The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

 figures

I use to hand my little brother the most effortless Gears 2 L's of all time

I couldn't even be okay trading my 360 in for a PS3 until I had beat Gears 3 on some closure ****. That ending :smh:

take all this talk to that other thread, it could use all this positivity, or any activity.

Reading other forums, you got the dudes who didn't pre-order saying they will start the camping process wednesday evening. Not all, though.

You'll have a few feinds camping the 11th.

Things are much more positive this release. My BB got 6 PS3 last time, now they took preorders for 100 and still have some for release day. Plus allowing preorders relieves a lot of the stress/hype/tension.

Still have 2 preordered, debating whether I should wait to last minute to cancel to make sure GS gets mine.

Kojima aiming for Photorealism for MGSV + Pics

Recently Kojima Productions released four new Metal Gear Solid V screens, showing off photorealistic environments. However, according to Kojima the studio is having trouble maintaining that level of realism with the character.

“In the screenshot taken from FOX engine that we recently released, u can see the reality comes in when we take Snake out. That’s my headache.”

“In fact we’re aiming photo-realistic graphic quality in MGSV but once Snake comes in that frame, such reality get lost.”

Kojima is known as a perfectionist, so it’s to be expected he will never be truly satisfied with his own work. But maybe this means some improvements on the character models will be made during the rest of the game’s development.

Yall might not believe me but whatever, i work for AT&T in a division of corporate-level technical support. I literally just got a call from Microsoft saying a large percentage of the stores are reporting a problem they discovered last night, that the xbox one demos IPs are not working with the system. So the initial setups arent working correctly. Theyre trying to push through an emergency group ip configuration on like 50 demo units.

Now i find this interesting, out of the demo units that apparently some stores got a hold of last night, 50 are already reported to not be able to access the internet correctly? In perspective, theres probably hundreds (not thousands) of stores with these setting up demos now... and at least 50 cant access the net with their xboxes? lolllll i tried to pump him for more info but he wasn't budging. I wanted to ask him about the patch still having bugs but he completely sidestepped my question lol

It's just too slow for me. Plus I don't rock with 3rd person like that.
Never been a fan of 3rd person shooters myself

PS3 games were designed for an entirely different system. The PS4 isn't backwards compatible on it's own. I don't see any PS3 game, digital or physical, working natively on the PS4.
So were ps1/ps2 games, but were still able to play them.
BC has to do with reading the ps3 discs.
ps3 games are going to work on the ps4.
Gaikai is one of ways sony hopes to achieve that.

The PS2 and PS3 had built in backwards compatibility. The PS4 doesn't. The PS3 used to have the EE chip from the PS2 built in for hardware backwards compatibility. When they took it out, the BC was very limited.

From what I understand, Gaikai is going to use streaming and the PS4 won't be able to natively run PS3 games. It sounds more like OnLive on PC. I don't think Sony has said that we'll be able to put our PS3 discs in the PS4 and just play them like that.

Sony Explains How PS4 Required Less Investment than PS3; Hints to Future Investment for Cloud Gaming

URL]

Yesterday Sony held its quarterly financial conference call, and quite obviously many of the questions from analysts and investors were related to the upcoming PS4. While answering to one of these questions during the session in Japanese, Vice President of Investor Relations Yoshinori Ha****ani explained how the PS4 required less investment than the PS3. He also hinted to the possibility of future investment for servers dedicated to cloud gaming.t

"The PS4 platform itself, as we explained, is a lighter platform than PS3 in terms of investment. To be more specific, we did not design a specific semiconductor for it, and we don’t run a production facility for the PS4 semiconductor. Due to that the capital expenditure burden is smaller."

"Going forward we may require ingvestment to expand our network business further. Last year we acquired a company named Gaikai and created the foundations of a cloud-based business for the future. When we’ll introduce that element in the business and we’ll expand our network business we might need to invest in more servers. In the past, when we started the semiconductor production and expanded it, we had capital expenditures in the order of magnitude of several hundreds of billions of yen."

"Compared to that, the investment required for the servers would be much smaller, in the order of magnitude of several tens of billions of yen."

Looks like Sony learned from the past in keeping the investment light, instead of going for an unique, exotic architecture that requires much larger investment that inevitably reflected on the final price of the console.

sorry for not being clear. I was talking about digital ps3 games not disc based ps3 games.

The ps4 has to be able to play digital ps3 games.

I had both a PS3 and a 360. Calling GOW trash is blasphemous; most modern 3rd person shooters follow that game's mechanics. GOW Judgment was absolutely pointless though. It felt like an arcade game with all those immersion breaking high score screens

^I'll believe it when sony releases some type of statement on this issue.
Part of me feels that it's that way so $ony can make gaikai more appealing.

These don't even look photorealistic though. Good, yes, but it still looks like a game
