The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Not sure if any NT'ers used the 30 day free trial for Sony's Music Unlimited streaming service.

Pretty good service and I use it while I play Resogun and Warframe online.

I still wouldn't pay for it though after the trial period is over.

Same goes for UI, controller, cameras, etc etc
360 controller is objectively the best controller in gaming history

thats a fact
*States opinion* *Claims it's fact* Oh ok

Riddle me this, how is a controller with a nearly useless D-Pad the best controller in gaming history? I get it that Shooters have dominated the last generation and the 360 controller is excellent for shooters, but ya'll have to stop acting like that 360 controller is perfect. Especially considering many people play more than shooters.

Any tips on shooting in 2k? I look at the ball when it reaches the player's heads but I still get early or late?

I think its easily top 3, but D-pad and the offset joysticks hold it back for me. Even the new model that had the twist up D-pad didnt improve it enough. The buttons were still to thick and unresponsive.

I'd say practice

I have no problem getting excellent releases.. everyones shot is different so it's hard to say how to get better at shooting other than practicing releases of the different players you're using.

Preciate it but what do you look for in the shooting motion? I've always played live before 2k and live gave you a slight feel when it's right. In 2k I don't know what to look for.

What's so aggravating about it?
Man I was literally about to say the same thing as I popped it in and was about to start the single player.

Game crashed immediately after I finished the intro level, and now the campaign keeps crashing when I try to launch it

I think top 3 is a fair assessment. Both the dualshock and the 360 controllers have taken gaming to new levels. But both still have flaws. Some people prefer their stick layout to be asymmetrical, others prefer symmetrical. Some prefer the responsiveness of the dualshock buttons while others prefer the stiffness of the 360 skittles buttons. Some prefer a smaller controller like the dualshock, others prefer the heft of the 360 controller. It's almost all preference. And last I checked preference isn't fact.

Me personally, I need my D-Pad to be top notch and front and center, rather than offset. I play a lot of fighters and I'm not into arcade sticks.

Yea, I like the 360 controller for shooters and racing games. The ps controller is beast for sports games and fighting games. the ps4 controller feels pretty good tho. ill check out the xb1 controller on Friday.

360 controller was definitely lacking when it came to the dpad. at the end of the day, both controllers had their +'s and -'s.

Nothing works. I can't make it through any multiplayer without being kicked back to the home screen. I've had to restart my campaign three times, at least. It's just a broken game right now and I'm not about to wait on a million patches to bring it back up to standards.

That blows :smh:

I thought you were referring to the gameplay though.

Only thing I've had a problem with is Conquest mode.

I've played every other multiplayer mode perfectly fine. It's the one that I really want to play that doesn't work

I haven't played campaign either so I can't comment on that. But from what I've been hearing there is some major issues that need to be fixed asaaap.

Another tip is to focus on the blue circle under the player, once you begin the shot it will flash white when its time to release. Release the shot when it flashes white and you should score. Other than that,

By the way guys, don't be so discouraged with BF4. I've only been able to play Deathmatch online since the other serves are down and its an amazing game. ( I don't care for the single player)

Graphics and game play is on a whole other level compared to CoD, CoD is the same crap every year. Besides ONLY being able to play Deathmatch online I haven't experienced any other issues whatsoever. It runs flawless on the PS4. Can't wait to play Conquest...

BF4 and NBA 2k14 are in my opinion the best looking games right now.

^^^ sucks I don't have either

I opted for bf4 on the xb1 since my friends will be on there. ps has also been a solo mission console for me.

Killzone looks good. Surprisingly, Need For Speed looks very good too. Simple details like the trees and the leaves that are flying around really add something to the game.

Reposed hilarious and alright carver cool I'll be on around that time as well

Sony May Gross About $100 Per Console, Teardown Shows

Sony is doing a lot of things differently with PlayStation 4 and there seems to be a payoff, as highlighted by an early analysis of the new device’s innards.

TechInsights, one of the first companies to take apart the console, estimates the cost to Sony of its components at about $296–indicating a gross profit of nearly $100 on the $399 product.

That’s quite a different picture than the firm painted after Sony came out with the PlayStation 3 in 2006, which then carried a list price of $599. A TechInsights teardown report at the time estimated the cost to Sony to build the console totaled more than $688, indicating it was losing about $88 per console shipped.

The contrast underscores changes in components and their cost as well as key design decisions Sony made this time around.

For example, Sony opted to use a Blu-ray drive in the PlayStation 3, a then-pricey component that TechInsights estimated cost Sony $81. The same kind of drive costs $20 now, the firm estimates.

But one of the biggest differences this time concerns processor chips. Sony with PlayStation 3 went with the nonstandard Cell chip, developed in collaboration with IBM and Toshiba, which required a separate chip for graphics. That combination, along with accessory chips and related memory, accounted for about $154 of the PlayStation 3′s total cost, according to TechInsights’ estimate at the time.

Making software for the Cell, by all accounts, also caused programmers to tear their hair out.

“The developers found it really tough to come to grips with,” recalled Dominic Mallinson, a vice president for research and development for Sony Computer Entertainment America, in a presentation Wednesday. Issues associated with programming the chip “caused the complexity and the cost to rise dramatically.”

Mallinson, who spoke at an event hosted by chip maker Advanced Micro Devices, said Sony listened to developers this time in a number of areas. For one thing, it went with an AMD chip based on the x86 design familiar to people who write PC programs.

That eight-brained chip, customized with input from Sony, also delivers the PlayStation 4′s graphics capability. TechInsights estimates the processor in the new console cost Sony $85.

But perhaps the thing programmers will be most excited about is the memory in the new console, Mallinson said. Not only is there a lot of it–eight gigabytes–but the chips used are a variety called GDDR5 that offers extremely high bandwidth in sending data to the processors.

In addition, where the PlayStation 3 had separate pools of memory for graphics and for the main processors, the memory in the successor device is one unified pool that can be used for either function, Mallinson noted. (The associated chips add about $62 to the cost of making the new system, TechInsights says).

The technology choices, overall, aid performance and cost at the same time.

“We selected components and semiconductor processes which are very mainstream which will allow us to hit those very aggressive cost targets and to cost reduce over time,” Mallinson said.

IFixit and TechInsights, in that order, both published heavily illustrated teardowns Friday. The former firm doesn’t provide cost estimates, but revealed some of the key chip suppliers in the system.

They are primarily known players. Samsung, for example, supplied the memory. A less familiar supplier, Macronix, provided some serial flash memory. The hard drive comes from HGST, a company based in Japan that is now part of Western Digital.

Still deciding between these two systems , I don't know which one to get

Same here. I'm starting to lean more towards the X1.

I feel like the XB1 is being marketed as a multimedia system vs the PS4 being marketed as a gaming console. If I had to choose between the 2, I would do the one that fits my needs more. Im getting both for some reason but I would choose PS4 over XB1 at this point due to the price difference, the signs that MS is tampering, and that I want a video game system not a multimedia system.
