The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Tales is good, but to me it doesnt touch FF. Dragon Quest (ironically now apart of Square through Enix) was the only real competitor to FF in my eyes. Id even throw Wild ARMS ahead of Tales.

Dragon Quest VIII is almost flawless.

I never got a chance to play DQ VIII, bought it for my brother along with Grandia III. I was thinking of copping a PS2 for the low just for these two titles and a few others I missed out on. I couldnt believe that SE released a true sequel to DQ for the DS

I understand that DQ is bigger in Japan and the handheld has a big market but really.....

Tales is a good series but none of them have lived up to Vesperia IMO. Maybe I hold Vesperia up so high cause it was the first one I played, idk. A lot of people say that Symphonia is the best in the series, so Ill decide if i find that to be true by the end of the week.

Im hoping for a Star Ocean sequel, although I doubt it'll happen. SO4 was my favorite RPG for all of the last gen.

Dragon Quest was FF competition in Japan, Dragon Quest VII  and VIII did good in the US though. Idk b I think Tales as of now is better than Wild Arms; Wild Arms kind of fell off. The first 3 were good but after that they completely changed everything..... after FF where would you guys rank these series of rpgs : Suikoden, Tales, Star Ocean,Grandia, Wild Arms, Xenogears/saga series

I have only played Star Ocean: The Last Hope and a few Tales games (Vesperia, Graces F, Abyss (3DS), and Xillia), unfortunately i havent played any of the Wild Arms, Xenogears or Suikoden. The bits and pieces I played Grandia III I enjoyed and loved the battle theme as well.

Man... that's harder than listing the FF games.

FF
DW/DQ
Grandia
Wild ARMS
Star Ocean
Suikoden
Xenogears

And Xenogears being last is no disrespect, I just love all those series so much.

You start throwing in lesser known series and one-off games...

Tactics Ogre
Skies of Arcadia
Chrono Trigger/Cross
Disgaea
Secret of Mana
Dark Cloud 1 and 2
Legend of Legaia
Legend of Dragoon
Vandal Hearts/Flames of Judgement
Valkria Chronicles

Making me sad just thinking about it and how little we have seen in the past 10 years. I know I am probably forgetting like a dozen too. And there are the games I completely forgot playing as a kid.

After I beat FF VIII, my next PSN download will Chrono Trigger, never played it and gotta see what the fuss is all about.

Wild Arms and Legend of Legaia were my favorite RPGs besides FF 7/8 on the PS WON

I wish TECMO would bring the Kagero: Deception series back.  I'm at work, and i can't post vids.  if you haven't heard or played this game, you bascially run around and set traps to kill people trying to kill you.

All this Turn based RPG talk...

I have Demon Souls sitting on my PS3 HDD, fully paid for and downloaded, and have yet to play 1 minute of it. One day I will play through all 3... but I feel like I have to be in some zen state to not throw my controller through a wall from the videos Ive watched.

Phantasy Star 2 Online looks great from what I've seen. looking forward to that coming stateside.

I missed out on Demon's Soul on PS+, never played Dark Souls either. I get bored with western RPGs, although I thought Skyrim was intersting. Thats my one western RPG that I play whenever. it'll probably take me years until I complete it so getting another western RPG is out of the question

Fallout 3 and New Vegas are probably my favorite WRPG's. Had those not come out, along with Elder Scrolls, RPG fans would have dried up.

I like Fallout but with no knowledge of how WRPGs play, I was getting killed a lot. Just decided to leave it alone. Gave it another shot with New Vegas, got a little further but eventually same thing happened

Well yeah, Elder Scrolls is boring as ****. Terrible combat and buncha lame-o quests.

Dark Souls is a different beast. It's a lot more focused than ES/ Fallout.

I would like to sit and down and play all three I just dont know if Ill ever find time for them. Between my current backlog and future releases, me playing Dark Souls seems unrealistic.

Can Demon's Souls still be played? I heard something about community being dead

I feel so lost in the FF beta  how do I find my objectives on the map? I thought they were the little exclamation points, but when I go to one it always ends up being somebody I don't need to talk to

What I been doing after I accept a quest is, hit options>duty>journal. Then you can click on the current quest and click on the map and it shows you where it is. Also when you complete that quest and have to bring something back to someone they will have a green checkmark on the map and over their head.

Dunno if there is an easier way but it works for me.

Main quests have what looks like a gold flare around the exclamation point. Regular exclamation points are sidequests.

Thanks for this info guys. I had no idea where I was going before . This definitely helps
