2013 New York Yankees season thread Vol. (85-77) OFFSEASON

I've been against this signing BUT a few things

The kid is very talented. I didn't mind us going for him but I was hoping for a lot less money.

He's injury prone and that scares me. If he stays healthy, I love it.

This also means the Yankees are back to spending money and not giving a damn :smokin

I'm expecting a lot of SBs and for him to hit a good amount of bombs. Hoping he can stay around .300 too

It also means we don't bring in Choo, who is a BUM

Now we need to bump up Cano's offer. Tell him 200. If he says no, tell him suck a ****

Hughes will thrive in Minnesota. Second best park to pitch in the AL after Oakland. He's a fly ball pitcher, that works in the Twins' park.

The pitching market isn't going to do anything with the top guys until Tanaka is posted and signed. Once that happens, you'll see the Garza's & Kuroda's sign and you'll see Price get traded. That's holding up the pitching market right now.

Can Hughes be removed from the thread title. Makes me cringe just looking at it.

Ellsbury for 7 years :smh: . Ellsbury for $153M :smh: .

Cano and/or a SP need to be signed. I still don't want Cano getting what he's looking for. It's gotta be less, especially after shelling out the money that Ellsbury is getting.

As expected, Ellsbury will be in Center. Gardner in Left... Soriano moves to DH.

Yankees want another outfielder, Ichiro will move to the bench.

Vernon Wells will probably be cut.

The Ellsbury signing is supposed to squeeze Cano into a decision. Do you want to win making $24.28mil a year over 7 years, Or go to Seattle where you will be even less of a brand, you will not win, and you're playing in a non-hitters park for $25mil a year over 8 years.

Yankees have been telling people they still have enough room to resign Cano, they will sign at least 1 starting pitcher.

As for the spots we're missing, I'll go through the replacements, or who we should look.
2B - Robinson Cano. Do not even chance it. If you are going to give Ellsbury $153mil, you can give Cano $185mil over 7 years.
3B - Mark Reynolds. We need a righty bat, who can hit the ball. He'll strike out a lot, but even at the bottom of the order he can be dangerous enough for 20HR, 80RBIs.
RF - No idea. But honestly, we might as well blow past $189mil. Granderson wants 3 year probably around $45. Do it. If not Granderson go after Nelson Cruz for RF.
Backup C - Might as well go back to Cervelli.
Backup 1B / 3B - Reynolds is good insurance if Tex gets hurt. If that happens Reynolds will have to move over to first, meaning you need a 3B. Always like Chavez, long shot because he wouldn't be playing nearly everyday, but I do want him back.
Backup OF - with Wells probably gone, you could try out Zoilo Almonte, see how he does as an occasional player.

SP2 - Get Kuroda back into the fold. If you need to get him rest and make sure he stays rested, skip him a couple of starts throughout the year..
SP5 - Tanaka.

Long Reliever - Phelps
Lefty Specialist - Boone. We have to bring him back because Javier Lopez , only J.P. Howell is left even remotely as good as Boone
RP - Dellin Betances. Work with him and help him place his curve. If you can do that, he will be a monster in the pen because of the movement of his curve and the 16mph difference between his fastball and curve
RP - Shawn Kelly
RP - Preston Claiborne
CP - You either put Robertson in there or you don't, but you need to make up your mind.. Since Nathan is gone, Balfour is your 2nd option. If you keep Robertson as the closer, we should look at K-Rod. I think we should do this regardless, but besides the point. He will be a great value signing. His stats with Baltimore were meh. But look at the stats with the Brewers they are very good. He's never getting more than $5mil a year again, it's a good signing for anywhere in the bullpen. He's also a 31 year old reliever, so it's not like this is the end of the road for him.

Not super excited about this move unless we get everybody else we need. we better not have lost Cano because of this because I'd rather have Cano. Isn't this guy just an upgraded Gardner? We need lefty power in this stadium this isn't citi field....

The idea is he is capable of 20HR + (based on one year) and gives you a lot of speed.. Hope is Yankee stadium turns him into a 20HR+ hitter, and a double/stolen base machine

Really don't like the Ellsbury signing...I can understand paying a premium for power, but Ellsbury has none of that. He's obviously a good player, and hope he does well, but could've probably gotten Beltran, Granderson, and a pitcher for less, and at shorter duration.

The cautionary tale of Kei Igawa aside, I don't know why with the amount of money the Yankees have, they don't spend it moreso on international talent. if we signed every Puig, Cespedes and Aoki, even if only 1/3 of them turn out to be good we get a deal, and players are under contract through their primes, and playing for a bigger one. I'm sure they'd have more trade value than a Tex or ARod type deal, and we can pair some money with them in smaller amounts if we need to move them. With such a bad farm system, it's really the only way to add younger, less expensive talent, and tradable commodities. I want hungry players, I'm sick of this team giving 30-40 year olds their retirement money.

I'm having second thoughts on this Ellsbury deal and hoping they don't sign this Tanaka character.

Days like this bring out the characters on Francesa.

I love these days. So many stupid callers and ideas.

People calling in saying we should let go of Cano because he doesn't run to first base................OH OK

Did you hear dude that said we shouldnt resign Cano because he has one bad Postseason?

i think it's fans just prepping themselves in case you can't get him. when you do resign him, they'll welcome him back with open arms no doubt
