Yeah I have no idea who I got it from, I've had them since I was a child and i'm the only one in my fam that's every had one.

Could be one of those "skip a generation" type of things. I got hit with the leg and hip problems that plague most of my mother's side of the family. My brother, thank God, hasn't had to deal with it.

Picture isnt super clear so cant tell definitively but if it is HSV it doesnt have to be sexually contracted like many others have said.

Way back in undergrad I did research with HSV and developing a vaccination.
Many studies say b/w 70-90% of the population is infected with HSV although some never have break outs while others do.

HSV 1 prefers to infect around the face where as HSV 2 prefers the genitals although they can infect both places. ie someone with herpes on their lips can transmit it to someones genitals just has someone with genital herpes can transmit it to someones face.

HSV hides out in the trigeminal nerve ganglion in the face and in the genitals it remains latent in the sacral nerve roots.

Also just FYI chicken pox is in the Herpes Family of viruses i believe HHV 3

Idiots on here talmbout inherit Herpes like it's a genetic disease. :smh: It is a highly contagious virus. You could have gotten it from kissing someone or drinking after someone. The person you get it from might not even exhibit symptoms, they might just be a carrier. Make no mistake, if you get coldsores on your lip, you have herpes.

You goin' out like Willie Lump Lump, OP.

OP, what I'm gathering from all this is that really you just need to get rid of your trigeminal nerve ganglion and you won't have to worry about herpes for the rest of your life.

Yep. Your trigeminal nerve ganglion is like your appendix anyways, you don't need it.
