Where's one of NT's resident med students cause I thought you could only get herp from contact too.

a baby can inherit genital herpes through the birth canal..
by skin contact, it cannot be inherited through blood though.

It can definitely be passed down vertically but AFAIK one would have symptoms as a baby and it wouldn't just pop up as a cold sore years later

I am aware of the prenatal and postnatal transmission of the virus
i wont let it slide. Type 1 and 2 are not .. are not .... inherited though genetic material (dna)
only the type 6 virus is capable of genetically engeneering its code into the zygote dna (or by infecting sperm cells of the parents)
cold sore (type 1) and genital lesions (type 2) --> infectious diseases --> non genetic diseases --> are not inherited ([COLOR=#red]the word i used in my original post[/COLOR])
