The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

I see. I never played ZOE, so I'd rather Kojima not work on it...

Sony: DualShock 4 light bar can change your mood when gaming in the dark

Everyone is focused so much on the DualShock 4′s light bar being used simply as a built-in Move controller working in tandem with the new camera peripheral for PS4. Scott Rohde, Senior VP Sony World Wide Studios, jumped onto the PlayStation Blog this past week and talked about a new way that games might use the light bar and a dark room to influence the player’s mood while gaming.

Playing games in the dark versus a well lit room depends heavily on the game being played. With Move and Kinect gaming, well lit areas are ideal for the cameras. What playing in the dark does for other games is allow it to immerse the player into the game by blacking out the real world around the tv. Who would have thought that the light bar on the new DualShock 4 could be used to color that dark space in front of the player to influence things like their mood while gaming. Rohde paints this picture pretty well:

A lot of gamers, myself included, like to play in some dimly lit rooms. And when you’re playing a game and the whole area around you changes color slightly based on what that light bar is doing, it’s not something you’re staring at and your expecting, but it changes your mood and it changes the way you feel when, whatever it is, when you fire a button, when you step into an area where you are in a cold blue area – think about Journey. You’re in a cold blue area, and then you move into more of an orangey earth tone – a warm area. And that controller is coming with you.

I help but imagine a character like Nathan Drake traversing an underwater level while the controller is illuminating the space in front of me with a fluctuating blue ambient light effect. Then coming out of the water and engaging in all sorts of explosions and gun play while the light bar flashes and pops all sorts of reds and oranges, effectively surrounding me in the warm light of the in-game explosions.

PS4 Pulse - Controller

Introducing the PS4 Pulse Controller, yet another amazing PS4 prototype design by Industrial/Interaction designerTamar Fleisher. The PS4 PULSE is a new controller for the PS4 console, which combines the full body movement trend (as in Xbox Kinect, Playstation Move etc.) with physical and visual feedback.

The new PS4 PULSE consist of wrist gear which projects visual display on the user's arms and palms. This could be used for countless kinds of new action buttons and visual indicators for a game. This visual display is especially designed to give the player a sense of orientation as he moves freely. The PS4.

PULSE also has a vibration mode so the physical feedback will not be lost.

The PS4 PULSE doesn't only project static visuals - some of the projections are interactive and the user can touch and use the projected image as an actual action button, for example to enter in a access code, to reload a gun by touching the magazine icon or to pull an arrow of a bow.

The PS4 PULSE comes equipped with two interactive touch screens from either side of the projector, that can also be used for action buttons and visual display of game info.

Controller New Features:

1. Physical and visual touch feedback.
2. Forward and rear interactive projections onto arm, palm and fingers.
3. Adjustable wrist grip.
4. Bluetooth enabled.
5. Your entire arm becomes an intricate tool or weapon.
6. Vibration feedback
7. Touchscreen for gameplay and adjustments

Sony will support used games but the next-gen xbox will tighten DRM by not supporting used games.

Why would they go that route?

Assuming the leak is true.

Will be getting this. :pimp: :pimp: :pimp:

On a side note... Even tho this is the ps4 thread I wanted ask you guys about the rumore that the new Xbox won't have disk. Do you think that's a good thing?

While it may be the future, I honestly don't think that it's possible to do it that way right now. Believe it or not, there's still a good amount of people that don't have the internet, so they would be losing customers to go that route.

No problem.

Isn't that how some of the games on the 360 work now?? But you're not installing the full game, right??

Too soon.

I've been keeping up with the Durango (720) info as well, and the fact that all games have to be installed and play from the HDD is rather stupid IMO. It' too soon to make disc based games obsolete, even though the trend is hitting there in other outlets, gaming just aint ready yet for that.
