The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Full Video is up
13 things we’d like you to know about this video:

  1. If you’d like to see a version of the video with significantly higher image quality than shown on YouTube (and a closer representation of how the game looks on PS4), you’ll be able to download the 1080p video online soon.
  2. The time of day is accelerated by x60, which is why the video covers from 6pm – 9pm in Chile in just three laps. Accelerating the speed of time is something you can choose to adjust before you race and it’s also why the sunlight disappears so quickly at 1:58.
  3. Design Director Paul Rustchynksy is the driver. He’s using a Thrustmaster “T80 DRIVECLUB Edition” wheel, which explains why his last lap (in first person racing view) is the fastest.
  4. The video was captured in one take from a version of the game still in development. Optimisations to the visual quality of the game are made every day, so while there are lots of impressive details on show you may also spot some things we’re still working on – like improving the anti-aliasing for certain assets and making sure that nothing pops in to view.
  5. We decided to show this time trial event with on-screen display disabled, because lots of people wanted to see this and it’s something you can choose to configure in the game. We noticed that when we did this, the game still plays the sound effects for Overdrives, so we’re fixing this.
  6. Not only do we model every car in staggering detail inside and out, we go to great lengths with the environments too. Check out the observatory tower at 1:47 and 2:37!
  7. The way that we have captured each car’s distinctive audio is evident here because we’ve disabled the in-game soundtrack music, but we’ve actually just made further improvements to the quality of the audio in the game today (and fixed the backfire so that you can hear it properly on the Audi R8 V10 Plus), so it’s still getting better.
  8. All lights illuminate the environment authentically. The dashboard fully illuminates, so you can see the glow of the buttons in the control panel above the rear-view mirror and you can see the reflections in the windscreen and the driver’s window. Similarly, you’ll notice that the brake light illuminates the car’s active spoiler in the first two laps. Hopefully this will draw your eye away from the glitch with the car’s tyre smoke (which is missing) and excessive anti-aliasing on the Audi’s bevelled rear window frame… which we are of course still developing.
  9. The reflector lights (cats eyes/snake eyes) on the safety barriers surrounding the track reflect light authentically too. You can see this most clearly at 02:30.
  10. Ghost cars (and opponent cars) are all fully realised in the rear-view mirrors, but there’s currently a small glitch that makes them render incorrectly when the sun goes down. This will be improved by launch.
  11. The crowds release balloons throughout the race. The balloons should react authentically to the wind and light up correctly at night – and appear less frequently too – but the game is still in development after all.
  12. There’s a tiny portal to another dimension (aka a glitch in the world) at 0:32. We’ve fixed it in the game already.
  13. The sky is clear of clouds so that you can see the stars twinkling up above. This won’t always be the case; you can choose how clear or cloudy the sky is when you set-up a race and it will be uniquely generated every time. On the occasions when the fog rolls in and you can only see the tips of those mountains in the distance… and the cars in front are casting long shadows towards you as the sun rises or sets on the horizon… and you’re breezing through it all 150mph… it’s utterly sensational!

Good thing I get paid on the PS4 release date, might not be able to get it at the midnight launch though :rolleyes

Kanye took all my PS4 money and will the week of release date. lol.

Those new Deep Down screen shots look nothing like the reveal trailer. I'm not even surprised, just a little disappointed.

The only game that looks impressive so far across both platforms is Infamous: Second Son. Everything else looks painfully average.

I don't care about graphics, performance is the key. You need to have games running at 60 FPS at 1080P or higher with no screen tearing and jaggies. It wasn't acceptable this gen and certainly won't be next gen.

I honestly think Vita TV will be Sony's biggest bomba in history. There's no way you can tell me with a straight face, people will be huddled around their 48 inch HDTV's playing dumbed down portable games while the rest of the world is entering the Next-Gen with the PS4 and Xbone.

well theyre essentially testing it in Japan first. Not that Japan is indicative of the rest of the world, but if it really doesnt catch on there, they may have dodged a bigger bullet

Mobile games are going to bomb. No one wants to play dumbed down versions of 3DS and Vita games.

See how foolish that sounds? Games are games.

