Bravely Default was developed by Silicon Studio.

The World Ends with You was co-developed by Jupiter.

Final Fantasy XIV is an okay game.

Final Fantasy XIII is a terrible game that become progressively worse with each sequel.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope is developed by Tri-Ace.
I think Bravely Default was both Silicon and SE. So Bravely Default and TWEWY don't count because they were co-developed?

Final Fantasy XIV is good and profitable.

Final Fantasy wasn't great but was far from terrible.

You're right about SO, I actually knew that but forgot...

Either way the point is they still make good and profitable games.

Making a good game and making profit are two different things.

Obviously Sakaguchi left but please tell me who "all the talent" were that left because all the talent didn't leave years ago. All the talent got stuck on FF XI. Which has been their only constant yearly cash cow. There's a ton of talent on XIV which has been a steady cash cow since 2.0 launched. Tabata's team is laced with really great innovators and Nomura is well... Nomura. There's also a lot of other things in the works and talent on board that the public isn't privy to in terms of new IP development. To say that they're in dire straits financially is straight up libel.

Key talent that left.

Nobuo Uematsu; one of the greatest producers in gaming history that's responsible for all of the most memorable soundtracks.

- Still has an open working relationship and works freelance for SE

Yo****aka Amano; shouldn't have to explain who he is. One of the most revered contemporary Japanese artists.

- Left in 1994 as main character designer. Still has an open working relationship and works freelance for SE

Hironobu Sakaguchi

- Already mentioned.

Yoshihisa Hashimoto; Chief Technology Officer and technical director of the stunning Luminous Engine

- The stunning Luminous engine that produced 0 games? XV isn't running on Luminous and the engine has been scrapped.

Kentaro Yasui, main programmer on Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2.

- Yasui wasn't the main programmer on 7 he was an effects programmer. He wasn't the main programmer on 8 either. That's Narita who's still with the company. He was main programmer for Nomura's team but after the Versus debacle he moved on.

Tetsuya Takahasi; worked on Chrono Trigger,Final Fantasy V and VI. Left and co-founded Monolith Soft.

- A great art and battle and map guy. You should have mentioned he directed ******* Xenogears. Yes it's a bummer he's gone.

Ryuji Ikeda, Shouta Shimoda and Takeshi Arakawa; duties included main programmers, director of planning, texture director, supervising director, and graphic directors across key titles.

- I wouldn't call these guys "glue guys". They were all a big part of the Dissida team which got dissolved. Ikeda was a tools programmer for KH focusing on character animations. He was a contractor who came in to assist on KH 2 and was part time working on other non SE projects. Shimoda may have worked on FF 12 as a cutscene planner but to put that in perspective there were 9 total cutscene planners on 12. Arakawa was an art guy at heart he got his direction chance on Dissidia and found that it wasn't for him. He was the texture director for KH 1 but felt he would be better served in UI after that. In terms of relating him but to being a big talent in the golden years, his works in the late 90's through early 2000's were as a texture artist. Again, to put this in perspective there were more than 10 texture artists working on on FF 8,9, and 10.

So I'll obviously give you Takahasi. But everyone else... not so much. I'm not discrediting the work they did for the company but these aren't the all-stars you're looking for and the others still have a working relationship with SE.

There's still boatload of talent left over from the "golden days" of the PS1-PS2 era. Like I said, a lot of them got stuck on FF XI or other projects not related to the main FF series. And again there's no claim to be made that SE is in any type of financial trouble today.

Final Fantasy XIII

All good SE games

Can confirm that's gameplay in the Dissidia trailer. Squenix has been sitting on this title for a while now. Only releasing on arcades to try to generate some revenue; lord knows they need it. I hope they fold in the next couple of years and sell their IP's to competent developers.

I laughed.

Just Nobuo, Amano, and Sakaguchi leaving shows a huge decline in quality and overall direction. The other guys are nothing to scoff at either. Sure, Amano and Nobuo work free lance but it isn't the same as them being responsible for the direction of a project, which is sorely lacking in Squre Enix titles. They've been producing nothing but mediocre and slightly above average games for the last 10 years. They haven't had a title that was both critically acclaimed and a big seller for a long time. They've lost touch with their audience, and with Nomura being the main artist there and having directorial duties on their big games, it doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon.

