Sony Santa Monica Hiring for “Critical Project” and “Unannounced Title”


Many have been wondering what Sony Santa Monica has been up to, especially considering that no official game for the PS4 has been announced yet. Looks like the gears are grinding in sunny California, as the company is hiring for a couple position that reveal an upcoming unannounced game (or games) and apparently one of “critical” importance for the studio.

The first position is for a Lead Concept Artist that will “take the reins of the visual development of a critical project from early stage exploration through to final release.” Considering that he’ll be required to follow the title from early stage exploration, it’s safe to assume that we’re talking about a yet unannounced project.

The second position is for a Senior Level Designer for an “unannounced title”. Even here we’re talking about someone required to  handle “Level design from concept to implementation to shippable completion”, so it’s most probable that the project is in its earliest stages of development.

Below you can see a couple screencaps of the two job offerings (since Sony’s Career page doesn’t allow linking, for some reason). Are the two position for the same project or for two separate ones? and what will it (they?) be? We’ll have to wait and see about that, but something is boiling in the cauldron.

Not to derail the thread but which do you guys believe is the better console between the X1 and the PS4? I know it's probably been debated many times before but this thread seems to go much smoother than the X1 thread imo so I felt like asking here.

I'm not a fanboy at all owning both systems but I already bought my ps4 and don't plan on buying a x1 unless M$ does or have something that I just have to play..

With that being said ima say I think ps4 is better

Imma go with PS4 for me only because im never home so the whole play the Vita on the go thing = Game changer for me.

I love the Xbox controllers more though, and am more comfortable with that platform all together. But my reserves say otherwise.

Give me 3 reasons Microsoft will be able to compete with Sony over the entire generation when it comes to games. No body in Microsoft's studio catalog comes close to any of the teams at Naughty Dog or Santa Monica. Nobody.

I Hate Halo. Loved Gears of War so much that I wouldnt trade any PS3 exclusive last gen for ir. It was my fav multiplayer game of all time. IMO any studio at anytime can create something that changes everything. So when dudes start sprouting that best catalog for either system b.s. I cringe.

To be fair, he's specifically talking about Microsoft's studios, so whether or not he remembers Nintendo is irrelevant unless you're drawing a parallel to people thinking Nintendo was untouchable.

I'll be the first to say Nintendo has made more amazing games than any other developer by miles.... but as an adult, I enjoy mature themes in the majority of my games. Which you'll rarely, if ever, see from N.

And the hardware kills most games for me. Wii U is fun, but how are you only going to support 1 Gamepad?

sometimes you people are ridiculous. yea... YOU people. lol but the ps4 is better. im not biased, i just want to get the best product i can for my money. i have a 360 now, and i swear by it. the 360 won THIS generations war. but these next gen consoles are a no-brainer.

the ps4 is cheaper by $100. That means u can get the ps4, and 2 years of online/controller+accesories/game+accessories for the price of just the barebones xb1

the ps4 is stronger and faster statistically speaking. so even if at launch theyre close, ull start seeing the gap FAR sooner than this generation

xb1 disrespected all gamers with those policies they tried to force on us, and the ONLY reason they changed them, is because of ps4 killing them at e3 and the reaction that followed.

ps4 will have the stream service which allows you to go back generations in gaming, AWESOME

tho the xbox 360 controller is damn near perfect, lets call a spade a spade and recognize this new ps4 controller is taking a few elements from it which is a good thing.

ps+ online is giving away good and recent games while xbl is giving away games nobody cared about 3 years ago.

the only thing i can say is in favor of xb1 is... well...im sure halo will be fun.

I get where you're coming from though, probably because I'm just all-around a pretty unbiased guy. Been rocking with Sony and Nintendo since PS1 and N64. Had a PS2 and a GameCube, and I've spent time playing my dad's original XBox. Had a 360, and eventually sold it after I beat Gears of War 3 for a PS3. Almost forgot, but I have a Wii too

I just like good games man, and none of these companies are paying me to rep for them. I'm getting a PS4, and one of the main reasons is that their game catalog from launch through the foreseeable 2014 window appeals to me more than the Xbox One's. I would never assume that Xbox One will be inferior for this entire console generation just based on history and what we have seen so far though.

Neither are out yet but from what we've seen...

PS4 has that low price point

Better hardware which will hopefully carry the system well after a number of years

Remote Play with vita will definitely be huge if it works as shown

PS3 had better exclusives, hopefully they can keep that up

X1 has alot of potential with kinect, and their UI in the way you can have multiple things going on at once in the same screen

Using batteries in the controller is ridiculous to still have

DRM and the whole game sharing will be more accepted in a few years time so it'll probably be back

More expensive
