The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Fables Episode 2 is out and it was pretty good. A little slower moving than the first, but it has you guessing who might be the antagonist the entire time.

If they had released the 1-50lvl grind as a single player game, itd be hailed as the return to greatness. Alot of people missing out due to the reluctance to try an MMO.

Now just take why they have learned here and apply it to XV, XVI, ect.

Square Enix Financials Cast Final Fantasy 14 as Saviour
Returned to profit at last.
by Luke Karmali FEBRUARY 5, 2014

Square Enix has managed to return to profit, thanks largely to the strong performance of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

The company has just released its financial report for the nine month period ending December 31, 2013, which reveals a rather impressive turnaround.

Compared with the period last year, whilst sales remained flat at 102.5bn yen this year compared to 102.8 bn yen last year, net income shifted drastically from a loss of 5.7bn yen in 2012 to a profit of 5.2bn yen in 2013. Operating income also moved from a loss of 4.9bn yen to a profit of 7.8bn yen. It paints a pretty stark contrast with the company's "extraordinary loss" from last year, and Square Enix is now predicting profits of up to 6bn yen by the end of financial year on March 31, 2014.

In terms of who to thank for this change in fortune, Square Enix suggests it's the relaunched MMO Final Fantasy XIV, which topped 1.5 million registered accounts upon its relaunch last year, better than the company expected. With the game still due to launch on PS4 in April and a beta test is scheduled to begin on February 22, this title could get a healthy financial pump to profits at the start of the next financial year. Square Enix has previously announced that anyone who purchases the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIV will also be able to upgrade to the PS4 version absolutely free.

"During the nine-month period ended December 31, 2013, revenues from distribution of console game titles in North America were strong," reads the accompanying report. "Software sales and operation of 'Final Fantasy XIV:A Realm Reborn,' a massively multiplayer online role playing game released in August 2013, have been making favourable progress.

"Content for platforms such as smart devices and PC browser has continued to build upon its already solid growth. Among other titles, 'Sengoku Ixa,' a PC browser game, has been showing steady performance, and 'Kaku-San-Sei Million Arthur,' a game for smartphones, has become an instant hit in Taiwan and mainland China, following Korea, while its platform has expanded to include the PlayStation Vita."

Square Enix looked to be in trouble earlier this year following poor financials and a leadership review, though it seems the company could be on the verge of turning things around. With new Sleeping Dogs and Deus Ex games on the way, along with the upcoming Thief, Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts III and a new next-gen Hitman, Square could be set to start the next financial year feeling much more positive than it was at the start of this one.

Assassin's Creed 4: Freedom Cry Releasing as Standalone Title
You don't need the main game in order to play it.
by Luke Karmali FEBRUARY 5, 2014

Ubisoft has announced Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag's Freedom Cry DLC will be released as a standalone title.

Freedom Cry will be available via download on PS4 and PS3 from February 18 in North America and February 19 in Europe, with a PC version on the way on February 25. The fact it's standalone means you won't need to buy Black Flag in order to play it, and both versions will cost $14.99.

We heard last week that claims over Ubisoft having planned the ending of the Assassin's Creed franchise are "not exactly true," according to one of the series' writers.

For more information on Freedom Cry, which places you in the boots of Edward Kenway's first mate Adewale, replete with Assassin's powers, check out our review.

Stealth Inc. Ultimate Edition Announced For PS4
Plus, three other titles are set to be announced in the coming weeks.
by Luke Karmali FEBRUARY 5, 2014

Curve Games has announced Stealth Inc. Ultimate Edition will be available on PS4 in early March.

The PlayStation 4 port of the 2D stealth platformer will include the original game Stealth Inc.: A Clone in the Dark, along with the two DLC expansions, The Teleporter Chambers and The Lost Clones.

A blog post detailing the announcement said there are "no plans to bring out this version on any other system right now. It will not be a Cross-buy title, but we are looking into ways we can offer a very significant discount to people who already own Stealth Inc – we’ll have some more news on that in the next few weeks."

