The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

I can't even take IGN's lists serious unless it's Nintendo and that's because everybody knows their first party games should be at the top of the list.

Ni No Kuni should be top 5.

Im not too worried about MGS V being held back.  I mean they made one of the best playing games on PS3 within the first 2 years of its console life which was new and apparently difficult to develop for.  Guns of the Patriots still holds up in looks and gameplay.  I can't wait to see what they can do with PS4 hardware and capabilities.  Its not even about pushing the console to its limits, its about changing the game, which every MGS has done.

I have a sweet spot for Ni No Kuni as it pretty much saved the PS3 from going its whole life without a great JRPG....but its not better than any of the top 5 or Fallout 3.

RPG's are niche IMO, especially with today's pool of gamers. It's easier to find someone who plays COD compared to FF.

This isn't a fact but I know a wide range of gamers and mostly anyone I know or met in recent years plays Sports, shooters or fighting games.

Haven't played and finished a rpg since kingdom hearts 1 if that's even considered one. I just can't get into them 40+ hours rpg games at all.

Not a fan of Fallout 3, I don't see the hype in western RPGs. *shrugs* BioShock was decent, not better than Ni No Kuni imo.

Since when did niche games start getting month-long exclusive coverage on the biggest gaming website and prime-time television ads?

That's a new development.

Also, just never was able to commit to RPG's like I use too, PS 1 was the last time I really finished them. I just started playing them again because of my DS.

It's an exclusive what do you expect, Destiny ads got they monies worth. The Order had Ads also...we saw what happened there.

Which gaming website are you referring too?

I figured that is who you were talking about, they aren't reputable, any game can get month long coverage as long as you cut a check.

They promoted Halo for like 2 months and never mentioned the game was broken once. Let's wait until the game is out and judge for ourselves cuz IGN is like a crooked pastor.

uc4 release date placeholder release date 3/31...2016.

Dragon Age won Game of The Year last year.

Skyrim sold over 20 million

FFXIV is Square Enix's bread and butter right now and they just passed 4 million registered users

People went nuts at PSX when they thought FFVII was being remade.

RPG's definitely aren't as popular as shooters or sports games but the genre itself isn't niche. Certain games like Disgea, Tales, Persona, have a niche following but there are the big hitters out there like Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Fallout etc.

I've given up on P4. That game is too boring for me. I've tried twice now.

P5 is an easy pass for me.

I haven't beat it either.

I can't remember the game mechanics but no way I'm i restarting the game and going through the first 2 hours of no gameplay again

This.

I know JRPGs have a tendency to start slow sometimes but those first couple hours of P4 was just unbearable for me.

All these delays...

Here's to hoping there is a LOT of re-playability in that FFXV demo.

I played the retail build the other day and I would say your avg player playing it and replaying it will get about 4 hours out of it.

If you skip the tutorial (which I don't recommend) and just do the the main quests to get your car going it's going to take about an hour and 20 minutes. I did a speed run myself after being it a few times and really getting a feel for the battle system and cleared the main scenario without side quests in about 40 minutes knowing exactly what to do.

There's a lot to explore. The stuff that hasn't been talked about that you get to use near the end of the demo should really put a smile on FF fans' faces.

A few things I know people are going to be critical about:

-Framerate drops pretty hard in some places

-No Chocobo riding in the demo. Chocobos will actually attack and kill you if you try to approach them

-Jumping is super awkward. I don't know how else I can explain it, it just feels very weighted, sluggish, and strange

-Magic attacks are out for the demo, just because they took it out of the demo does not mean it's not in the game

-You can't pull the camera back to get a better view of things

-You can't swim, Noctis will just stop when you try to go into a large body of water

-There's no buff timers so your buffs that you get after camping just kinda drop off randomly during the next day

-Everything burns MP, so the very cool teleport ability can only be used a handful of times

-Once you burn through MP Noctis gets "burned out" and your MP needs to be refilled. You can do this by standing there but it seems to fill faster by taking cover behind rocks  or moving to a elevated location like a tree

-For some reason they made it so if you rest at camp you have to abandon all sidequests when you do a full rest. Not sure what the decision behind that was.

-Graphics - If the Order is a 10/10 the demo is 7/10 . I have a feeling people are going to be expecting more from the demo but rest assured it will look better on release

I'll be really interested to see how people react to the "win button" mechanic of holding square and the attacks just automatically come out and string together based on what you have equipped. Action is not as fast or smooth as games like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta. It actually used to be much slower but it has been sped up in the retail build. One change I really appreciated is that you are able to use Japanese or English audio, it will ask you to choose before you even start.

I think people are going to get a lot of enjoyment out of the demo and especially the scenario/things you're able to do near the end. There's plenty of stuff to go explore and try out. Remember, if there's stuff you don't like please be vocal about it on here, GAF, Reddit, Kotaku, wherever. The team is listening to feedback.

A couple people on GAF already got copies of Type-0. I hope SE comes thru with the release date delivery. I might have to go cop it from Best Buy and return it and just take that $4-$8 loss

So if they name Bloodborne GOTY Sony cut a check.

But if they don't, someone else cut a check but Bloodborne was really GOTY.