Yeah, it sounds dumb because it doesn't make sense. You didn't address anything I said,  you just kind of randomly added in your opinion on the Mobile market. The mobile market doesn't take away sales from the 3DS/Vita market. Completely different audience. The Vita TV will directly take market share away from the PS Vita and hurt it's overall image.

All I was trying to say is that the graphical component of a game is important to some, but to most people they just want to enjoy the experience. You said in your post that graphics don't matter to you, but in the next state that no one wants to play those type of games on a big screen. Saying that Vita TV will fail strictly because no one wants to use a device that doesnt play next-gen titles is a little close-minded. I just used mobile games as a comparison, as most mobile games don't look as good as the games on the other two portables, but outsell them by millions.

Vita TV's other aspects are what I think will make it popular, as I listed in a previous post. The fact you can stream from your PS4, as well as play PSN and PS3 titles are what will look good on your 48 inch tv.

At the end of the day, its your opinion. Im just stating if it does fail, I think itd be for different reasons.

I understand what you're saying but your information is wrong. You can't play PS3 games on the Vita TV. At least that's what was FIRST announced, maybe they changed it now. From the original press release, you can only play PSP, PS Vita and PSN Classics(PS1 a PS2) games. Maybe PS3 games are now considered PSN Classics? IDK.

I actually think it's a cool little device. I like the idea of having a Playstation eco system in that hub. My whole issue with this is the timing. It makes no sense to release this during the start of the Next-Gen. It's suicide.

Oh wait look :
"SCE will release the PS Vita TV in Japan Nov 14, 2013 and in other countries after that," House said during a roundtable discussion as reported by Tech On.

"The reason why it will be launched in Japan earlier than in other countries is that there is no leading company in Japan's video streaming market. The company is planning to sell the PS Vita TV in China, South Korea, etc, but not in the US and European market at this point."
I knew they wouldn't be that stupid.

And now that you've edited your post:

I absolutely disagree that mobile games and 3DS/Vita have different audiences. There is a huge overlap. No, they don't directly compete with one another but I think it's foolish to believe that they are complete different demographics and don't poach disposable income from one another.

And I also disagree that Vita TV takes a large marketshare from Vita. That'd mean majority of people interested in Vita buy this device instead, missing the major benefit of the Vita: portability. Not to mention the streaming aspect of the Vita TV.

Via Andrew House

"The “PS Vita TV” is like a small set-top box (STB) that allows to play various games. It is connected to a TV via an HDMI cable. With the PS Vita TV, it is possible to download not only games developed for the PS Vita but also games developed for the first-generation PlayStation and PSP via the Internet.

In the future, SCE will offer games developed for the PS3 to PS4 and PS3 by using a cloud-based game distribution service. Technically, the PS Vita TV can support such games. Therefore, SCE is considering providing PS3 games to the PS Vita TV by using the service in the future."

I do agree about the timing of Vita TV. And as you posted, we probably dont have to worry about it until 2014.

I think PC will be best for you this gen. There will still be jaggies and games at 30fps.
1080p is a must though but some games may struggle to reach that.

PSvita tv isn't meant to compete with the new consoles and PS3 games will be playable once(baring no problems) gaikai comes to the vita. As for the Vita having dumbed down games, would you call Borderlands 2, Mortal Kombat, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 etc dumbed down ?
It may not have PS4/PS3 power but that doesn't stop it from having great games.

Also, It isn't coming out here in the holidays because the PS4 will overshadow it but in Japan since the PS4 is coming out in February then holiday is a good time to release it.

Vita has a good library. There's an Uncharted game, some good indie titles like Guacamelee, AAA's like Killzone, Tearaway, Ninja Gaiden, MLB The Show, and a bunch of cross buy PS3 games like PS All-Stars and Sly 4. You get the home console type games on a portable device compared to the usual "portable" games. Plus Borderlands 2 is coming out for it. If the remote play for PS4 works like its supposed to, that's huge.

PS Vita TV serves a different purpose to me. It's not a portable device. It's more useful as an ancillary device to people who already are invested in games. Plus you can use it for on demand video services without any pay walls. If you're in the market for a Roku or Apple TV and you game, why not go for the PSV TV?

unacceptable?  how many games did you end up playing this gen?

performance is up to the dev, either deal with it or go post in that buried pc gaming thread
