The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

oh, there will be hardware issues. there are *always* hardware issues.  software related issues i guess get a pass now because of how fast they usually get rectified by bigger companies like sony.

Which is why it would a good idea to purchase a extended warranty either from Sony or Square trade at the 11 month mark point when the 1 year Sony manufacturer warranty is about to expire.

They are cheap for a 2 or 3 year extended warranty with incidental coverage.

PS4 Slim? You have a good 2 years before that happens fam. In this day in age I don't expect any major hardware issues to arise. Any software related issues well there are patches for that.

If you want it, go for it simple as that.

Hes not off base regarding hardware issues. Id go ahead and guess that blu ray drive failure on both consoles would be the primary issue - not saying it'd be a huge concern or a fundamental flaw like the RRoD in earlier 360s, but its very possible.

PS4 Slim is a long ways off - and more often than not, these console makers make changes behind the scenes in between actual design changes anyways. Theres always going to be the concern/paranoia of hardware failure, but I wouldn't let that deter you from making a console purchase entirely.

hmm you and others here have convinced me.  i think i'll cop and just pay a little more for warranty so if something goes belly up i'm not *** out.  i'll have to wait awhile anyway

Honestly, and I could be wrong I can't remember if there were any hardware related issues with the PS3.

On a different note. Sony's PR deserves some type of award. It felt like yesterday when PSN got hacked and was down for like a month. To go from that to arguably putting Microsoft against the ropes is impressive.

I can't lie I have both PS3 and 360 and personally I was looking forward to the XBOX One and was planning on getting it. But as always Microsoft shoots themselves in the foot anytime they have something going for them.

I can BARELY wait 3 days for the console to come out and some dudes are thinking about waiting 2-3 years for a slim version. Props to you for that patience

if anybody needs to get their scores or wins up.. feel free to play me, cause i know i'm gonna be trash for a while

Thanks for the heads up guys. I'm going to stop at Walmart and pick up 2K14. Amazon crazy if they think I'm waiting till next week.

There was the "yellow light of death", but it doesn't seem to have been that prevalent of an issue. I wouldn't waste time waiting for a slim Royal, since I'm seriously wondering how it could get any smaller and the price isn't bad. If the launch hype hasn't ensnared you, I would just recommend grabbing it whenever you can think of more than 10 games you really want to play.

Same boat on actually hoping that Xbox One would deliver. I knew PS4 would be copped first one way or another, but at this point I'm just hoping Microsoft gets it together in the next year or two, or I might just skip that **** altogether this generation.

Sticking with Killzone and 2k for now.

I've been following this thread despite not having a preorder or even intentions on buying anytime soon

I'm certainly planning on a PS4 eventually, but I think because I was slow to get a PS3, probably a year and a half after it first came out? And I'm not a diehard gamer like I wish I could be either  but I'm excited for it to come out and for everyone to enjoy next gen.

I'm still content with my PS3... until I play someone else's PS4 I'm sure.

Although I won't be surprised in a couple months when I have some extra money I impulse buy one

MS is going to be just fine. Im excited for the PS4 and the overall direction its heading in, in terms of vision and the indie titles and what not, but MS is going to have no issue gaining ground over the next couple years especially with the more casual consumer who's going to get inundated with ads for X1 and going to be interested in the voice control and other features that a lot of core gamers sort of scoff at.

This gen is going to be pretty great IMO, Im glad MS and Sony are taking different approaches. I hope it turns into a dogfight, cause the end consumer is going to end up winning in the end.