Additionally, Curve revealed that it's planning to reveal four new PlayStation games this month, one every Wednesday. The next one is apparently an indie title "that's not only a first for PlayStation but also a first for the PC."

Just because this announcement is for PS4, doesn't mean all the others will be. The studio reiterated its commitment to the Vita through 2014, promising releases for both the handheld and PS3 would also be coming.

by Luke Karmali FEBRUARY 5, 2014

Drakengard 3 will be available exclusively on PS3 from May 21, Square Enix has announced.

The action-RPG will be available as a digital-only release in Europe, though both digital and retail versions will be launched in North America. A new trailer containing the game's opening cinematic has also been released, which you can check out below.

A prequel to the original Drakengard, Drakengard 3 is set in a medieval world where six sister goddesses hold dominion, but the world is thrown into disarray when the eldest sister attempts to murder the others with the help of her dragon companion.

Originally known as Dragon Dragoon 3, Square Enix revealed the true nature of the title late last year

Resident Evil and Onimusha Composer Admits He's a Fraud
Someone else has been composing his music for almost two decades.
by Luke Karmali FEBRUARY 5, 2014

Mamoru Samuragochi, the deaf composer who was thought to have created the soundtracks for Resident Evil and Onimusha titles, has admitted someone else has been writing his music for almost two decades.

The Japan Times reports that Samuragochi, known as a "modern Beethoven" due to his hearing impairment, went deaf at the age of 35 but continued to work using "absolute pitch".

In Japan, he's most famous for his piece Hiroshima Symphony, a tribute to the survivors of the atomic bomb attacks. His other work includes compositions for Resident Evil: The Director's Cut in 1997 (called Biohazard in Japan), which he did "while hiding his severe hearing disability and living under harsh conditions," according to his website.

"In 1999, right before he started composing the music for the game Onimusha he completely lost his hearing," the site continues. "However the piece he composed, “Symphony, Rising Sun” was highly acclaimed and was noticed by the public as a master piece."

It now turns out that none of these pieces were created by Samuragochi, and that they were instead the work of an individual unable to come forward for personal reasons, according to his lawyer.

Samuragochi's solicitor said that his client was "deeply sorry as he has betrayed fans and disappointed others".

"He knows he could not possibly make any excuse for what he has done. He is mentally distressed and not in a condition to properly express his own thoughts".

Biohazard as a title > Resident Evil.  I feel like only the OG Biohazard should've been called Resident Evil bc of the mansion

How much is a FF14 sub?

Bare minimum is 12.99 for one month. That allows you a single character on each server if you'd like.

I'd suggest the 3 month for $42. Up to 8 characters per world, and it'll allow you to finish the game to 50 and get a peak at endgame content.

You dont really need to worry about having more than 1 charcter. It runs on a job system, so you can jump back and forth from whatever role you like. (Tank, healer, DPS)

Man gamestops straight crooks. I'll rather show love nd give it to my homie for 20$ than let them screw me.

They get no more of my business.

Eh, Fifa took over as my sports game, and 2K was just sitting there. Wanted to preorder Lightning Returns, so I figured might as well trade it in. Because I traded it toward a game, it upped the value by 30%, to 29 bucks. :\

I have the urge to pick up NHL 14. Haven't played a hockey game in years.
Go for it hands down best sports game there is every year, For me atleast...

Even if your not a HUGE hockey fan the game still is nice.

there are alot of cheesy goals though so if you do cop be prepared to be pissed when goalie lets up weak goals.

just upgraded my tv for the ps4 to a 40" samsung led, f6300 model. the difference in graphics is :pimp: I didnt notice any input lag in cod ghost online which I feared about getting a new tv in general.
Have the same model in a size 55 great tv for the price . Brings the game to life 2k on this bad boy is what made me stop the complaints of the ps4 seeing how other games will look on this tv will be AWEsome. If you are getting a lag you can go to setting >general > and turn on game mode. It brings it down to 720p instead of 1080 though