As for the financial trouble, there's plenty of articles all over the internet about them losing tons of money the past few years. It's the reason why they turned their focus towards mobile gaming instead of focusing on AAA titles. If they weren't publishing games and solely relied on their own internally developed titles, they wouldn't be around anymore. However, they're finally turning it around this year, with FFXIV and their published titles doing better than expected.

I still, to this day, can't believe Final Fantasy XIII and its sequels are main title Final Fantasy games. Those games are atrocious.

Don't get me wrong: I love Square Soft of old and have still have physical copies (the classics still sealed in plastic), of nearly all of their games before they turned into bad developers. Old Squaresoft was legendary and probably one of my favorite developers. I rather them just hang it up and stop tarnishing their legacy by driving their franchises into the ground.

Never got into final fantasy. Watched my boy play on the ps1 and it didn't seem like a game I'd like.

So I don't know if you read any of what I wrote but let me address your points again...

Nobuo could still come in and do an entire soundtrack if he wanted. It's SE's fault that he wanted to create his own brand and branch out? The guy didn't want to sit around and write music just for FF for the rest of his life. And You do realize that most composers in the industry today are freelance right? Touching on Amano again, he left as lead character designer in 1994 and went freelance after that. He still has had early creative input on the Final Fantasy series designs. Sakaguchi was a HUGE loss and i'm not going to understate or debate that but if you want to put it on one man, what amazing critically acclaimed best selling RPG has The Gooch come out with since he formed Mistwalker?

No doubt the FF series has suffered in the PS3 generation. There's no denying that. I've been the biggest proponent that Toriyama is a complete hack and should be fired ASAP because he tarnished the franchise and the company. However, because of how the development cycle works it takes years to turn these things around and for the public to see changes. You will see that with Tabata's team starting soon with Type-0 and FF XV. Type-0 will sell well and get 8-8.8 review scores. It's a great game, a PSP game but a great game nonetheless. XV will drop and hopefully sell systems and do big numbers. Nomura will drop KH 3 in 2017 and people will eat it up like candy.

Was SE ever on the verge of selling off their IP's and going under in the past 10 years? NO. Did they have financial losses in the past 5 years. Yep. But what major company doesn't take losses and fall on hard times? That's just economics. The ship isn't sinking, it's pushing forward and it's going to get better. But this talk about talent being gone and financial doom is just a bunch of BS.

@offwhitewhite  Atrocious? I can't agree with you on that. They are nowhere near being bad. Average or underwhelming? Absolutely.

Rather than spew out my obviously biased opinion on the series, all I will say is I think we all look at the past with rose-colored glasses.

I'll also add, if you are worried SE has run Final Fantasy into the ground, play XIV.

MMO aspects aside for a minute, just play the game through with as little interaction as possible (it is possible, minus a few dungeons) until you hit level 50. I'm convinced if they released that as a standalone, offline game, it'd have been lauded as the best since IX.

Speaking on Nobou, wasn't he originally going to do the entire OST for FF XII but was later asked to do FF XIV instead?

I'll tell you man, FF XIV 1.0 May have disappointed but that OST was :smokin I wish he would've done A Realm Reborn too.

How could this talk about talent being gone be BS when it's a fact that talent is gone and you acknowledged it? You added some nice insight, some common knowledge and some nuggets, and I appreciate it that, but you're not denying that Squenix hasn't been producing high quality titles like they used to and are a shell of their former self, which is my point. If Final Fantasy XV somehow manages to be a good game, I'll be thrilled, but I think the damage FFXIII has done to FF brand might have been too big of a blow for it to overcome, sales wise. Type-0 is an alright game (never was a fan of it tbh), which is only going to move units because of the FF XV demo that's packaged with it. Kingdom Hearts is going to be interesting; KH 1 and 2 sold a decent amount on the PS2, but all these excessive, un-necessary games they released in between caused fatigue. The HD versions didn't sell nowhere as much as the PS2 titles. Maybe, the time off will be good, or maybe it remained dormant too long. Time will tell.

Same.

If this opening peaks your interest check out random 30min gameplay of the game.

I've never finished a FF game, but I'm several hours into FF13.

Most recent FF games are like 40-50 hours. You'll have to dedicate a lot of time to get the most out of it.

There's 3 FF demos on the 360/ps3(I think), which I believe are still available.

FF Lightning Returns as the best combat system, from what I played in the demo IMO.

FF music that I've heard so far is excellent!

Na did nothing for me at all. Just not into those RPGs I guess. And the music is some jrpg geek stuff, not for me.
