The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

The PS3 is more powerful than the 360 or am I wrong?

It is technically, however the architecture used was more difficult for developers to use. With both X1 and PS4 having PC architecture it will most likely be easier for developers to not only get the most out of each, but make sure multi-platforms games dont suffer from one to the other as much as they did last-gen. But as TheHealthInspector posted near the top of the page, you may still see some issues from one to the other.

Oh ok

Well I do dominate in COD. I don't see a reason I wouldn't be able to do the same in Battlefield. [emoji]128526[/emoji]

You can play BF the same way you play COD and dominate. Don't let all of that "Oh its real strategy going on" or whatever nonsense it is people say to claim BF>COD.

I play BF the same way, run and gun as a medic healing my own damn self . I have close to a 3.0 KD and great score per minute while playing the objective (only play Rush and Conquest). The only thing bothersome things are the vehicles that you do actually have to work as a team to take out sometimes.

Heh.

On the PS3, sure. That won't fly on 64 player.

This is nothing new but unless there's some big changes to playstations online community/service then the majority of my time will be spent on the Xbox One. I'll probably only use the PS4 just to play their exclusives while every cross platform multiplayer game will be copped for Xbox along w/ any Xbox exclusives that interest me.

Hope a lot of info is dropped at E3.
The power difference this time round is much in favour of the PS4. I don't see any multiplatforms performing better on the XBone at all this time round.

Man, inFamous and Watch Dogs are day one for me :D. They just need to let us pre-order already!~

Is it safe to assume that PSN will have cross game chat and be a little closer to XBL regardless of it's for a fee or still free? Or am I asking too much?

Sony to kick off PlayStation 4 advertising during the Champions League final
playstation-4-uefa.jpg

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has announced that the very first PlayStation 4 TV advertisement will run during the upcoming Champions League final in May. The UEFA Champions League is currently underway and the final will be played at Wembley in London on May 25, 2013.

Recently, Sony and UEFA extended the Champions League sponsor deal to 2015. With the extension, Sony announced that they will only advertise the PlayStation brand during Champions League.

Sony has a history of promoting the PlayStation brand during the Champions League, dating back to the late 1990s with the PS1. Sony even advertised the February 20 PlayStation 4 unveiling during a Champions League match a few days prior.

It’s unknown if the TV ads will be simple “Sponsored by PlayStation 4″ bits, or whether Sony has a full blown 30-second or 60-second PlayStation 4 TV spot to showcase the new console.

The Champions League final is one of the most watched TV events in Europe every year, and it’s a perfect opportunity for Sony to start raising awareness about the PlayStation 4 to the casual gamer.

Sony’s deal as the official sponsor with UEFA is worth $40 million. The PlayStation 4 is expected to launch this Fall across the globe, with a reported $100 milling advertising budget in the US alone.

Ill post the ad as soon as it hits YT.

I've mentioned that the development controller could do other things with it's interface outside of what you'd expect. I'd be Interested to see if that interface on a broad system wide level was implemented (honestly I don't know). Also interested if they will talk about the biometrics feature or if that still is unready. I've always been told that it would be coming down the line later.

Cool. Yea. please do.

Quick question, has anyone put any cash aside for either the PS4 or XBO?

I already did put some to the side last month.

The PS4 Has Massive Momentum, But Faces Problems Of Its Own

Following the announcement of the Xbox One the results have been clear: many people aren’t happy about what Microsoft is doing with the Xbox brand. Reading comments and feedback online would lead you to believe that the Xbox One has no chance of competing next-gen. Meanwhile, gamers have been quick to wrap their arms around the yet-to-be-released or even seen PS4, which Sony touts as gamer-focused hardware. While there is good reason for these trends, this is only the beginning of a long feud and there are several challenges the PS4 faces that make it anything but the perfect machine you may be led to believe.

Your wallet won't like the PS4

There’s no getting around it, the PS4 is going to be expensive, and certainly the most expensive of the three next-gen consoles. Similar hardware from a PC costs upward of $600 in today’s market, and that’s not including a controller or an operating system. Everyone remembers the famous announcement of the PS3’s $599 U.S. Dollars price tag, and the PS4 won't be much different with $499 being highly likely.  Remember, this is a machine that is rumored as being 50% more powerful than the Xbox 720. You get what you pay for, but boy are you going to pay dearly.

