The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Its down half the year...

I basically play by myself on PS it's not about being cheap I'm not playing with friends like I do on Xbox. I've seen sales on it so I rather save some coins if I can. You talking like gaming is a cheap hobby, almost every game has a DLC now. All of this adds up, I know its def more for a PS person to move to plus being it's basically been free for yall for years.
Half the year is hyperbole. PSN has like 97% up time (not counting scheduled maintenance). No, it's not perfect and it could be better, but to be honest: the outages are rare.

And, yes, gaming is a cheap hobby. Second Son is $20 on Amazon right now. That's like 14 hours of entertainment for $20.

Dragon Age was $40 on flash sale...That's 100 hours of content for $40 bucks.

Go watch a movie and you pay $12-15 for 2 hours.

Gaming is easily one of the cheapest hobbies available.
What guarantee any of those games are enjoyable, if it was cheap cats wouldn't ask daily if a game is worth buying.

A few of us having multiple platforms so we can't give that time worth to the costs of games.

Not here to back and forth but don't tell cats they cheap enjoy your PS+ for $50, ill wait for a deal which makes more sense for my level of playing, saving some dollars is smart not cheap.

Eh, Still standing by what I said...but you can feel however you want to feel.

97 cents a week is UNEQUIVOCALLY cheap and a great value for the services rendered....even on the tightest of budgets.

PS+ isn't even needed in order to play online for some games. There are a few pple on my friend's list without PS+ but they're still able to play GTA and 2K online...

Forgive me for trying to save a few dollars

Why would I just willingly spend $50 when I know 9/10 the item I want will be cheaper at some point in time? PS+ is no doubt worth $50 (mostly because of the instant game collection) a year but if I can get it cheaper, that's what I'm going for.

No doubt. I respect that. Why pay retail, when you can get it discounted.

At least you acknowledge that the service is actually worth the $50 though.  That's all I was saying.

I feel like Sony could just go ahead and not require PS+ to play online for PS4 like they have been for PS3.  They've already increased their install base to i believe the number was ~11m PS+ subscribers.  Leave the cloud upload, instant game collection, PS+ deals/sales, etc subscription based, but leave the online multiplayer free.  Thats an amazing selling point, and those with current PS+ may or may not keep their subs, but several will, as stated earlier, the instant game collection is more than worth it, but you get cloud storage AND multiple deals a year too

I agree. There's no reason to pay to play online. Maybe they'll do this when the PS3's online services eventually shut down.

You actually think they are going to give us something that they're comp is making people pay for. Not saying that I don't hope they do this...but I doubt it.

If they don't stop these "outages", it's possible they could see a decline.

I honestly don't mind paying for PS+. It's one of those things where once I pay for it, I don't care about that money anymore, it's gone. The games that I've gotten on PS3 over the last year and a half have been great. The cloud is good too. I don't think it's necessary to play online though.

Hopefully Sony can put together a package for all their services; PS Now, Vue, PS+, Unlimited etc. that way you don't have to pay for each seperate service. It would be nice to get all that stuff in various bundles imo.

Ps+ is not going back to free, between them making money off something they weren't before and sony's phone and tv markets both recording losses it ain't happening.

I think I posted this numerous times in this thread and maybe people can understand this. In a recent investor meeting when they discussed their financial statements and the road forward, they mentioned that the playstation is going to be one of their primary profit centers. So yes you are correct, it's not happening any time soon. Xbox has been doing it for years, and yes their online service is great. Sony is improving it slowly. Maybe the Xbox converts complain, but it has come a long way from the PS2 days.

Sony is not a software company, Microsoft is. You have to expect better software from than. It's like asking yourself if Google is a horrible search engine, you just expect them to put out a great product in their expertise.

:x x :smh:

I for one, new to Sony/PS4 am only interested in PS+ (pretty sure I am not the only one) but a bundled service doesn't benefit me

Requiring online multiplayer is what made the subscription jump. Destiny also played it's part
It was 7.8 million subs at the end of September and now it's 10.9 million after the holidays.

10.9 million x $50 = over half a billion dollars a year.

Sony is not going to leave money on the table.

Obviously they would still kept the traditional 1 month, 3 month and 1 year subs. It woudn't hurt to bundle some of those services together instead of making people pay for each one individually. I'm sure there are people who would like to or already have multiple services. Vue and possibly PS Now are services I'l like to have in addition to PS+.

I could be be wrong but I think I remember reading something around the time the first announced the ps4 that expained why they were charging for online. It had something to with the ps4 being $400. they were actually losing money on making the system so by charging for online they could make back that money and still keep the system cheaper than the xbox one

Why do people keep mentioning it's hard for them to pay $50 or even $40 for PSN+ since they paid $30 last year? Correct me if I am wrong.. But with the release of PS4/X1 didn't these subscriptions increase $10? So $30 back then is in fact equivalent to $40 now, (which has happened during the holidays)

People are straight cheap *****. $50 a year boils down to like less than a dollar per week to play video games online, get free games and discounts on some really quality games, and have cloud storage for your saves.

How is that not great value?

 It's not about being cheap, I'm just not interested paying to play online when I already pay a cable provider for online service that's dumb and greedy to me.

HELP!
Finally switched consoles and have been really disappointed. Finally got my PSN made but almost every twenty minutes I'm kicked off online and receive error error nw-31294-9. I've Googled and haven't been able to come up with anything. Anyone ever have this is it a router problem?

Metro redux is the favorite game I've played in a while 2033 is better thato last light tho

Sounds like the issue I had with my son's PS4. You may have installed the game and it was corrupted. He would play Skylanders and every time he would press start to play, he would be signed out. I had uninstall and reinstall the game and it worked fine afterward.

I think it's be like cable comps. Where you pay for phone/internet/tv, but you don't need the phone service.

The same thing could happen with your bundling idea. I need ps+, ps now, but I don't need vue.

Some other company could already has that covered for me.

yall should change the title to

"It's not about being cheap, I'm just not interested paying to play online when I already pay a cable provider for online service"

What, are we a hive mind that you speak to us as a collective?

You live in Ohio. I know there are much bigger problems in your life.

Most preposterous line of reasoning ever. You pay a cable provider for access to the internet. Doesn't mean everything on the internet is included.

By your rationale, HBO Go, Netflix, Hulu should all also be free, because **** it...you've already paid for cable, right?

Running servers cost money. Your cable provider gives you connectivity, not an all access pass to services from privately held companies.
