The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Thats weird... I figured you'd enjoy it. I liked it quite a bit. All I'd say is give it a little more time, let the world open up a bit and still see if you feel the same.

Once I got into hunting creatures, I enjoyed it.
Yeah I think I might be ruining it for myself by worrying about getting the Platinum. I get worried that I'm going to run out of time. I still haven't got use to the combat either. When I fought the first boss (name in the spoiler) I seen he had over 200,000 HP and I could barely beat him, I finished with 0 stars. I remember you saying the boss fights were hard even on easy but damn, 0 stars

I'm not giving up on it just yet just hope it picks up soon.

Just realized we have 13 days left til E3, at least for the PS4 conference

There is another boss fight with someone you might be familiar with that almost made me quit as well. I believe it'll be your next... maybe the one after. It's terribly hard if you dont know what you're doing with the style change system. It's honestly the second hardest fight in the game I'd say.

If you can get by that, it's all clear sailing until optional enemies.

I think i'd rather play Evolve more than I'd wanna play Destiny.  I don't have the time to put in Destiny.  Evolve seems like i can just pick up the controller and play.  Destiny seems like, damn, my equipment is terrible, everyone already prestige'd and has Godlike stuff, its only been out a week.

Yeah I may have to use some guides to get my load out right cause I can't go through this game struggling with every boss

i think I just need to get a thorough understanding of how the garbs work and hopefully I won't have too many more issues.

I hope Beyond: Two Souls gets a release date for PS4. My wife had bought it for me on my birthday but I knew it would drop to $30 or less so I took it back. Rather than a GTA V for PS4, I'd rather have Red Dead *shrugs*

Hopefully Spring 2015 at the latest.

lol i just googled FFXV and saw that they just confirmed it to release on PC as well. Release dates will be announced at E3 too !

PC release and 2015 March release

This is SE we're talking about here. Winter 2015 for Japan and Spring 2016 for the west is the most likely scenario but I wish i was wrong.

As for PC, it is being developed on PC and ported down but I wouldn't get my hopes up. If anything it won't be a simultaneous release.

I'm really contemplating selling my PS4 and picking one up in September for Destiny. Looks like Watch Dogs is another pass..... meh.

See what E3 says. If it's sparse then sell it.

Anyone else feel like Destiny gonna be a first person Warframe?  I wanna play it, but i dont wanna do tedious missions and **** 300x to have decent gear...

Edit: i also don't want to play WarFrame

Destiny is a much bigger game from a studio with a big track record so no.

I'm going with a Spring 2015 release date since this game was announced back in 2006. I doubt they'd release in JP and NA that far apart, 2-3 months at the most. If they're going to wait til Winter 2015, they might as well wait until E3 2015
EA SPORTS UFC - Strategic Submission Battles
RouseyVsTate_Header_656x369.jpg

Brian Hayes, the creative director of EA SPORTS UFC shares his thoughts on the game's submission system.

In June of 2012, EA SPORTS and the UFC announced a new licensing partnership. That same month, the development team at EA Canada enlisted the services of MMA trainer and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Adam Ryan, to come show us the art of BJJ first hand. Some people were complete novices, others had already been training for years. Everybody loved it. Maybe not as much the morning after…

For the past two years now, there has been a dedicated group of designers, animators and programmers rolling together twice a week under Adam's tutelage.
ea-sports-ufc-submissions-01.jpg
One of the first things I learned about jiu-jitsu is that you can do it with your eyes closed. Rolling with one of my more experienced teammates, I noticed the relaxed expression on his face and closed eyes. When your opponent is in your closed guard and you have wrist control, there really isn't much information your eyes provide.

Grappling is much more about feeling where your opponent is, rather than seeing where they are. That encapsulates the challenge everyone who has tried developing the submission system for a video game has faced. Ever. How to recreate an experience that's all about feel, when the only information you can give the player is visual?
ea-sports-ufc-submissions-02.jpg
We wanted to showcase the fact that trying to submit someone is a constant struggle and that, very often, not as easy as the press of a button. Additionally, when Coach Adam would show the team how to properly set up and apply various submission holds, we noticed there were always technical details about how to grab your own arm, where to place your feet, or how to keep your weight on your opponent because failing to do so could give them a doorway to escape.

There is always some way the defensive fighter can try to move or shift that will relieve the pressure of a joint lock or a choke. That is, until there is no place to move and the fight is over. It's the offensive fighter's job to shut the defender down and look for their openings to tighten the submission to the point where their opponent has no choice but to tap.
ea-sports-ufc-submissions-03.jpg
These are the observations that led us to create the Submission Game for EA SPORTS UFC

The idea of progression vs. resistance played a big role in how we approached the HUD for our in-game Strategic Submission Battles.

The HUD consists of four gates that surround the fighters on screen. A blue Right Stick icon will appear in each of these gates informing the defending fighter that they can move their right stick in any direction. If the defending fighter can push one of these Right Stick icons all the way to the outside of the submission HUD, they’ll escape the submission.

