Sony set to reveal PS4 virtual reality headset at GDC 2014[/SIZE=5]
Take that, Titanfall

Rumours of Sony's PS4virtual reality headset have been running rife since last year, but now an inside source has told TechRadar that they've spent some time with the helmet behind closed doors - and it's almost ready to be revealed.

Our confidential tipster said that they were impressed with the quality of Sony's Oculus Rift competitor. "The quality and resolution are really, really good," they said. "People will definitely be impressed with what Sony's built".

They also told us that they understand Sony plans to announce the headset at GDC 2014, which kicks off in San Francisco on March 17.

Virtually just around the corner

With rumours that Sony might show off some VR games at E3, it makes sense for it to unveil the headset beforehand and keep Las Vegas focused on the software.

Talk of Sony's headset surfaced last year with word that we'd see it unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show, something that never materialised.

Our source told us that "Sony has deliberately taken its time to tweak and polish the headset before revealing it", rather than taking Oculus's approach of releasing the Rift to developers in stages.

Oculus Rift recently told TechRadar that it saw the PS4 and Xbox One as too limited for its headset, so it's good timing for Sony to swoop in and give console gamers a dose of virtual reality.

We approached Sony regarding this story, but it refused to comment.

^^^Don't know anything about it but the stuff they had with biometric feedback during PS4 development was amazing.

Imagine playing a racing simulator with a VR headset, you can see all around your dash, your blind spots, mirrors, etc.

Now I can only imagine if the VR headset had a camera to detect your arms while playing with a wheel. So what'd you see on your screen is what your hands are doing. :wow: like you hold your steering wheel at 10 and 2? That's what you'd see. One handed with one hand shifting gears? That'd be so :pimp:

It sounds cool.. But when you're at around lap 3 and your arms getting tired staying in the air.. Then you'll realize hmm maybe not as good an idea as I thought lul

I never played Shenmue nor had I really knew anything about it. So I went and did some research, game sounds like it was way ahead of its time. I always said I was gonna pick up a Dreamcast (I never had one when I was younger) and check out some of the titles for it, defintely wouldnt mind trying Shenmue.

Maybe its just me, that VR headset just doesnt appeal to me. Im a simple gamer! I like being lazy sitting in my chair, with a controller in hand and playing the game. I dont need motion controls, no special glasses, nothing that requires me to "move" my body, just a controller that responds to me pressing the buttons.

maybe Sony didn't include the camera with the PS4 along with a higher price tag... because they were going to release the VR headset and state that the only way to use it is if you have the PS4 cam. Which will make everyone who are going nuts over the VR headset, cop the cam, and kill two $$ birds with one stone. Well played Sony, well played.

Man Im still trying to find a damn PS4 camera just to broadcast. They were all over my city and I kept passing on them. At the time I didnt want one, then I wanted to stream Outlast and couldnt find them anywhere

I dont see the point in VR now if this was for pr0n :wow:

on another note i think ill cop my preorder for infamous this weekend...im starting to get tired of just 2k and cod :smh:

i really need to find the time to beat infamous 1 & 2, i want to cop second son but will not play it until i beat the first 2

If the VR headset works in addition to the DS4 instead of replacing it then :smokin If not I probably won't get too excited for it.

Just beat Infamous 2, great game. One of the few games I made sure to finish and collect all the side stuff. My body is ready for Second Son.

The VR headset though I'm not too sure, the price on that is probably gonna be ridiculous.

Driveclub has been rumored with VR so we may see that.

Well, the prototype VR headset apparently has light balls on it like that on the PS move for the camera to detect you and the DS4 has a light on it so it won't surprise me if the camera uses both for tracking. You will still need a pad or PS move to move around and press buttons.

The guys who made Datura made something similar using the HMZ

So I'm playing the Last of US............. The whole level starts to turn white, I tried to restart the PS3 which made it freeze and now it won't recognize any disc I put in.............

Now I could get behind this. Like Carver said, it would be tiring/annoying if it was actual VR interaction. But if the headset is used just as a screen that would be awesome.