Gimmicks: a gift and a curse

The Kinect is by no means a revolutionary device for hardcore games, but at the very least it gives developers room to experiment. Similarly, the Wii U’s large touchpad is something that raises the creative ceiling. These might not often translate into better experiences for AAA games, but they do substantiate new hardware from that of the past. The PS4 is a straight-shooting gaming machine without the fluff. It will have to be marketed as a machine that makes up for the difference with power. With diminishing returns have a profound impact on how much that really means, Sony is going to have to put together some killer marketing campaigns to combat the more easily conveyable perks of competing hardware.

Sony is hiding a dark secret

Unsurprisingly, Microsoft has come under hostile fire for adopting an anti-used game policy for the Xbox One. Rumors of such policies spreading from software to hardware have been circulating for years now, and PC gamers have been experiencing its nuances first-hand. Although gamers have been vocal it hasn’t been enough to deter the inevitable. But truthfully, it isn’t Microsoft that should be getting the flak, it’s the publishers. They’ve been paying close attention to piracy and lost revenue for the past two generations and are sick of it; they’re demanding a solution.

Microsoft has something in place to appease publishers, and I can’t imagine a scenario where Sony can get away with not doing the same.

Backward Compatibility is dead

Upset that you can’t play your Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One? Well, you can’t play PS3 games on your PS4, either. This is a direct result of hardware manufacturers trying to bring down the bottom line as far as possible. There’s no room for BC these days unless you’re Nintendo, it seems.

Sony isn’t the first-party juggernaut you remember

PlayStation has been known for carrying a long history of diverse exclusives, but that advantage has withered the past few years. Insomniac Games (Ratchet & Clank) is seeking the riches of multiplatform as are Konami’s Metal Gear and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy. Meanwhile, Zipper Interactive fell mightily after years of great SOCOM releases and Team Ico is struggling to get The Last Guardian on store shelves before it’s irrelevant. Today, Sony relies on an elite few to attract gamers, talented studios such as Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, and Guerilla Games. There’s still a great line-up, but it's nothing like the PS2 days.

The clash of the titan-ic sized hardware

The Xbox One’s aesthetics have received mixed reviews, but there’s one thing everyone can agree on: it’s massive—that’s what she said. We haven’t seen the PS4 yet, but chances are it’ll be just as hefty. PC gamers, including myself, have seen this coming for a few years now. Last generation there were issues with hardware failure due to a lack of adequate cooling for long gaming sessions. Neither Sony or Microsoft are making that mistake again. This time it’s going to be about massive boxes that are nothing more than PC cases turned horizontally.

I anticipated a $500 price tag since the press conference. Take my money Sony.

Do we know the actual price range of games? I see the $99 preorder tag on a few games on Amazon.

$99 is a place holder price I'd imagine. $69-$79 is what they'd probably retail at, but hopefully we start to see digital copies have some sort of discount.

dude if games are $70-80 that'll be insane.  how much were ps2 games? ps3 games new are $65 total

i hope they're not gonna **** us for dlc too if were paying $70-80+

Man, if they expecting people to go digital, they need to have better deals/sales then the crap they having now....that one of the reason Steam so sucessful

Word, anything about $65 is OD. I absolutely HATED seeing new ads in games while I was playing. I remember playing Madden one year and I could've sworn there was a I AM LEGEND or Eagle Eye movie ad on a billboard in the stadiums. I can't find a screenshot. Why should be pay top dollars if you're going to be selling ads in the game.

SCEA Trademarks “The Best Place to Play” and “Push the Boundaries of Play” as PS4 Advertising Slogans

URL]

While pre-E3 events and big game announcements at E3 will help core gamers decide on which platform to get next gen, advertising will play a major factor in the success of the PS4 and Xbox One among the average consumer.

One big advertising rumor for Sony is “Greatness Awaits“, which we may see used in ads closer to launch, but now PSLS has uncovered two more trademark listings. The first is: “The Best Place to Play”, which seems like a pretty self-explanatory slogan – The PS4 is the best place to play games. The second is “Push the Boundaries of Play”, which Sony already used a variant on when they were upstaging the Xbox One reveal.

What’s most promising about both of these advertising slogans is that they are about videogames. With the Xbox One event moving away from games and focusing on TV shows, there has been a growing concern that the PS4 may end up following suit.

With costs becoming higher to produce games for the next get systems I wouldn't be surprised if the retail price for games to be in the $65-$70 range.
