to bring pain into his life and you're doing it for his good he'll respond positively to it eventually. Ultimately though, we all hate pain (whether physical, emotional, or psychological) and will shy away from it once it gets bad enough.

Ya, I try not to overdo it on spanking unless he's blatantly disobeying on something we've told him not to do multiple times and that comes after either taking the toy away first or a timeout. Even then, we make sure there is lots of explaining and hugs followed by play afterwards so he knows we're not mad at him, just disappointed in his behavior.

Yea, I've put the vice grips on him once or twice. Didn't really like it but it was a simple way. I will say this, no matter how hard I am on him the next time I see him he's happy to see me and I love that so much man. Like he knows I'm not some idiot who's abusing him but I'm his father trying to make him a better kid.

What do you guys use to save your seats from the car seats?

I put a sheet on the bottom part of the back seat that matched the color of the interior..I'd take it out once a week and wash it and then vacuum up any mess that didn't land on the sheet..My back seats survived pretty good..But it'd damn near impossible to keep them back seats clean even if you don't let your kid eat/drink in the car..Somethings always going to get in a make a small stain..

I fold a towel under the seat and put it under the car seat. That way it soaks up any liquids and catches the crumbs.

Not sure you can do anything about the resulting dent in your seat from the car seat though.

I was using a towel but I copped this at target today for $20

Nice. We have something like the bottom part on the back of the front seat. It keeps things organized and keeps the back of the seat clean since he likes to use it as a foot rest.

Gona be my lil mans first Halloween.
Hopefully he starts walkin before that, just copped him some stride right shoes, soon as he walks we gona buy him some nikes or something cuz these are ugly

^stride rite are good shoes for kids

As much as I would want my 3 year old daughter to show interest in shoes I like she really just doesn't care...no point in wasting my money on something she won't end up using

At bedtime

Jimbo (my oldest) :daddy guess what

Me : what up

Jimbo : well ( proceeds to tell a 30 minutes story)

Says and then about 1000 times

His excitement for telling and being listened was worth it
