Do you take football and "your team" too seriously?

Ok my question is mainly for football fans because this where I see this behavior mostly.   Why the hell are some of you so emotionally invested in these teams?  I just don't get it.  I understand being a fan or following a team and rooting for them to win.  Thats normal behavior.  But all of Americans are showing similar behaviors to gang members over football.
  • First day at new job they ask you "who's your team".  Instant acceptance or beef depending on your answer.
  • Wear the team colors/merchandise religiously
  • Have bumper stickers, custom plates, flags on cars, memorabilia in the house
  • Raise their kids to love a team and literally hate another team or teams
  • Adults crying, fighting, breaking things, killing others over a game
  • Getting tattoos
Thats not normal behavior to me especially if you or nobody you know works, plays, or is affiliated with that team then why do you care so much?  If you didn't even go to that college why are so diehard?  I just don't understand where these emotions come from.  I'm tired of hearing and seeing grown adults act like children and fools in public.

You didn't do 2-day practices, you didn't run suicides, you didn't lift all off season, you didn't break down film, you didn't scout draft picks, you didn't make trades.  If you team doesn't win then act like you got some sense and actually have bigger things to worry about.  Why are you throwing remotes? Why are you tearing up? Why are you screaming at your wife?  Why are about to throw hands with your neighbor?  Really?

Even worse are the internet thugs.  Dudes that rep their team to the max and get super defensive.  Type of guys that actually value their own self worth on the record of "their" team.  Its sad.

I'm not saying you can't be a fan but don't be The Fan.....

I used to be more emotionally invested when I had the time. Now that I'm working full time is not the priority I used to make it.

49ers fan seeing the light and trying to turn in his fan card? :nerd:

Nah, it's just sports. Do I get emotionally invested in them? Hell yeah. Do I spent thousands of dollars on gear and put ink on my skin to prove my 'fanhood'? Hell no. I'm damn sure not about to bust my $3000 TV over a game.

Alot of Fans have good memories tied to their team. My entire family on my dad's side is Giants fan so I watch alot of games with them, and in a way its one of the bonds that unite us.

Mannn shut yo fake fan *** up...and sit down
 this. I grew up a niner fan my fam is from the city I've seen nothin but red and gold all my life. The niner empire just has so much tradition it's more that just a football team or game. It's pride in our city tradition in the fam and just so much more.

It's not just football it's sports general. I can't see how you think something is wrong with being a passionate fan lol. Granted no one should ever kill someone or do anything drastic over a team, but you damn right I'ma get emotional if my team that represents my city and state wins or loses a big game. Teams represent who people are and bring people together. There's people who have sentimental reasons for being passionate about a team. I know for me growing up, I used to watch Knicks and Bulls games with my dad and those were some of the few times I could say I was able to have a bond and connection to my dad especially with him no longer being here. That alone is why I'm such a huge passionate Knicks fan cuz of those memories. So with that said just because YOU can't see the big deal, others do. As a proud New Yorker I'm definitely going to be emotionally invested into my teams. Sorry.

OP, If the rest of your posts are anything like this original post, I have to seriously wonder how you got 3025 rep points. Hacker?

Good post OP. I agree some people need to reflect back on taking things too seriously.

I am a huge Fan of my teams but not to the point of it ruining my day or week. I guess I got over that years ago with the Raiders LOL . Sports are entertainment and you should be passionate about them but not to the point of losing friends or causing problems with your family.

I dont care if the Raiders are playing. I go to church every sunday and if I make it back on time (Early games) then cool if not well too bad.

Same with all my other teams. I use to cry as a little kid when my teams lost but my dad would tell my bro and me "Get over it....the players dont care about it so why should you?....Are they paying you any of their millions?" best quote though from my Dad was "That is why I root for (insert winning team)" LOL total bandwagon fan.

PS

All my teams have a history with me so yes it hurts when they lose and I will be loyal... always but at the same time YOLO. So dont let some sorry player kill it for you.

That nonsense is mainly for kids. Actual grown people have too much @#$% in real life to deal with to let a game ruin an entire day/week. Niners lost yesterday...yeah I'm kinda disappointed but it's not like my life got worse or would have changed for the better had they won, so why be straight up depressed/angry?

Not football..... but basketball/Kings and soccer/USMNT. I think I do take it too seriously.

Some of the happiest moments I've had in my life were thru the Kings and USA soccer.

Me and my pops are really not close at all, but I remember when Tyreke hit that buzzer beater a few years ago we shared the biggest hug in my entire life

i take the cowboys too seriously sometimes...

never to the point where i wanna get violent or something...

but ill admit to being down on mondays after a loss....name of the game...

sometimes paying up bets hurts..lol...it is what it is tho...

I really do.

It has got worse now that all these bandwagon fans jumped on since we got RG3. Gets me so mad.

Bandwagon fans in the area annoy me so much here. DMV Cowboys fans especially.

I'm passionate about it but not to the point where I dislike people over who they root for.

I have yet to get mad over other fans. irritated maybe, but usually can laugh it off.
