Nike+ Shoes?

Hello,

I've recently been getting into the new Nike+ Apps for iOS. I downloaded the Nike+ Running app, and have really began to like it. I just used my normal iPod Touch 4th gen - and kept it in my pocket whilst running.

Today, I found the new Nike+ Training App, after wanting to see if Nike had created a newer app, since the older Nike Training Club. I've realised I will need the Nike+ Sport Kit - which includes the sensors and adapter for my iPod.

I understand how all this works, however I am confused on the shoes.

Nike say you need special Nike+ shoes- which have the pressure pads, and suitable slots for the sensors under the sole of the shoe. I noticed that they removed the ones which they advertise in the App from their store - and only the basketball one remains. I've been browsing the shop, and noticed that some of the shoes are called:

[ShoeName]+ [Blah blah]

Does the '+' in their name indicate they have this slot in the bottom of the shoe for the sensor, as no pictures show this, and I don't want to waste £100 on a shoe that isn't what I wanted?

Any help is appreciated!

What's the difference between the Nike+ Sports Sensor, with Adapters and chargers - and the normal Red/White Nike+ Sensor?

Apparently, the Nike Sensor is only one use, but the Sport Sensors are rechargable?

Does anyone have any?

I believe the Nike+ TRAINING and RUNNING are 2 different apps using 2 different sensors.

The "original" Nike Plus "chip" looks like this. It goes into the LEFT shoe (the right shoe in a pair of Nike+ running shoes won't have the slot for the sensor). It retails for $19 and only fits in Nike running shoes with the "+" in the name of the shoe (and you can see the Nike Plus icon on the bottom of the shoe). The Nike Plus running sensor is NOT re-chargeable, but you can turn them on and off so you don't waste the battery. It all depends on how many runs you do, but I've had chips last maybe a year, some people have them last longer. Some people say their chips lasted only a few months with regular use. But if you get into the Nike+ running, then assume you'll be replacing your $19 sensor every once in a while.

I believe a couple years ago, Nike started releasing "almost" all their new running shoes Nike+ enabled (with slot in left shoe designed to accommodate the $19 Nike+ sensor. It's up to you to decide if you want to spend the extra $19 for a sensor for these running shoes.

The newer Nike+ training sensor is found on select Nike basketball and training shoes (some Lebron X's and Kobe 8's as well as some Lunar TR1's) and can be used in conjunction with the Nike Fuelband. Sensors go in BOTH shoes. These sensors are re-chargeable and can plug into the USB port of your computer (to download the data).

The sensor and insole look like this:

Is it worth buying the newer recharable sensors but a normal pair of Nike + trainers? The ones with only one slot in the left shoe?
Would it still work okay with Apps like Nike Training +?

You're only able to use the "cheaper" sensor in running shoes only.

The basketball and training shoes have the newer, more expensive sensors that come in a pair for both feet.

If you're just into running, Nike+ is a joy to have and since most newer Nike running shoes have the Plus "slot" built in already, you have nothing to lose.

and you can ONLY use the newer, more expensive sensors in the shoes that they're built for (specific versions of the Lebron X's and Nike Lunar TR1's, etc.) I don't think any of the running-specific shoes are made to use them, just the left foot only sensor.

have you looked into the Nike Fuelband? it's just a bracelet and not tied to a certain pair or brand of shoes and monitors your activity as a whole and not just running.

The Nike running app on your phone or iPod nano doesn't require a chip in your shoe. Cheapest and best option for anyone that already uses that device for music while running. I use a fuel band but it doesn't give you pace or as accurate of distance measurements as the app.

Bought a new pair of Nike + trainers today. They are the type which have the 'cheaper' slot in just the left shoe.

As forth, I'm going to be buying the Adapter for my iPod touch, and Sensor to go in the shoe. Does the sensor work with the Nike+ Training app too? Or is it just the running one?
No one seems to ever mention the Training app.

After doing some more research - looks like my new Nike+ shoes are not going to work with the Nike+ Training app with the normal Nike+ sensor.
Apparently, the only thing which works with it are the Lunar TR1+ and Hyperdunk+. Of which, the Lunar version are no longer sold from Nike.

This is quite annoying. Especially since that app was the primary reason I wanted the sensor and Nike+ shoes. Nike don't say that you need the special, newer shoes, with the different sensors to use the Nike+ Traning app.

Please, tell me I'm wrong!

You need the newer trainers with pressure sensors in the soles and the two inserted sensors. One goes in each foot. The other technology with one sensor is purely for running. The good news is if you live near a Nike outlet store they have had the required trainers (without the sensors included) on sale for around $70 or they can be found on eBay cheap as well. The sensors can also be bought on eBay for a discount because they come with some LeBron shoes and people purchased them but don't want the sensors.

The training app also works with the hyperdunks if you prefer high top shoes.

Just to warn you the training app isn't anything awesome. It's like following an exercise video that displays your rep count on screen. It also froze each of the three times I tried it.

Yeah, I got my new Nike+ shoes from an outlet store I live close to. They're £90 online. Got them for £31.

The old Nike Training Club just stopped doing anything for me. I'm pretty sure it was designed for women in the first place. I just like the idea of having pro's on the exercise with you. Someone to motivate you whilst you work. It's just annoying how expensive the newer Nike+ Lunar TR1 and Hyperdunks are- even without the extra kit needed for a tiny but of info. It's also pretty irritating that they sell teo different types of sensor, which can only be used for their individual things.

The weird thing is. I used the Nike+ Running app without the sensors- and it worked fine with my iPod 4th Generation. Why is this?

Newer iPods have accelleromitors and other sensors that can be used by the Nike running app or the app run keeper for example. The sensors in shoes aren't really needed for Nike run tracking anymore.

Urgh.
This 'free' app is not at all free! I'm certainly not spending £150 on Lunar TR1's and the Sport Kit. It's too expensive for just one app!

They need to let the sensors also work with these new apps!

Nike Sells the Sport Pack alone for 85$

Just got some Kobe 8 All Stars +Enabled

I actually took the Insoles out and wore them in my non enabled versions

and they work fine. So i dont see why they would not function in another shoe, its just an insole.

I'm surprised the insole fits well in other shoes. I guess as long as its a similar arch there shouldn't be any problems. The Kobe 8 ASG are my current favorite shoes to ball in. So light.

Not sure how all shoes react, All the kobe 8s are the same though, other than the different Insole swaps

I agree it was stupid of Nike to call both things the same name when they aren't. If you are in the US which it sounds like they aren't, the Nike Lunar TR1 + (sports pack plus) are 29.99 and an extra 20% off on Saturdays, and the Lunar Hyperdunk + are 80 at outlets right now.

Are the sensors for Training and Basketball the same?

I got the tr1 w/ sport pack for super cheap on eBay and I was wondering if they'd work on the hyperdunk+.

Fuel Band FTW. :smokin

I don't see the whole + thing with the shoes taking off like the FB has.
