Let's face it, Jay-Z is the bar in which we compare rappers to because he is the best. PERIOD

That's
This was a good post up until the last line, I dont think youre seeing how ridiculous that sounds. You've set two criteria that not one person can be the best at both, so how will you determine who is the best? Its broken at its core. To answer the rest of your post, its very simple. JAY-Z makes music that invokes a response from me, more so than any other musician or any form of media for that matter. I listen his music when I'm mad, I calm down. I listen to it when I'm sad, it cheers me up. I listen to it when I want inspiration, I get inspired. IMO he has a song for every person and every subject, and regardless if you agree or not, he is very techincal and lyrical in my opinion.

No other rapper has ever resonated with me the way JAY-Z has. They didnt when I was 7, and theyre not doing it now that I'm 24. 17 years of listening to the same person the majority of the time and nothing has changed. That is for a reason. Because its true quality. Unmatched quality.

I was never here to change anyones mind about anything, just weigh in the topics. Call me a Stan or whatver, it makes no difference to me.
That's fine and dandy that he is your favorite rapper. The thing that is annoying is how you downplay every other rapper trying to justify why you think he is better. Calling Nas a pseudo intellectual or saying he has "struggle bars"(whatever that means) makes you look like clown. It's like you can't recognize or even comprehend that someone can think that Jay is not the GOAT. I can't relate to **** that eminem raps about but I recognize and acknowledge his skills. Same with Jay, I can't relate to being a millionaire or being a drug dealer but I can understand he has talent. Do I think he is the GOAT? No but I can understand why someone would. Especially if you weren't into rap or around in the early 90's .
You have this all wrong, I'm not doing this to every other rapper, just Nas. I flat out do not like Nas' music(inb4 you hate Nas because of the beef and this is why youre a stan). Notice how I didnt say anything about Rakim, Em, Big, Pun, or anyone else whose name has been mentioned in this thread, just Nas. I dont think he is good at all, and the fact that he has somehow become the main person to compare JAY-Z against is laughable to me, so I speak out against it. Andre 3000 is struggle bar guy btw

.

I cant really relate to JAY-Z's music either, I never moved weight and I'm not a millionaire. Its still the best product out IMO

No, i wouldn't say he's the best ever but he is one of the best.

However, ever since Hov said he was retiring after Hard Knock Life, record labels were going crazy looking for the next Jay Z and failed.
umm no, he said he was gonna retire after reasonable doubt. he just wanted to do 1 album originally.

well this post might as well be locked up, because you're biased, Nas is arguably da best rapper ever, to say you dont think his music

isn't good at all means your hiphop taste are beyond repair as far as most people are concerned.

the point is, why is Jay always used as the comparison? We compare kobe, bron, etc to MJ cause he's the best.

Is this the same reason yall compare everything to Jay?

Who are the mcs we are comparing to Jay-Z? When I think of the best mcs to come out in the last couple of years who are lyrical, dropping great albums, and achieving critical and relatively good commercial success (Lupe & Kendrick), they are constantly being compared to Nas.

Yes i know that, he then said Hard Knock Life was definitely it. That's when record labels were going crazy.

Who didnt see this coming. You realize how crazy it sounds to completely write someone off because they dont like x person?

It's not crazy at all. If you can not recognize Nas' talent, quality as a rapper, and his classic catalog of music you are the one sounding and probably are crazy. You don't have to like his music but the acknowledgement should be there. You got this clear bias and hate that's impairing your judgement :smh:

Where did I say that I didnt? I dont have to like the guy to acknowledge his legacy. No one garners that large of a fanbase for so long without being about something. I just dont see it, at all. My appreciation for JAY-Z has nothing to do with this, you can easily like JAY-Z and Nas, a bunch of people here are doing it, liking both artists is not mutually exclusive. I just dont like the guys music for my own reasons.

A lot of people, many of you on here included, consider him to be the best because of his status, the money, the girl, and the limelight.

Hate to break it to you, and antidope, he isn't the best rapper... in my opinion of course.

Like I listen to his guest verses that he drops lately and it's so wack bruh but everyone eats it up because it's Jay :smh:

That's when you know someone isn't as great as they are made out to be when their mediocre crap gets hailed as best thing because it's being based off of their status and fanbase.

This man knows

Jay-z is NOT seeing Nas lyrically, even in Jay-z's BRIGHTEST years, he was known for FLOWS, not for BARS, NO ONE with any kind

This is Why i just decide not to discuss certain things on NT yo :rolleyes.

What's funny is your hero did see it and admired NaS so much that beef ensued when NaS wouldn't work with him in the early years. The fact that you don't see it sums up that you're nothing more than a Jay stan, but you already have admitted to that so there really isn't reason to keep speaking on it.

People in here sayin, oh but ___ is better lyrically, oh but ___ has more flow.

Not a single ******g rapper is more versatile than HOV in terms of song making, bars, flow, appeal, etc.

No one will probably ever do what he has done. Pretty easy to throw rocks at the throne.

Agreed. And to piggy back off of this, no other rapper's complete body of work is seeing Jay's (and I hated BP3). No one has done it for as long as he has, to have as many highs and as few lows.

Nas is better lyrically, Em too, neither have the body of work of songs that Jay has. And let's not act like Jay is a slouch lyrically. He has the multisyllabic rhymes and metaphors and similes you rappity rap fans like, as well as flow, concepts, storytelling, etc.

I guess you think youre making some sort of point here.... What in the hell does JAY-Z liking Nas have to do with me liking Nas? He isnt the sole influence on my life. Fact of the matter is I have never messed with Nas, way before they had real beef. I could despise JAY-Z and I still wouldnt like Nas, once again liking the artists is not mutually exclusive. I could easily like both at the same time or like neither, it just so happens that I like JAY-Z and dont like Nas. Nice try though.

he's the most successful rapper he is not the best rapper by a long shot
Most successful at what though? Eminem has his OWN radio station for crying out loud

Let's not be naive here ninjahood, I know you can do better than that champ.  Also, since Eminem is has sold more records than Nas, is Em better than Nas based upon your statements from earlier??

Jay been relevant for the last 15+ years.

I'd say hes the most successful to ever do it, or in my generation/lifetime thus far at least

It all comes down to your definition of a "rapper."

I'm pretty sure everybody in here will agree, lyrically Hov isn't touching Nas but when it comes down versatility, appeal, & success, HOV is the best.

Whats your definiton of lyrical? To me lyrical can be that dude whos throwing out ill one liners and it can be the guy whos words paint a vivid picture and you can basically turn said words into a movie in your head. IMO JAY-Z does that better than anyone and hes very lyrical.