Resistance comes into play when the attacking fighter looks to block the escape. As the defending fighter attempts to move their Right Stick icon to the to the outside of the HUD, the icon will turn red letting the attacker know they need to resist the escape by moving their own Right Stick in the same direction. When the attacking fighter does so, the defender cannot escape in that direction and has to try another.
ea-sports-ufc-submissions-04.jpg
Progression comes into play when after an escape is blocked for a period of time, the attacking fighter will see a Left Stick icon appear over one of the gates. Flicking the Left Stick in that direction will allow the submission to progress to the next stage and force the defending fighter to restart their escape from scratch. Flicking the Left Stick too late or in the wrong direction will make it easier for the defending fighter to escape.

A fighter’s submission rating and stamina during a fight dictate how difficult it will be to escape or lock in the submission.
ea-sports-ufc-submissions-05.jpg
Progress to through all the stages to complete the submission and force the tapout.

They announced it too early. They didn't get into full development until 2011. FFXIII took long because a big chunk of it was developing Crystal Tools alongside it.
Things should be easier this time round but they're developing the Luminous engine alongside it which is why the Agnis Philosophy tech demo came out in 2012.

The game also looks very ambitious so a 2015 release will make my day but I can't see it happening.

FFXIII was released in December in Japan and March everywhere else so that's what I expect for XV as well.

If they go with a 2016 release for NA then they're going to have to give me a FF XII HD Remaster first. I see what you're saying but I'm not trying to wait another year and half for a game that I believe should have already came out

but as eveyone keeps saying, it is Square Enix

It was getting bashed in the previews. Still have hopes for this game. Hopefully they can fix this.
I just was looking for a change. I haven't played a horror game since Dead Space, which I enjoyed. I hear this was headed by the creator of the Resident Evil. I never played any RE other than 5 so I was kind of hyped for this since RE before RE5 gets so much praise.

Will FFXV be at E3 this year? This, Arkham Knight, Phantom Pain, and KHIII are literally the only games (unless some mindblowing new title gets announced at E3) that I'm planning on giving a damn about for the next year or so. Until all four of those are on the shelves, I don't really plan on getting my PS4.

Still mad about XV's jump to the PS4 but I hope that it makes for a better game.

I didnt understsnd the hype behind ff15 until finally started to play a ff game.
Now the gameplay trailers look dope as hell.
The voice acting seems excellent.
The japanese voices anyway.

Damn, you're going to be waiting for a while for all four of those to be out
I expect things to ramp up though and hopefully it'll start with this E3. As Empire pointed out in his post, they're still a few studios who we don't know what they're doing and I'm glad FFXV was ported up.
After seeing the graphics and scale, it had to be done.

$7M Raised, A New Phase of Development Begins

We are proud to share the news today that our studio has entered the next phase of development on our upcoming project and has raised an additional $7 million in funding. We are happy to partner with Capital Today and a team of other investors who share our vision in making meaningful interactive experiences that inspire, connect, and emotionally touch the hearts of players around the world.

With this new investment, our studio is able to scale up development efforts to focus on making the best game possible in the same spirit as flOw, Flower, and Journey. We’ll also begin laying the infrastructure to self-publish, market, and distribute on our own terms for this next project and beyond.

Since finishing Journey, the team has been hard at work to make an emotionally engaging experience centered around human connections for players of all ages and backgrounds. We’re eager to share more information with everyone as we get further into development. Until then, a big thanks to everyone for your patience and ongoing support.

I don't think their next game will be a PS exclusive but it's good to know their game is on it's way. I still want a PS4 Journey port.

I heard good things about Dragon's Crown, hopefully we get that here in NA as well.

I was actually pretty excited about the jump to PS4. If I have to wait then I might as well get it on the PS4
I mean, I was somewhat excited at first, but from what I can tell from the current next-gen games there aren't too many "revolutionary" things going on in game design right now. I just watched a comparison video in which it was shown that GTAIV has better lighting and shadows than WATCH DOGS, for crissakes.

I know that this is Nomura and Square Enix, and it is unlike him to disappoint. But still. Many people bought PS3s (I was not one of those people) just because they wanted to play Versus XIII. I certainly wanted to play it to get the taste of XIII out of my mouth.

Don't get me wrong; I expect two great titles from Nomura, but I'm still a bit salty

The funny thing is that FFXV has little in common with the old FFs from what we can tell. It looks more like a "grown-up" KH than anything. An action game with heavy RPG elements.

Which I thought was refreshing because I thought that the turn-based, separate-screen, ATB style of RPG gaming was getting played out real fast
Damn, you're going to be waiting for a while for all four of those to be out

Don't get me wrong, I feel as if the shift in development was definitely needed as well. The game looks too ******* fantabulous to be on a current-gen console

Damn. I never finished Journey; maybe I should
