The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Battlefield 4 looks unreal. Just learned that Planetside 2 will be free to play on the PS4 with PS+.
nthat.gif

You don't even need PS+ for PlanetSide 2 or any other free-to-play game. They're literally free to play. PS+ will have it's own games up for free.

There's some backlash on Xbox right now for offering free-to-play games that still require XBL Gold to play them online. They're really not free to play if you still need to pay for Live.

You'll need to pay for PS+ on PS4, so its the same situation, no? Or is that one of the features available even without PS+?

Not to mention that they are litterally crap. pun intended

You won't need PS+ for free-to-play games and PlanetSide 2 doesn't look that bad. It's like Battlefield meets Warhawk/Starhawk. Not saying it's as good, but it looks decent to me. I'll probably play it. It's not like you have to pay for it.

How is putting discs in a gaming console with a disc loading drive an example of being a caveman?

You're wasting hd space, which is obviously the drawback of disc free gaming.

I'd rather save my hd space than the HOURS oh sorry seconds that it takes me to open my cd case to insert the disc into my console.

Also your example only applies to people who get their games day one, which I for the most part don't.
just watch, if the ps4 lets people jump from multiplayer to multiplayer across different games (or even single player to single player or single player to multiplayer) without having to go through a bunch of crappy menus like we do today, putting in a disc is going to be a chore

no big deal if you like chores

F2p games can be exempt from PS+. It's up to the devs to decide.

The free-to-play MMOs DC Universe Online and PlanetSide 2 will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription to play when they hit the PS4 later this year, publisher Sony Online Entertainment confirmed with Polygon during E3 last week.

Sony announced during E3 that a PlayStation Plus membership is required for online multiplayer in PS4 games, leading some to question whether free-to-play games would be exempt from the platform's subscription requirements.

"As far as free-to-play games are concerned, it's a publisher's decision whether they put it inside or outside of the PlayStation Plus requirements," Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida said.

Yoshida additionally confirmed that the PS4 versions of Zombie Studios' Blacklight: Retribution and Digital Extremes' Warframe will be free-to-play, and will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription to play.

I've heard nothing but good things about about Planetside 2. DC Universe is still popular as far as I know.

I don't know much about the other games but I'm looking forward to Warframe.

I was talking about xbl's "free" to play games.

I haven't played any free to play pc games.

Was chatting with the staff at a gameshop today... dunno how accurate his info is, but he said that the Asian (non-JPN) release for the PS4 will come in 2014, after  JPN, US and EU... Oh well.

why no universal release date if its not region locked?

pardon my ignorance

^^ you want your console on launch day or close to launch right? A global release would mean low supply for all regions and higher aftermarket prices

Oh Right, my bad.

Yea MS policies and F2P don't get along. That's why Warframe, Tekken Revolution, Ridge Racer Driftopia are console exclusive to PSN.

It wouldn't surprise me if this is true. America is priority since they want to take over MS there and Europe is Sony's strongest territory so they'll want to please the fans over there so if the demand is high in those 2 regions then that's where all the consoles will be going.
Japan really only cares about handhelds and Xbox doesn't sell there so they can take their time over there and that would probably apply to HK and surrounding countries.

Still there's hope.

Sony's PS4 has passed through FCC inspection. A week ago the development kit version passed with flying colors and now Sony has been authorized for commercial release in the United States.

In comparison, the PS3 received FCC approval on September 15th, 2006. It would release on November 11th, marking a two-month difference between the FCC process and the console's debut.

If the same is the case for the PS4, then it's well on its way to releasing in October. If so, it would be in-time to take advantage of the month's big releases such as Battlefield 4 and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. It would be timed perfectly to arrive after the PS3's last big exclusive for the year: Beyond: Two Souls. It would also be early for Call of Duty: Ghosts' November 5th release.

Meanwhile, the Xbox One is still in development and neither its development kit or commercial product have passed an FCC inspection. Microsoft's reversal on its Xbox One policies didn't help, creating additional work for its engineers. Evidence suggests it will release after the PS4, and that could mean that its third-party blockbuster, Call of Duty: Ghosts, could release on PS4 hardware first. If that's the case Sony will have a huge upper hand in the holiday season market.

As part of the inspection some details regarding the system's clock frequency and vitals were revealed, which can be seen below:

Maximum clock frequency in the system: 2.75GHz
Size: 275 x 53 x 305 mm
Weight: 2.8kg

Sony is well on its way to having a timely release for the PS4. Stay tuned for details on its official release date.

If it releases late October here then I can see a December launch happening for Japan and maybe even for Asia as well.

Sony will release PS4 in Japan the same day as NA. It's their home territory...it'd be embarrassing for them if they did not.

It might cause a few people to be annoyed but I don't think it will be embarrassing. Nintendo released the Wii-U in Japan 3 weeks after NA and one week after europe and PAL regions and I didn't hear any Japanese people complain. It had a good launch too.
If it came out next year then yea, that would be embarrasing.

is sony gonna stay with the trophys = real life prize model for the ps4? cause thats a cash cow right there. get dudes copping every game just to accumulate those trophies

but empire said his 290+ gold trophies aren't even enough to compete with these hardcore trophy hunters
